I'd really like to give this book a 3 1/2 star rating!
Although I enjoyed reading Ms. Matthews story, I felt that the story was lacking substance in regard to the character's interaction. Both Raven and Garreth themselves are wonderful characters who are well developed, but I felt that they never really got to know one another. There was great depth into how Raven felt as a midwife (which was great), and we know that Garreth is a brooding hero, but somehow they never, well...talk. Raven falls in love with Garreth and he with her, but in the book, they ony talk a few times, before they deside to get married. This all just seemed a little abrupt to me. I would have liked to have seen their relationship grow.

As for the rest of the story, it was quite wonderful. The secondary characters bring color and life the the story and made reading a pleasure. I recommend this book to anyone interested in a good plot and well a defined hero and heroine.

This story is really unique and weird with a surprise ending
I read tons of romances, but this one was different. There are a lot of twists and turns in the plot, and I kept getting fooled. I was impressed with how well this author writes. I have never heard of her, but I think she is very skillful. I liked a lot of her heroine's feminism, which was pretty improbable, given the time frame, but the book manages to pull it off because Ravenna (the hero) is the daughter of a very unique man, and he taught her to think for herself. I would recommend this to romance writers and mystery writers, too.

The Sew\Fit Manual- A Guide to Making Patterns Fit
This book contains some very useful information, but it is not very user-friendly. For example, it is very difficult to refer to the steps outlined by the authors when the book itself will not stay open without breaking the spine. A ring-binding would have been less frustrating. Missing words, confusing diagrams, awkward sentence structure, written in an atmosphere reminiscent of college educational theory courses makes this text hard to "digest". However, I am determined to get past these obstacles because the core imformation seems worth it. I hope that a truly revised edition is planned for the near future.

A lot of information....
As the other reviewer said, this book is not as user friendly as it could be. That said, however, this book has a massive amount of information to pass on. It is definately written for the experienced sewer. The book details the alterations needed for nearly every body configuration that you can think of. A good index would make this a valuable "cookbook" of solutions for nearly every fitting problem that a person could present, but I don't think it would be fair to concentrate on that shortcoming to the exclusion of all it does offer. As I said, this is for experienced (advanced) sewers. I really appreciate this book and have bookmarked the parts that apply to me and keep in my sewing room so it is available whenever I get a new pattern that needs "adjusting."

Shoes in the Freezer Beer in the Flower Bed
Rather cute title but the books is nearly useless. The suggestions are all things that everyone has know for years. I didn't find anything that I didn't already know. It is also a random assortment of tips that covers lots of things but also omits more things. Save your money.

Another helpful book - "On Your Own For The First Time"
For another lifesaver for the single mom...."On Your Own For The First Time" by Jeff Bowers. For those mom's who find themselves having to do it ALL after years of having help, I found this book saved me on things I never knew and gave me great advice! What a guide, what a great tool!

Perfect for Single Moms Out There
I think that all single moms should get this book. With a baby on it's way in less than two weeks, I feel so much more at ease about bringing this baby into the world, and doing so with confidence. It's highly inclusive of financial, emotional, and time-management issues. Great guide to get you single moms started!

To destroy you is no loss: the play, based upon the book by JoAn Criddle
Published in Unknown Binding by Dramatic Pub. ()

The truth of the matter is, I can't recommend it.
I had to do this play as part of my Theater class, and while it hit hard the first time one read it, it was only a matter of time before we started seeing the generally mediocre writing that makes up this play's fabric. It's very hard on the actor -- how does one say "My sadness choaks the words from my heart" without cracking up ? So, to sum it all up -- this play depends too much on the abilities of the actors and not enough on its own writing. For which I can only give it two stars.

A powerful, mind-opening, attitude-changing drama.
As the author of the book upon which this play is based, I worked closely with the playwright Dorothea Bonneau. I've seen several school and communtity performances of TO DESTROY YOU IS NO LOSS: The Play, that leave audiences in tears, determined to be more open and understanding toward the plight of the world's refugees, more respectful of their courage and determination to survive incredible odds in their fight for freedom and safety. It is a story of hope, of the ability to overcome the most hellish of conditions with one's humanity intact - a story that celebrates the strength of the human spirit. Although told from the perspective of a Cambodian family during the hellish Pol Pot years of slavery and oppression, it is a universal story of all those caught in the cross-fire of radical ideologies, manical despots, or political upheavel throughout the world.

He loved The Wiz?
I enjoyed this book despite myself. The author just LOVED some really wretched movies - The Wiz shaped his life? However, his tales of growing up gay in a Catholic family in Reading, PA are interesting and evocative. A fun little diversion for those of us who grew up more into theatre, movies, and glamor than sports and girls.

Movie Memories and More!
This book gives enjoyable insight into the mind of a boy who was captured in the journey that cinema can take us on. He reveals quite well his child perspective and the impact films like The Sound of Music, Hello Dolly, The Wiz, and The Poseidon Adventure had on him. You get to travel through Patrick's recollections not only of film experiences but also of his large Catholic family, his self embrace of being gay and his dating interactions as a gay young man. I often found myself recalling my own childhood memories of cinematic impressions, relating to my early identity as a gay male, and I often found my self laughing out loud. Though it's a book of Patrick's history, it touches off sparks of memories that we all have in common and unknowingly share. It transports the reader to their own childhood memories which is a gift to any reader and the work of a skillful writer.

