Wow, it's just a really terrible, terrible book.
I cannot begin to explain how single, close-minded this book is. In my opinion, I believe this author wrote this book back in the early 90's to make some fast cash. The author, Joan Hake Robie, relates the Ninja Turtles to everything that is evil and wrong. She over-indulges the book with ludicrous overstatements and actually encourages parents to distract children from this form of entertainment.

Throughout the years, we've come across the Power Rangers, Simpsons, Pokemon which all induce violence in some form or another, making the Turtles look like innocent children skipping through a flowery field. The book does appear to be a Christian book as she relates the Turtles franchise as Satan's work, but being a Christian myself, this is [wrong]. Throughout the entire book she's been ridiculing this comic/cartoon/movie, and in return she's being ridiculed herself. I encourage you NOT to read this book. It is a waste of time because her ideals of philosophy, psychology, and what should be morally accepted is very, very, incorrect. What a shame.

How Stupid this Is
First of all. THis is book is criticizing the turtles! Whoa thanks for ruining our childhood! I mean look at all the cartoon shows there were this author was just jealous because this cartoon was soo popular for children. They had morals and so what aout the violence. I have seen a lot worse. This books should be banned or even burned!

This book must be a joke.
Come on, meditation is a religion? And from the same publisher as "The Truth About Dungeons and Dragons," where it is claimed D&D spells actually work?! This is obviously a joke, and people are missing it. I don't give it five stars because it is rather pricey for the amount of material present. The author also fails to point out he harmful effects of an all-pizza diet on children.

Praxis II
The book is outdated. The test has completely changed since the book was published. Study your Methods book if you want to pass the Praxis II Test.

Little You Need to Know
I bought this book to prepare for the school psychology speciality exam. It was useless for this purpose. The mock school psychology exam provided no explanations for the answers, nor did it mimic the actual exam offered by ETS in length or content. I ended returning the book to Amazon.com; it contained nothing that helped me prepare for exam that I had not already garnered from the ETS materials available for free.

This book is not everything it claims to be.
The book does give explanations of its answers, however it does not have any PLT exams in it. Therefore, it does not have "everything you need to know."

A shocking novel for young readers.
This book was a very, very bad novel for me to read. It was as exciting and interesting as washing the dishes. Even the boring bit at the start when they were getting to the plot was better than the middle where it is supposed to be the most exciting part of the book. The reason is, because this is one of the most talked about subjects in our community today and I have heard so many of these things happening. I definately won't recommend this to children of my age (11).

The bird smugglers was an ok book
It was an ok book because alot of it was quite boring and it never kept me on the edge of my seat. Somtimes the book lost its meaning. My favourite part was at the start when Magaret got kicked in the gut because I don't like her personality.

A disrespectul, voluminous account of an amazing woman
This biography was exhausting to read. The author painted a bleak, even disrespectul picture of this truly unique woman. There must be a better biography of this great woman! This book is not worth the time it takes to read it, which is a considerable amount given its enormous size! I do not recommend this biography in the least. Very disappointed with the author's approach to her subject.

Informative, but it could have been so much better written
While, this book was informative, it was a chore to read. While chronological, it seemed disjointed and was difficult to finish. I couldn't believe this book won some sort of award and only slogged through it because it was a gift from someone who met the author at a wedding.

I wasn't impressed...
I'm afraid the authors, while seeming to desire catering to the novice, merely came across as condescending with their choice of phrasing. The book is not set up very intuitively, nor does it lend itself well to general troubleshooting. The troubleshooting offered is positioned in areas of focus that would be difficult to determine without considerable knowledge up front, as opposed to assisting in isolating a problem step-by-step. Further, instead of helping identify parts, etc., the authors seem to assume that you have a thorough overall knowledge of your particular motor, and offer no path to that information. In its defense, the book does go into great detail about disassembling and cleaning or rebuilding different devices and systems. But again, it doesn't help you determine problems, so who'd know what to disassemble? Sorry kids, but major thumbs down on this one.

Review
This book helped in troubleshooting my problem but said absolutely nothing about how to fix it.

Note from Christian D&D Fan
Greetings, to my D&D playing brethern...I am a Catholic D&D player and I would like to point out that demons have never materialized while we were playing, my soul has never been sucked out by my mounstrous manual, and pressing a D&D book against a bible does NOT cause the D&D book to burn to ashes and vanish in a cloud of brimstone. I wish that people would lighten up and actually PLAY THE GAME (or at least talk to people who do) before they go ranting and raving about satan worship. Yeesh.

This Crackhead Got My Books Burned
Back "in the day," when the fervor for burning books was running rampant, this author, along with a few others, helped fuel a hysteria that led to my books (now replaced and lovingly guarded by row after row of barbs and teeth, plus the occasional demon the "not-a-game" helped me conjure) and fire meeting. For that reason and that reason alone, I gave this book the "1" middle finger. Were it not for this point, however, I would have given it a four, because I laughed and laughed at what foolish things mortal put in print. It seems they are willing to believe in anything, from games summoning demons to books holding powers cosmic. Personally, I think someone should start a campaign burning volumes such as this. I don't think it would matter, though, because the people involved in these works apparently aren't interested in literacy and the art of reading without a match anyhow.

