This book was the best book ever.
I think that about 8 years old and up ahould read this book because it has some funny parts in it.My favorite part of the book is where Gus and his friends are making an omlete and insted of putting onions in it they put cockroaches.

It was Great
IT is about this boy gus who gets in trouble by selling bendy pencils also in HOME-ec they put Roaches in the omlette. Also Gus gets a DOG and he named it figgy.

Gus gets a dog.
I think the Greatest Idea Ever was very good because you will like the part when he gets in trouble at school because he sells stuff at school to buy stuff for is dog. They will tell you at the end of the book about what the greatest idea ever is. I think is for 3rd-5th grade.By: Deann

The Heart of Parenting: How to Raise an Emotionally Intelligent Child

One of hte best parenting books!
You can find a lot of books about parenting, but many of them are just pop psychology, the solitary opinion of the author.
Gottman is definitely not one of them. He is known as one of the leading psychologists in the area of family and marriage psychology. This book presents the essence of his research findings about raising emotionally intelligent children.
His advise is surprisingly easy and is based on a 5 step model:
1. Be aware of your child's emotion
2. See your child's emotions as an opportunity to be close together
3. Actively listen to your child and validate the feelings
4. Help your child to verbalize his feelings
5. Help your child solve problems, while setting clear limits

Gottman clearly explains how you can implement this 5-step-model in daily life and what to do when problems arise. His real life examples make reading really fun.
All in all, an excellent parenting book! As a supplement, I can also recommend the book by M. Seligman: "The optimistic child"

A fantastic audio book every parent should have!
This audio book has opened my eyes to what children are really thinking and how to deal with them. I have tried the recommended ideas with my own daughter and it has worked wonders. It can be difficult at first, but with patience, these ideas will create a bond between you and your child that you may not have known could exist.

Marvellous!
"Emotional Intelligence" has recently been recognized as an important life skill. A combination of important traits (including self-discipline, ability to handle anger appropriately, self-esteem, empathy, and social skills), emotional intelligence allows one to handle life's frustrations and to "work and play well with others." These skills have been shown as more important than I.Q. as predictors of success in one's personal relationships and career. This wonderful book teaches parents how to raise their children to have emotional intelligence. The book sees children's problems and frustrations as opportunities for "emotion coaching" - helping them learn how to deal with their emotions. The book also identifies four "parenting styles" - two of these styles react negatively to chldren's negative emotions, one style accepts them but doesn't help the child deal with them, and the "Emotion Coaching" style accepts the emotions and teaches the child what to do with them. I wish my parents had had this book - I was a "difficult" child, prone to tantrums, etc., but much of my difficulty came from feeling frustrated and not knowing what to do about it. My parents were loving, but didn't really know how to handle the problem. This book will create greater understanding between parent and child, and will help the child grow up to be an emotionally healthy adult.

I'm Still Me
I found this book to be very helpful in understanding why we make some of the decisions we do in our lifes. I have passed this book on to many people, especially those who are married to women who went through a divorce. It opens up lines of communication. It's nice to know we are not alone and there are others that have gone through difficult times and with God's help have come full circle.

A "must read" for anyone facing fear, loss and pain.
If this were just a book about victory over cancer, it would be a good book. However, it is much more than that-it is a book also about failed relationships, abandonment, and loss. Ms. Harper's healing from cancer is faith-inspiring, and she gives full credit to her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Through this illness, and the many other crises in her life, she attests time and time again to the faithfulness of her Lord. Her incredible courage through life's journeys is truly an inspiration to all of us....no matter what battle we are facing. She has the refreshing honesty it takes to write such a book, holding back none of the embarrassing details. How many of us would be willing to be so honest? This could not have been easy for her, but she was determined to write a book using her own triumphs...and failures...that would help others. Through these pages, she has given the world a great testimony to the truth of Jesus and of His unfailing love when we will but trust. She writes about herself, but she always points you to Jesus.

Definately worth the read!
Joan Harper holds nothing back as she shares her life's journey of heartache, sickness and ultimately triumph. This story offers hope, not only to those who might be struggling with breast cancer, but to those who are looking for something to hope for.

"A NEW TWIST TO A TEDDY BEAR BOOK"
It was so refreshing to read a "different" kind of bear book. I loved the essence the author deplicted between teddy bears and their keepers!! The stories within this book were so heartwarming that I found myself reading them again and that is something I rarely do with a book. I loved the fact that these were true stories and I thought the author's way of telling a story was like sitting on the front porch and listening to my grandparents tales. The pictures were outstanding and the vintage photos took me back to a time I never lived. I think this book is for everyone, not just a teddy bear lover. When a book can put a tear in your eye and also make u chuckle out loud, I feel it has accomplished the ultimate. A MUST read for the year and I think it will make a grrreat gift for all of my friends. I hope there will be a sequel!!!!

READ THIS BOOK -- You won't be able to put it down!
Do you just need to feel good? Want to believe that the world can be a better place? Then I highly recommend In Search of Teddy. It is beautifully written with some of the most heartfelt stories that I have ever read. Don't let the teddy bear cover fool you. This book is about the human condition and the beauty of living life and simple things. I am reading it a second time -- something that I rarely ever do. I have, also, purchased several copies for friends. I am a avid reader and this is my favorite book this year. You don't have to be a teddy bear collector to love this book, you just have to be human. This author has trulycaptured the human spirit. If there was ever a time for a feel good book, now is the time, and In Search of Teddy is the book.I LOVE THIS BOOK.

