Mary Shelley: Frankenstein's Creator
Published in Unknown Binding by Bt Bound (March, 1901)
Author: Joan Nichols
Amazon base price: $14.65
Average review score:

Heartfelt, brooding, Gothic!
This biography of Mary Shelly offers very moving insights into the life (sorrows, defeats, triumphs) of the young enfant terrible who brought us the world's first truly "modern" monster, literature's most famous abandoned child. Nichols deftly conjures the fears and desires that allowed young Mary to dream such a terrible vision, and offers invaluable insights into the legacy Mary would ultimately sow. Strongly advised for all fans of Lit, Horror, Gothic Romance, and good old fashioned storytelling.

WRITER SPARKS LIFE INTO LONG-DEAD AUTHOR!
Couldn't resist the temptation to write that headline. It's true that this book brings Mary Shelley to life as a fascinatingly modern person; it shows the world she grew up in and how it ended up in Shelley's most famous book; and it brings up, through Shelley's concerns, questions of very modern import. As an adult I enjoyed this book thoroughly and hope it finds a variety of readers who will find in Shelley a kindred spirit. I thought the reading level was pitched a little low for teens, but that shouldn't bother them and the content is definitely appropriate for Young Adults. In fact it will probably offend a lot of parents who are not, shall we say, on Shelley's level... Shelley and her circle of friends might have made some mistakes; they took lots of risks; but they did all this in attempting to be true to their own ideals. A great story which has fascinated scholars for years is made accessible here, in all its gory detail, to teens (and, as I say, adult readers can enjoy it, too).

Mastery: Words to guide your thoughts/destiny
Mastery pursues the art of devotion to one's ambitions from a splendid array of vantage points. Regardless of one's individual journey, Ames finds commonality through a diversity of recognized masters from all walks of life. Compelling reading that is insightful, entertaining, and thought provoking. A definite title on my gift giving list.

Wonderful, rare book.
This book is well worth the time investment. Ames interviewed 30 people who are considered to be at the top of their field, and asked each one how to achieve mastery, what are the components of mastery, and what are the pitfalls along the way. The uniformity of their answers is striking. Every chapter is just wonderful, and equally engaging. This is easily one of the best books I've ever read.

One of the most helpful items I've ever purchased.
This tape has helped me relax on many, many occasions. I have almost worn out my tape. Joan's voice and the music are exceptionally soothing. You don't even have to pay attention to it, in order to get benefit from the tape. I just wish it came in CD.

Highly recommended!
I highly recommend this audio tape to people who are trying to incorporate meditation into their lives. Dr. Borysenko has a very soothing voice and the exercises are effective. I think this tape may be especially appealing to women; there is some content that I know some men may find corny. However, I found the both the breathing exercises and the stretching to be relaxing and very beneficial.

Men Who Never : Male Response to Women, Commitment and Marriage in the Culture of Today - Through the Testimony of 30 Life-Long Bachelors

Comprehensive studies
Although I take exception with labeling bachelors under 45 as "pre-married", is objectively well researched and written work. Despite the religious not-so-right and others' condemnation of increased singles and divorce, most would agree that remaining single has always been the appropriate lifestyle for many people.

Women Who Want to Understand
Women who want to understand the messages from our culture that effect the way men view women and marriage will love this book

I couldn't put it down!
,,,I think this book is a brilliant piece of fiction, an intelligent fantasy about the pagan culture of medieval Europe. When you start reading it you just get lost in it, you feel like you're really there. I think it's as close as we'll ever get to experiencing pagan life in the Middle Ages. I've read other Ann Chamberlin books and I think she's really a fine writer; I know that The Merlin of St. Gilles' Well was named "One of the Ten Best Fantasy and SF Novels of the Year" by Booklist. If you like really good historical novels and/or fantasy novels, fine prose, and a compelling story, you'll love this. Happy reading!

Fantastic reading expeience
In 1425 France, soldiers' blood continues to flows as decades of war divides the country. England and Burgundy occupy land that rightfully belongs to the French. Soldier-witch Gilles de Raes and his milk brother witch Yann know that the nation will continue to be a river of blood before Merlin's prophecy will save the earth in the guise of a maid from the Bois-Chenau.

