Questions from a dating service
A fun book to flip through for a laugh. If couples can not come to some sort of agreement with these simple, if not amusing questions, then they are not ready for the hard hitting decisions that a real relationship requires. If this is the best that the author can offer after being in 3 marriages, they are obviously not a person who should be writing a book on this topic.

Off the Rocks
My marriage was in serious trouble. My wife and I were not getting along, despite the fact that we LOVED each other. We read this book and took the questions very seriously, because since we had no kids yet we were both prepared to end it, even though we had our love -- somtimes love's not enough, yaknow. But at the end of the questions we were both convinced that we really did belong together. Some other books help us to make it to our upcoming anniversary happier than ever. They are "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway," and "9 Free Secrets of New Sensual Power" -- that author's DVD "New Free Sex" is also excellent. By doing all this work I came to realize it was my fear of intimacy which was keeping me and my wife from getting along. Admitting there's a problem and finding out what it is are the two biggest steps. Then you can get the cure. In this case the answer was the skills Clint teaches in his sexual empowerment lessons. Thank goodness for authors who really know what they're talking about!

A Great Conversation Starter
I had heard about this book a couple of years ago, and just recently read a friend's copy. It is a total joy...and it is great for helping couples talk about things that might not ever come up....until they're married. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed it.

"One Wheel in the Sand"
.
The Good News --- Mr. Adams does an excellent job of developing the key concepts of chassis performance and then ties them together using a computerized chassis modeling program. His book is very clearly written at the conceptual level and is well-suited for the semi-technical reader.

The Bad News --- To design a new independent front (or rear) suspension and check its effectiveness, the program the author advocates and uses in his examples is not available to the reader since its source is no longer in business. Further, there is no reference to, or explanation of, the coding or its formulary relationships needed to integrate the critical parameters of chassis design. Accordingly, we are left with a primer of suspension concepts that cannot be implemented with any degree of certainty or predictability.

In the absence of this program, or an explanation of how it integrates the principles Mr. Adams sets forth, this book would be more aptly titled "Basic Concepts of Chassis Design with Generalized Examples." Were this quintessential program or its commented coding still available, however, this book would nicely deliver what its title implies. In its absence, though, "Chassis Engineering" is of little help to anyone who actually wants to design chassis elements with any degree of predictability. Unfortunately, after reading this book, the chassis engineering process remains one of well-informed, well-intentioned trial and error.

Was the editor on vacation that week?
Herb Adams' Chassis Engineering is a good introduction to chassis and suspension design for the general reader. The book is easy to read and well laid out with lots of photos and diagrams. A cursory reading will reveal many of the intricacies, interrelationships, and compromises involved in designing components and subsystems to engineer a chassis for a given purpose. Anyone with an interest in automotive design with high school reading skills can certainly gain some insight and appreciation for the complexities of chassis and suspension design from reading Adams' book.

As entertaining and informative the book may be for the general reader, Chassis Engineering cannot in any way be considered a reference book. The informed reader, or anyone with an editorial eye, will quickly spot inconsistencies throughout the text. The definitions and use of fundamental terms vary from page to page and there are direct conflicts between essential portions of the text and the supporting illustrations. Those familiar with the subject can easily overlook the errors and get the gist of the wisdom Adams is trying to impart. For all others: take all information in Chassis Engineering with a grain of salt until it can be cross-referenced and confirmed by better reference material.

Good reference, excellent primer
First, the not so good news. Like every other book in the automotive section, it is slightly dated. It is a fact in this subject, like a few others, and the nature of a technology-driven pursuit.

Now that we got that out of the way, i found this book to be a very good reference for those who have some experience and a fairly good grasp on the concepts behind it. Also, it comes across in basic, easy to understand language, explaining anything more technical then simple shop-talk. Clear, concise examples with practical, real-world numbers are used through out. A relaxed, yet informative tone keeps it more interesting than a textbook, while adequately explaining the underlying technical points.

i did feel that the book glossed over a few things however. Most notably in the section covering different types of front suspensions, it starts off with a well-balanced good point/bad point system. Near the end, it starts to feel as though the authors bias towards certain types shows through. Not to the point of comprimising the books authority, but it does show.

The book itself is well laid out, clear charts and graphs, black and white pictures provide good illustration. The index is good, and makes for easy location of particular points. The last page has a list of books (from the publisher of course) that provides suggestions for continued reading.

Spiteful old woman with a dog, who cares?
Who cares that this spiteful woman has a dog? You would THINK there are better things in the world to write about.
Cindy Adams is an ignorant, vicious, shallow woman who has the NERVE to knock human beings (the people of Canada) yet lavishes so much attention on a stupid little mutt! Get your twisted priorities in order, Cindy. Dogs over human beings? Get a LIFE!!
It's pampered, ignorant old women like this who shame us all with their shallowness.
(Oh, and Nova Scotia and Alberta are NOT cities, they are provinces. You learn basic geography in SCHOOL, honey!)