Hahahahaaaaa.... Uh... 'Scuze me... Hehe...
Sorry, I was just reading the reviews this "book" recieved (I've never actually read it) and I must say the lady does sound like one of those devout, Christian fanantics (Bless their souls, they ARE funny) who have never even seen a D&D book in their life let alone someone PLAYING the "devil game". I just can't understand how or why someone that seems to have such good intentions can get so mislead. Ah... I never got good grades in school or anything but ask any of my friends or family or anyone I've ever worked for and they'll tell you that both myself and the people that hang around me are definetly NOT satan worshippers. As a matter of fact I'm a hardcore anti-satanist (along with hardcore anti-hatist, etc, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah, yakity-shmakity...) Anyways, this is just a tiny little note to send a welcome out to anyone that has it in the heads that D&D is a satan's game; Just go watch a couple of sessions, and, if you still feel the same way then fine, but you dont need to go screaming it out to the rest of the world. You play your games and we'll play ours. Thanks.

HORRIBLE
Sorry I didn't check here first. This book is awful. Even the answer keys were incorrect, and some sections don't have answer keys at all. I am going to return this book too.

No help at all
This book was awful.... if you are Middle Childhood it will not help one bit. The PLT practice exam was for K-6 and there are not specialty area tests for Social Studies or Language Arts.
Don't buy this book even though I don't think there are any helpful books out right now for the Praxis II.

ARCO PRAXIS II Exam -- Levy and Levy
Please do not give this book even a partial star! It is disorganized; there is no cross-referencing of information; and, it is a total waste of money. I will try to return it ASAP!

PS -- I gave this book no rating and was informed that a 1-5 star had to be posted. Oh, well.

I agree that this book of just a bunch of lies with a bunch of non-sensical facts that tell you nothing. It is just a big public relations advertising ploy to try to make money.

The Memory of All That: The Life of George Gershwin

what a mess
Peyser doesn't write very well and she doesn't understand her subject. That said, the fact is that because she had her agenda of uncovering hitherto unknown material (if for the wrong reasons), she has done just that. There are nuggets here, new information, new ideas about the life and the music. But they are so horribly mixed in with unfounded gossip and rumor -- did I mention the terrible writing? -- that only a true Gershwin aficionado will recognize what there is of value in this book.

Garbage In - Garbage Out
This book proves the old computing adage! It's too bad the author doesn't have any solid research to back up the wild claims she makes about Gershwin's life. Too bad there isn't less than one star on amazon.com ratings, this book deserves far less.

Reads like a bad supermarket tabloid.
This book seems like an overt attempt at character assassination. If the author wants us to believe most of the "new material" that is presented in this book it's going to take more documentation than third or fourth hand rumor and gossip.

Surely there is a lot more complexity and depth to George Gershwin's character than we have had in previous biographies, but this trashy book doesn't convey that. For example, we are now to believe that Gershwin was a sadist because the author heard that from someone, who heard it from someone, who had it second hand from someone who heard it from George's psychologist? Puh-leeeze!

In my opinion, the author presents a lot of negative points about Gershwin without citing credible sources to back up the claims. I felt I was reading a diatribe from someone with a personal axe to grind, rather than a scholarly or well researched biography.

Let's hope a new generation of biographers don't cite this work as their source material for future biographies of Gershwin. It's trash.

There are other more informative biographies of Gershwin out there...go for something else.

Disappointed
See previous review, he covered it all and I agree. I wish the Clymer book was still in print, I've had good results with them before.

selocs: mercruiser stern drive: alpha one generation 2
The picture on the cover is very enticing. However, once you open the book you will wish you had never bought it. There are three reasons why I did not like this book: first, the directions of simple maintenance are very complex, second, the user friendly approach is not utilized, and last, the illustrations are poor. After reading this review, I hope I have changed your mind about purchasing this book.

Let us start with the complex instructions. This book covers not one type of engine but four and each engine has at least two variations. The book tries but fails to differentiate the various models. Most instructions seem to ramble on, then pause to tell you "oh by the way you should check this other chapter before you start this repair."

Next is the user unfriendly format. The book assumes the user is a ASE certified mechanic (don't really know how you become one). It will instruct you to remove the part or parts without telling you how it is accomplished. Or if you are a ASE certified mechanic, any hard task are simply labeled as "take to your local mercruiser dealer".

Last is the illustrations. Several of the illustrations are very dark or blurry. Seldom could you make out where a screw or part is that a text is referring to. Most of the pictures/diagrams seemed to have been copied from previous manuals. The illustrations are also hardly on the same page as the instructions. I found myself constantly looking back and forth through the pages to find the proper illustration.

I rated this a one star book because of the reasons above (plus a zero star was not listed). Do yourself a favor and look for another repair and maintenance manual.