In Domenry, Jehannette D'Arc wears the red kirtlee that signifies she is not available for courting. She hears voices in her head that she believes is God telling her what he wants her to do. Unlike most females, Jehannette can ride a horse and fight as good as any male. To many she is the incarnation of Merlin's prophecy and they are ready to follow her into hell once she gives the signal.

Ann Chamberlin writes a powerful mix of mysticism and fact to create the exhaling THE MERLIN OF THE OAK WOODS, setting the stage for Joan of Arc's endeavor to drive invaders from French soil. The juxtaposition of battle scenes with a child growing into a warrior-woman is believable and quite colorful. The only drawback to this powerful historical novel is that readers will need to wait one year for book two.

very entertaining
This book admittedly covers a small area, but it contains a wonderful collection of photos you will enjoy reviewing at length, and it isn't like there are a plethora of books out there on this subject.

Historic Photos and more
This coffee-table-size paperback offers about 100 historic black and white photos of the steamboat era: the boats, the people and the towns. A steamboat lover's dream at a good price.

Molecular Biology of the Gene
Molecular Biology of the Gene written by James D. Watson is one of the best texts on biology of the molecular level. With ample illustrations this makes a wonderful text for students and those who want to learn more about the primary structures of proteins and the interplay between them.

Molecular genetics is but one part of the whole of biology, the nature of cells and how they divide, but this book makes an attempt to address both in a seemless fashion. Genetic code, the replication of viruses and the control of protein synthesis are all a part of this book.

I found the narrative to be straight forward and very understandable as the author makes the point in a logical and lucid manor. You will need some schooling in the biological sciences as this is not a book for the novice. This text will give the biologist of the future the rigor, the perspective, and the enthusiasm that will be needed to bridge the gap between the single cell and the complexities of higher organisms.

This is an excellent text.

Clear, Concise and Comprehensive!
This book gives a better understanding and representation of recombinant DNA procedures. All topics relevant to Molecular Biology of the Gene has been addressed in a lucid manner with excellent description and illustrations. A lot of progress had been made in this field hence. But this is a must buy for students as well as educators of molecular biology.

It's a great book.
It is about a boy how is afraid of animais .One day he saw a rabbit in the torn bushes. He get the rabbit out and the rabbit gave him a wish to have courage to fight a dargon. And he is not afraid anymore. It was a nice book. And I like dargons that y I piked it .And the boy wont to be brave huter like his uncle.

For Kids and Adults Struggling with Avoidance and Anxieties
All the therapists out there plunking down $18 dollars for a "therapeutic book for children" should hold out for a copy of this book instead. It more beautifully and seductively illustrates a young child's triumph against a fearful monster than any other book in the professional field.

The illustrations are magickal. The text accessible to young children and adults alike. Remember ordering books purporting to be the top of the line in bibliotherapy -- and then when you got them in the mail they were black and white drawings with strained paragraphs about "coping skills" for kids? This book is a "corrective emotional experience" for those seeking a book that teaches without the use of a sledgehammer.

We need more books like these -- folklore as therapy, illustrated by non-Ph.D-ed artists!

Recommended for students of Black history and Christianity.
Joan Martin's More Than Chains And Toil provides a study of Christian work ethic and enslaved black women, analyzing work in the experience of black women and analyzing the meanings women attributed to their work. A fine guide examines notions of work, 'calling', and social conditions and issues of the times.

More Than Chains and Toil - A Multifaceted Book
The Reverend Dr. Joan M. Martin has produced a fantastic volume on the roles, lives, and philosophies of life of the Africa-American slave woman during the period of slavery in the United States and later. Dr. Martin, a Presbyterian Minister, describes and dissects how the Christian Religion of the slaveowner was used (and abused) by him to control his slaves, but also demonstrates how the slave women (and men) found in the same Christianity the key to their survival. The book's many Notes enables the interested reader to follow paths suggested by the text. Dr. Martin also supplies a very fine Bibliography. This book is not only of great interest to the individual reader, but should be considered as a text by Anthropology, Sociology, and Black Studies Dpartments as well.
