Woman's Guide to Making Therapy Work

a great marriage of CBT and psychodynamic approaches
This is a great book. It is a practical and effective marriage of cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic approaches to therapy that fills gaps that just one approach often misses. It also is specifically geared toward women and the social roles we are so often expected to fill and the coping strategies we often use. It is an excellent resource that I plan to use with my clients and already use with myself.

Photographic Exploration of Changing Roles of Women
In a second printing,in 2000, this book originally published in 1981 continues to give a look at some of the roles women traditionally filled in the decades after World War II. The photographer points out "In the years these images were taken very few middle-class women worked outside of their homes. The roles then assigned to women separated us from business, from politics and from each other."

Weston Naef, then assistant curator of phototraph at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, selected two of these images, Nan Wood Graham, Model for American Gothic, 1975, and Junior League Christmas Party, 1962 for the museum's photography collection.

Many of the images have gentle satire such as the Coe College Faculty Wives Club with a painting of a semi-nude by Kunyioshi and disapproving members.

The photographer says, "during the years I took these photographs, I did not realize how they documented the limited roles of women. I wanted to explore their lives to see why my own life seemed so alienated and different from theirs in so many instances. With the birth of the women's movement in the 1960s, these photographs ultimately had all kinds of meanings from the era.

The photographs have been exhibited at the New York City Camera Club and in many galleries.

Women On Power: Leadership Redefined aptly edited by the collaborative efforts of Sue J. M. Freeman (Professor of Education and Child Study, Smith College), Susan C. Bourque Esther Booth Wiley Professor of Goverment, Smith College), and Christine M. Shelton (Associate Professor of Exercise and Sport Studies and codirector of the Project on Women and Social Change, Smith College) is an impressive selection of bold essays on the changing role of women in the workplace, politics, business, and more. The issues address range from how has gender affected today's ideas of leadership and power?, to how can mothering be a catalyst to social activism? All of the manifold issues addressed are thoughtfully discussed and grappled with at length in this scholarly work. Women On Power is very highly recommended to Women's Studies reading lists and reference collections.

Women On Women 3
Before i read this book .. i felt lost and curious at the same time . I knew that I had feelings for women , just as i had taught myself to "act" like i felt for men . I came across " Women on Women 3" on a road trip to Maine with some friends of mine . I was only 17 . So , i stayed up one night, the same day i bought the book , and read all night . Each story spoke to me , and i had come to this grand realisation that i was in fact a lesbian. It was as though a little light in my head was turned on ! I carried the book to my chest with me everywhere . I couldn't have been more happy . When i came home though , it was a different story . I had left my book lying on the stair case. My mother; with her air of revernt grace that seems to follow her about , took one look at the book , and thew it away . I never saw my book again , and living in the small town that i do , it is close to impossible to find any lesbian literature . So i wrote this.. I feel that now i can not mourn the loss of it .. but now i can be blessed with the knowlege that someone who is searching for their 'indenity' can read this , and know that there is one great book out there too look to ..

Offers passionate insights into the lesbian experience ...
28 stunning stories by some of America's best-known Lesbian writers and new voices in lesbian fiction. Not all of these stories are about sex, but all explore relationships and are seen from a point of view not heard from often enough. "... to live, to observe, to write as a lesbian is to live, observe, and write from a position of difference." Stories range from slow and sensual to hot and hard, and appeal to a wide variety of readers, including heterosexuals and couples. Featured writers include: Willa Cather, Sapphire, and Jewelle L. Gomez. In their introduction, the editors say: "Irreverence and exuberance are perhaps at last becoming integrated into the lesbian experience in a manner that will help give still more varied forms to lesbian lives and literature." Brief biographies of women political leaders.
Brief but interesting biographies of seven well-known women political leaders. Good sources of information with nice bibliography for further reference. Last chapter also lists several additional women leaders. The historical works in this book should interest students in grades 5th through the 8th, and I would recommend it to the teachers, as well.

Great teaching aid.
Reviews 30 prefixes. Each prefix is given two pages. A list of example words with the prefix and a picture to go with one of the words (i.e. antibiotic and a picture of a pill bottle with pills around it). Great for visual learners. The 2nd page is a review of the words and some fill in the blank. Two sister books about more prefixes and roots are Word Strength and Word Wisel.

Vocabulary Builder
I am a high school English teacher and I have seen this book used with Freshman. The kids respond well to the formate, the exercises are great and really make the students think and process the new vocabulary words. The exercises that accompany the word list are perfect for mini- lessons. This book is teacher friendly and I use the word list as both vocabulary and spelling practice, plus, it is a great way to fulfill the standards for teaching root, prefixes and suffixes, and it gets the students ready for the root, prefixes and suffixes they will have to know for testing like the HSEE and the STAR 9. After seeing what a success and how easy this resource is to use in the classroom I am finally ordering one for myself after borrowing a fellow teacher's copy for months. I would recommend this resources to 6-10 grade English teachers.

special book on the nature of energy & how you can direct it
This book really helped me when I was first opening up to the idea that our thoughts and beliefs create our reality. It explains everything in such a clear way. Reading it was like having a life couch to give me guidance and faith (in print.) Now, over a decade later, I still refer back to it from time to time when I need some inspiration and reinforcement about my path, how to view difficult situations, or decision-making. I have read many, many spiritual-based books that contain these principles, but this is one of the few that really stands out. It has lots of really creative exercises for those who like them, but even if you don't do any of them, the book is just as valuable. Personally, I do not understand why this book never became "big."

For anyone seeking this type of material, I also highly recommend The Power of Now and the Sanaya Roman books (specifically Creating Money, Spiritual Growth, and Personal Power Through Awareness.)