Great
I must admit that I have a Yorkie. This book made me laugh and cry. It made me feel good that someone else acts as crazy as I do over my Yorkie. This book is just a fun book to read. I would recommend it to anyone who is crazy about their dog or any animal lover.

You will laugh & cry ..............
Being owned by 4 Yorkshire Terriers myself, I could not resist buying this book .... A wonderful story of how a tiny ball of fluff (initially unwanted) helped Cindy get through a very tough time in her life.
You will laugh and cry with Cindy as I did.
If you are owned by a Yorkie you will recognize his / her traits in Jazzy.
Friends of mine who are not dog owners have enjoyed it just as much as I did.

Absolutely useless!
Oh my God! You have GOT to be kidding me! Last Thanksgiving I blew almost [X] on the hardback edition, and what did it get me? Twenty impatient relatives, 20 lbs. of uncooked turkey, and 500 pages of -- what -- advice on which markets to visit in Istanbul!

Istanbul!

I just wanted to know what temperature to cook the damn bird at! Maybe a nice apple-sage stuffing or something. Jeez.

If anybody sees these Peck and Sachet people, maybe help them get a clue. What are these guys, raving vegetarians???

We felt like Adam and Manja personally planned our trip!
What a pleasant book! When getting ready for our trip, we asked friends who had been there what to expect. They quickly recommended this book, and my wife and I (and our fellow two travellers) quickly came to see why. While it failed to include great maps and color pictures (our only fault with it), it did a fantastic job of telling the 'stories behind the scenes' -- we all had different travel guides open, but all of the fun stuff always came from this one. So, either they made all of those fun facts up, or they really know their stuff, and spent a lot of time speaking with locals to get up to speed (i'm guessing #2 is the truth!)

Finally, we loved the personality communicated by the author(s). Is delivered in a slightly sarcastic/humourous tone -- right up our alley!

Again -- you'll love this book -- a great investment for any traveller.

Better than any other available Turkey travel guide
Great details, good insight, clear organization! Authors Peck & Sachet understand what travelers need to know to make the most of their trip through Turkey.

Why does a writer has to review his own book?
Since the writer has to review his own book, you already know that he has a lack of self-confidence

ASP.Net is a Wonderful Book

Laughable.
If this book didn't take itself so seriously, it'd have a shot at being comedy. Pineiro's writing reads like a botched attempt to recreate 30's pulp science fiction, and his editor was clearly asleep at the switch. My favorite quote:

"...[The Kardinal] curled the fingers of both hands against the yellow-painted metal cover and took a deep breath. Hinges creaking in silent protest, the heavy cover inched upward." (p. 106)

The characters are always being "scourged" by some kind of pain, at least when that pain is not "screaming obscenities" at them.

The plot is standard-fare airport trash, and one never seriously doubts the good guys are going to win it all: the girls, the money, and the technology. It's too bad the ending hinges on the hero, drawn as a brilliant biotech CEO, being convinced to compromise his dream by a painful and silly economics lecture on disruptive technology.

I'd recommend you pass this one up unless you're looking for some good laughs. I hope Pineiro gave his other books better QC before shipping them.

Suspensful and captivating
R.J Pineiro puts you right smack dab in the middle of world espionage. This book is both captivating and suspensefull, while intriging the reader. i myselfhave read this book two times, and each time it kept getting better.

Phenomenal
I picked up this book after reading the author's latest (Shutdown). Once again, Pineiro exceeded my expectations. There's action, conflict, drama, and love, all tied up in a nifty, very original plot that will leave you wanting for more.

Waterless Mountain

Horrible
This is the most boring book I have ever read. Its plot is so infinitely small that it is not worth mentioning. I have read all of the Newbery Medals up till 2002, and although some haven't been that good, this one takes the cake for the worst (Even compared to "M.C. Higgens the Great). Personally, I'm glad it is finally out of print, and I would never suggest it to anyone. Of course, it is an alternative to counting sheep...but never mind.

