How to Increase your Personal Power and Effectiveness
As a Psychologist, over the years, I have strongly recommended the reading of the original edition of this book, which has helped people (yes, men as well as women) to improve their lives and relationships by teaching them how to speak up in a strong, positive, effective way. Looking to purchase another out-of-print copy, I was very excited to see that a new edition has finally come out! I intend to buy several, and give them to people I care about.

Full-color ink drawings evoke awe and the imagination
Written and illustrated by Lena Landstrom, The New Hippos is a thoroughly enjoyable picture book story about adapting to new neighbors. When new hippos come, it causes consternation among the existing hippo families, but when the newcomer hippo kids disappear, it is up to the neighbor hippo kids to find them. Full-color ink drawings evoke awe and the imagination in this delightful tale which is ideal for children preschool through first grade.

A New Home for Tiger

A beautifully written story.
The story is well written in simple sentences, which are descriptive and encourage the young reader to use their imagination. Many children who have moved house will be able to relate to how Tiger must feel. I read this to my class of 5/6 year olds and they thought it was wonderful and always ask for it to be read again. Scholastic have published a teaching pack to accompany this book which is well worth a look at.

What a delightful book!
An astonishing variety of experiences, all in or near the Big Apple, described with humor, insight, and enthusiasm. The authors' intimate knowledge and deep love for their city beam from every page. The directions and details are precise and easy to follow. A useful feature is the annotated contents section that makes it quick and easy to browse and choose a destination. HIGHLY recommended for the visitor or for the native who has spent too much time indoors.

Great Reference
OK, so I didn't exactly READ this book through... there are tens of thousands of quotations in here, along with such things as John F. Kennedy's complete inaugural address and other famous speeches in their entirety. When I was searching for "just that right quote" for a speech I was preparing, I found exactly what I was looking for, along with a dozen others I wish I could have used. And that was only in the "Leadership" section. This book was much better than any of the others I looked through, very comprehensive, unbiased, and it even looked educational. I'd recommend that anyone who needs to find just that perfect quotation look through this book first.

A Beautiful Retelling of the Classic Fairy Tale
Children everywhere love the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm.
Why then retell something so beautifully told? If
you are a writer/illustrator like Joan Walsh Anglund, the answer is
easy: because you wish to create a thing of beauty and magic.

Anglund is best known for her little books and magazine
pieces that feature wide-faced children with
button noses and dark eyes. This book is a de-
parture from her usual style of illustration
in that she also creates adults: a father,
stepmother, and the wicked old witch. The
surrounding woodlands are reminiscent of
the Bavarian Black Forest and her gingerbread
house is delectable. It will send you out looking for a sugar fix.

Children will love this book because it is beautiful,
interesting and well-told. Parents will enjoy
the positive portrayal of a loving, caring
father and two very brave children. Though
currently out of print, it may well be
available in your local library, if not
in tatters (as my copy is) from years of loving use. Enjoy!

Kids will laugh and learn.
Kids will love the attractive illustrations that effectively present the concept of opposites. The illustrations are very creative and attractive and helps children to easily grasp the concept being taught. The use of pumpkins to accomplish that makes it all the more fun. I think the presentation of the concept is unique and sustains readers interest.
