An insightful view of alien/human/telepath interaction.
True Humans, they thought of themselves as lords of the universe and looked upon D'Neerians, the only human telepaths as being not quite human, not quite trustworthy. But a few humans could see the potential. So when the starship Endeavor was launched, D'Neerian navigator Lady Hannah was on board. And ultimately the voyage of discovery would all depend on her.

Among my most cherished books in my sewing library
This book is worth its weight in gold. I am so glad that I have it.

Among the things in this book from which I've found inspiration and the jumping-off point for creativity are:

- Let your fabric speak to you. Learn to shop first for the fabric and then find the pattern IT wants you to use. This chapter taught me much about how to avoid the regrets of poor fabric choices for a given project.

- Suits Me To a T(Shirt) - how to take the most basic of patterns and jazz it up for about any occasion, including maternity!

- Pattern-free blouses. This chapter title says it all. Let your fabric speak and let the artist inside of you come jumping out to help you make your own wearable art.

and my favorite of all... the one that prompted me initially to buy the book after seeing Ms. Adams at a workshop...

- Neckline Nuances -- how to take wardrobe staples and boost them to a new level of appropriateness for any occasion with simple additions of neckline variables. Too hot at that seminar for a blouse and a suit coat but a suit coat would be required? Not enough room in the luggage for so many blouses? How about a fake blouse that's really only a fancy dickey?

(If you see her at the workshop, she'll make you laugh so hard with her stories about trying to remember that you cannot take off a jacket if you're only wearing a dickey underneath.)

This little gem of a book will open a world of creativity for you, and teach you much about wise fabric and pattern choices in the meantime.

Happy Sewing!

PS - I once had the marvelous privilege of meeting Ms. Adams at a seminar she presented. If you ever get the opportunity, go!

works best with a Overhead Projector
This book didn't work well with a lamp, but worked really well with a old 3 M Overhead Projector. The only problem is the stiffness of the binding which makes it hard to lay the page flat on the Projector plate, a spiral binding would make laying the pages flat a lot easer.

Silvan Tomkins Redux
The work of psychologist Silvan Tomkins may finally earn reappraisal, thanks to this collection. Editors Sedgwick and Frank have chosen wisely from Tomkins' four-volume investigation of affect, Affect,Imagery, and Consciousness, presenting in this collection an overview of Tomkins'groundbreaking work.

Silvan Tomkins outlines a way of thinking about affect that is part-science, part-poetry; his work on shame, in particular, offers insights not just for psychologists but for anyone interested in the mysterious and pervasive mechanisms of shame in social and intimate life. The brilliant introduction, "Shame in the Cybernetic Fold," relocates Tomkins' work for a contemporary and interdisciplinary audience. Fans of editor Sedgwick will be fascinated, I think, by her explorations in unfamiliar territory; equally, the introduction excites interest in newcomer Frank. I found this book enthralling, leading me straight to Tomkins' own collections.

Brief and succinct verse to explore human passions
Adams raises the writing of poetry to the level of a fine literary art in the pages of Sheaves Of Silence as she uses brief and succinct verse to explore human passions, interconnectedness, future and past, and the dualities of life and experience. Silence: Noise bothers me. The sound of/radio, television, speeding cars,/talking laughing, voices -- any/noise invades my inner silence/where thoughts spring new and/wander in a nebulous world spread/out beyond my usual self. There, in/my inner silence, lies an unknown/realm for exploration, challenging/my imagination to carry me beyond/the present known to that final/unlimited forever.

Warm and heart-filling!
This is a group of poems from the heart. It captures the essence of growing up in a large family in a Mexican border town. It is truely one of the best group of contempory peoms I have read. I am a bit prejudice tho, I am his sister.

A Book To Dream On
The story of a young Plains Indian who traveled to Europe in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Rodeo, this book is extraordinary and moving. The story is fun, but it is the illustrations that bring this book to the level of genuine art: the pictures are completely magical. This book transformed my day after reading it: I felt renewed by it's beauty and innocence.