3rd in THE BIG BAD WOLFE Series
Sergeant Royce Wolfe rescues Megan Delaney from her fears and trauma of a near rape and brutilizing.

He lays [grin] all six foot four inches of himself at her disposal and etc., as he tracks down the perp.

This is the third Wolfe to bit the dust -- story is light but interesting up to a point.

A little disappointing after reading One Tough Hombre -- but --
great characters, both men and women but story is just so much fluff.

TOUCHINGLY TENDER.
Pennsylvania State Police Sergeant Royce Wolfe was on his way home when a car suddenly cut the highway in front of him and plowed into a guardrail. Megan Delaney was too busy escaping from a would-be rapist to think straight. All she knows is that she never felt as safe, before or since they met, as in Royce's arms.

4th of THE BIG BAD WOLFE Series
Cameron Wolfe, pushing 40, is the oldest of the Wolfe clan and the last to fall into hormones and then love?. He is known as "The Lone Wolfe" and is now located in Colorado. His location before this was unknown.

Sandra Bradley is a high powered lawyer with a threat made against her and Cameron is tracking a perp that has threatened him.

The story opens with the question "Why hadn't they gone to bed together?" and leads up to them deciding to share a hideout cabin in the mountains. Now they have an unadulterated week long sexual communication. Get real! There are better situations in which to get closer aquainted.

The best part of the whole book, not counting Sandra's attempt to save Cameron even with her skrewed up misunderstanding, was finding out that all 4 women are pregnant before marriage. Hah!

They finally legalize their philanderings and in the following year [grin] produce, for momma, Maddy Wolfe, a son each from the youngest brothers and Cameron and Sandra produce twin daughters.

Finally a decent ending to a rather run of the mill story series, all had great characters but marshmellow stories -- definitely NOT keepers. Ah well, you can't win them all.

HOT! at the start but ......Where'd it go?
After six years of lusting after FBI agent Cameron Wolfe, Lawyer Sandra Bradley jumps at the chance to go to bed with him when he invites himself along on her sabbatical vacation! But when danger threatens, the Lone Wolfe's high-handed macho instincts really grate on Sandra's fiercely independent yet sensitive nature.

Titles are deceiving
Book contains many useful lists / charts / comparisons to define giftedness. Many helpful hints about raising a gifted child. Main criticism is that the book is more about raising children in general -- and may push those with "normal" kids into thinking they have gifted ones and down that track -- when they should not. Gifted kids are the exception, not the norm as this book makes it seem.

Treasure Chest of Ideas
I first read this fine book when it was published in 1989. Because of the abundance of timeless, insightful ideas it contains, I gave it to my daughter when she became a mother. Potential readers looking at the Contents page will immediately see the wide range of topics discussed on the subject of giftedness, and how to recognize and nuture it during the critical developmental years of birth to seven. The chapters abound with ideas on stimulating the creativity, curiosity, social, emotional and intellectual development of this young individual.

Services which are available and what to expect upon school matriculation are discussed. My daughter found the Appendix section especially useful. It contains helpful developmental checklists. By matching the lists to the child's ability parents have a practical way to identify strengths and weaknesses of their child. Parents and grandparents who are curious to know if their child is gifted and/or how to effectively deal with that special individual will find this book to be a treasure chest of ideas.

Same Old, Same Old...
Patricia Cornwall's same depressing formula is getting very boring. Dr Scarpetti will once again not be allowed a shred of happiness. Her only long term relationship is with her equally long suffering niece. If you've read one, you've basically read them all.

This could have been better.
I couldn't wait to get my hands on the latest Scarpetta novel. I have read all of the Scarpetta books, and I have to say this was a bit disappointing. I enjoyed the technical aspects of the story, and found that interesting. The characters however, have not grown much over the years. Kay is still insecure about her status with Benton and seems stingy with the emotional follow-through in that relationship. Lucy is still the lonely genius with an attitude. Speaking of Lucy, why is it still such an issue that she is gay? Wasn't that covered in the last few books? Marino is still the cynical cop, looking for love when we all know it's Kay he truly wants. I would like to see these characters move forward a little. The plot was fine. Overall, this was not my favorite, but being a Cornwell fan....I had to finish it. Hopefully the next book in the series gets back to Cornwell's earlier work - which was much more interesting and left me intrigued.

Carrie strikes again...is she dead this time?
I love Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series! Every book is so interesting. This book is as terrific as the rest, however, I was just as shattered as Kay, Lucy and Marino regarding the final victim of Carrie Grethen (or it is her final victim after all???). I was so angry and hurt! A testimony to the affect and quality of these novels on this reader, and, I'm trying to say this without giving anything away, is that I cried unabashedly for the last three chapters and then, was unable to even start the next book. I may have to wait a few months to take on Black Notice without, again, sobbing through the book. I am easily sucked into the worlds presented in books, but rarely are my reactions this intense.
One thing, though... Hey Patricia Cornwell! Is Kay Scarpetta EVER going to be happy???