My Heart Sings and The Photgraphs are SUPERB!
I have seen hundreds of BEAR BOOKS and seem to read the same things over and over again..until picking this heartwarming tribute! There could never be a more fitting tribute to the annniversary of the Teddy Bear than these TRUE stories and Tales FROM THE HEART of a woman who obviously knows how to bring a smile to our faces and a tear to our eye! I am not one to sit with a book but have found myself unable to put it down reading it from cover to cover over and over and finding more in each story than before! Each of the many photographs in the book is a masterpiece in itself and I am looking forward to the day when we can purchase the prints and maybe even greeting cards with the pictures shown! I applaud and admire the writers kind and gentle soul and thank her for bringing peace and love back into our lives at a time when its needed most! A great gift for those you love. A must for your coffee table collection or bedside foe a rainy night... even if you arent a Bear collector!

Lots of wonderful activities for your preschooler
This book contains lots of wonderful activities to keep your preschooler or preschool class busy learning. The activities are grouped into sections based on what skill or topic they most relate to (ie fine motor skills, large motor skills, developing an interest in science, language skills, critical thinking). Each section is loaded with hands on active learning activities geared for preschoolers. Most of the supplies needed are items you will have around the house and are about ready to pitch. My personal favorite is the "Is the cup full" experiment. I use these with my kids at home. There are some activities that are geared for larger groups but most can be done individually. Whether you are an early childhood educator or a mom looking for quick activities to keep your young child busy, I would recommend this book.

Excellent Teacher Resource
Easy to use lesson plans with out all the searching. The kids loved it!

For those of us who draw a blank ...........
This book is absolutely wonderful. I bought it for homeschooling my youngest child and I really liked it. It has all the ideas u will ever need as well as what u need to do the things it suggests. There are many games to play and stories to go with the ideas presented. If you follow this book u will not need another.

Pleasingly informative, easy to understand.
What a great book! Easy to read, easy to understand

Excellent introduction and guide to document management.
Thanks to Joan Bannan for authoring a book a student can understand!!

I am a registered nurse, currently working on a master's degree in Administrative Studies. I have cited this book extensively in my professional report--a paper outlining utilization of coursework in the workplace. My report involves streamlining the policy and procedure system in a small hospital. This book has been invaluable in developing a project proposal to enhance workplace communication.

Excellent!
Wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading Intranet Document Management. I am a novice Intranet/Extranet Developer (worked on 2 projects to completion), and found this book to be the best computer-related book I own. Joan Bannan does not bombard the reader with techno-babble; computer terms and concepts are explained with clarity, providing a guide to managing Intranet documents for novices and experienced professionals alike who may desire a written frame of reference to guide them in their own projects.

The result is a book with with well-thought-out organization and excellent readability.

Terrific Alphabet Resource For K-1-2

Although I don't teach Letter of the Week, I still use a LOT of fun activities for individual letters throughout the year. The main difference between the old Letter of the Week approach and what I'm doing in my room is twofold:

1. I do every letter every day, as opposed to waiting weeks into the school year to "teach" individual letters.

2. My teaching is planned around thematic units, instead of around the letters of the alphabet.

I'm always looking for new activities that will help my students learn the letters and sounds, and build on prior knowledge. "Irresistable ABC's" has more than 50 fun, multi-sensory activities that incorporate all the learning styles found in most classrooms, and present alphabet knowledge and phonemic awareness/phonics activities using many of the "other" important tools we are teaching our students, including Graphing and Visual Organizers, making Big Books and Little Books, Shared Writing and Language Experience activities, working with names activities, and dozens more.

Many of the activities are extensions for familiar literature you're already using, like "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" and "26 Letters and 99 Cents."

Novelli collected the activities from teachers around the country and has a nice balance of activities suitable to pre-K through 2nd grade classrooms. This is a book I think most teachers will enjoy, filled with activities to build on prior knowledge and to complement whatever reading and writing programs you're already using in your classrooms.

Irresistible A,B,Cs a must have resource!
If you are an early childhoold educator this is a must have book! Irresistable A,B,Cs provides the teacher with meaningful hands on activities for each letter of the alphabet. Your students will love the fun activities and they will know their letters and sounds in no time!!

Irresistible A,B,Cs a must have for teachers!
This book is a must have resource for any early childhood teacher! This book provides the teacher with many hands on activities to make learning the letters and sounds a fun and meaningful learning experience. Order it today, you will be so glad that you did!

Full-page images unsullied by description
In Past To Present, photographer Joan Almond has documented village life in Moslem desert communities for over twenty-five years: her travels and discoveries are documented in a work that shares her photos and many cultural insights. The photos are presented as full-page images unsullied by description; the text resides in the front for a fine introduction of Almond's efforts.

Featuring ordinary village people and daily life
Enhanced with a brief but informative introduction by Karen Sinsheimer and Roberto Tejada's insightful essay, Joan Almond: The Past In The Present showcases an amazing and impressive photographic journey by documentary photographer Joan Almond through the Islamic desert communities of North Africa, Egypt, and the Middle East in a outstanding anthology of images featuring ordinary village people and daily life in a profound black-and-white photography that fully captures the spirit of a land and its people. Brief thoughts and a short essay or two are interspersed between the lengthy sections of captivating photographs. An extraordinary look at the human culture and the daily quest to survive and prosper, Joan Almond: The Past In The Present is a very highly recommended and enduring contribution to personal, professional, and academic collections.

Recommended for students of Islam and photography.
Almond has spent over 25 years photographing the life of Muslem people in Third World settings, following their rituals, religion, and personal lives. Almond Eyed: Past In Present presents location shots of these groups, displaying a set of images which have almost vanished from the world. From faces to architectural wonders, this packs in fine coverage.