A wonderful book to share with children
I do not agree with the review given by Horn. This is a gentle story told with compassion and respect. It does not degrade the Dine nor their culture. Laura Armer respected the Dine and, in turn, was respected by them. They called her "the woman who wears turquiose" (she wore turquiose long before it was popular to do so) and "hard-working woman." This story can be appreciated by children who have secret places and are in awe of the beauty and wonder of nature. There is a magic quality to it that supports many children's belief in the mystical realms. I read it to my son when he was seven and we both loved it. I think it might even encourage some to find out more about the Dine people and their culture and beliefs. I suppose the reaction of the Dine characters when they are in the city could be taken as demeaning by those looking for that particular view. However, these people's lives were based on relating, daily, to important life issues, not the non-essential elements that abound in city living and the art/museum world culture - this could make them appear simple. Yet, if the situation were reversed, and the people from the urbanized world were put on the Dine reservation, especially in the 1930's, they would appear awkward, superficial, and "illiterate" in the ways of survival. I would recommend this book to anyone.

THE MYSTICAL AUTHOR
I exchanged about a hundred letters with Armer before her death. From her unpublished manuscripts I edited 10 chapters of her Navajoland adventures for Desert Magazine. These chapters were then published as "In Navajoland." She shared many mystical insights with me and a credo which I cherish: "I will walk with fate / And thus compel / The jade to go my way. / A jackal falling down a well said, / "Here I camp today." I have in my living room the large canvas Armer painted called "The Shepherdess," a scene described in one of her books. I welcome any comment on Armer.

If you're thinking The Room, move on
After Requiem for a Dream, I thought the Room would be a good book to read. I was expecting an emotionally disturbing, but thought provocking book, much like Requiem, but the Room was not like the well know Selby novel. Room is a wandering and discusiting book, with discriptions of rape and tourute that seem to come from the mind of a sick and twisted man. Unlike Requiem for a Dream, Selby is not shocking yet intriging, in the Room, Selby is just sick. The plot is weak, and there is no sticking moral message in the book. It was promising at first, but left me very disapointed. I highly recomend not reading this book.

Writing is good therapy...
but not always a good book. The room, has an interesting premise, maybe for a short story. But for a novel it gets tiring quick. It doesn't seem to have much of a point other than to offer up two different fantasies of an inmate: one very violent and disturbing, then other benevolent. Whatever, they both get old. Some of the writing is the most disturbing I've ever read, which is fine, if it has a point. I don't believe it does. I have read two other Selby books, Last Exit and Requiem.. both are far superior to Room, Requiem is a masterpiece! So if you haven't read any selby go to one of those two first.

I Have Mixed Feelings
On the one hand this book does a pretty good job delving into the tedium that a prisoner must experience and it does a pretty good job exploring in a realistic manner the fantasies in which a criminal pyschopathic personality might engage. But to tell the truth, I got bored with the book. Maybe that's one of the points--incarceration in not an exciting thing.

Basically, the main character, the prisoner, engages in two alternating fantasies. In the first, he dreams about using his intellect to blow the cover off of the corrupt law enforcement system. In his mind he becomes the hero of the oppressed and the hero of reformers making it all the way to capital hill to regale the senate with his misfortunes. I don't doubt that many criminals engage in self-deceptive ego trips, but after 10 or so pages of redundant self-aggrandizement the reader gets the idea. The second line of fantasies involves the brutal torture of the two police officers that arrested the prisoner. In his mind he dehumanizes the policemen in almost every way imaginable. Again, I don't doubt that many convicts engage in this manner of perverse self-pleasure, but it does get somewhat monotonous as every last detail of the gruesome fantasies are laid out time and time again.

This was my first Selby book and it is obvious that he is a talented writer. I am going to give his other books a try.

Eaay but confusing
I found the book to be an easy read, with the chapters being so short, which was a plus. I did not, however, think that the story's organization was the best. The way that the author went from her childhood to teen yrs to marriage, to include her journal entries to her dead baby, was a bit confusing. The author totally skipped over, what I feel were pertinent parts of the story. It was like having a sandwich without the meat. It's a good book, but I could do without the flashbacks. It should have just went from beginning to end.

The shattered soul.
Selah's Bed is a very concise story about a girl who experiences a lack of love and grows up a women who seeks it in the most primal form Sex.
She can't love deeply and completely because emotionlly she is a shattered soul. In reading the book, I felt at times disturbed and sad but never bored.
I like the raw honesty and flashblackes that takes the reader into the worlds of selah the chid vs selah the women. There were gaps I felt weakened the preciseness of the work such as, the omission of transition of selah after her abortion to selah as a married women. I found it pecular that her boyfriend did not seek her out while she was pregenat but then married her after she aborts their child. That just did not ring true with me.

This book will get your attention but it portrays I felt the stereotypes of black -poor and fast females that is overrated in the media. I read it but felt disaappointed.

A Sensual Read
This was a very deep dynamic book. The writer allowed you to go into the inner soul of Selah. The way she intertwined the past with the present was an added touch.
A very moving story. Thumbs up to the author what a beautifully written book. This would make a great movie!
