Does it get any better?
Wow, what a terrific book! Adam and Noah and the Cops is not only a great book for young readers, but adults as well. The adventures that these two boys seem to end up in all the time puts children in their places and pushes the question, "What would I do if I were Adam or Noah?" Being a teacher myself, I read this book to my students everyday and it was a sad day when we reached the end of the book. In fact, they asked me to read it again. "You already know what is going to happen," I commented, but they were hooked. I personally give this book 5 out of 5 stars as a teacher, a student and an avid reader. Enjoy, I know I did!

A fine analysis of the human soul and psyche
This book, like all of Zev ben Shimon Halevi's works, is written with a precise, scientific approach that will appeal to the detail-minded student of Jewish kabbalah, as well as non-Jews interested in the Tree of Life diagram. First published in 1979, it remains a very good bridge between kabbalah and modern psychology. Halevi uses the Tree diagram as a template for exploring various aspects of the human body, psyche, and soul. Especially useful are the many Tree diagrams which illustrate how the human personality fits into kabbalistic thought. However, the book assumes you know the names of the Sefirot (pronounced sfee-ROTE, by the way) and can picture how they are arranged on the Tree. Beginners could get a bit overwhelmed with all the Hebrew terminology, and might want to start with Halevi's more introductory "The Way of Kabbalah" instead. Still, this book does contain a glossary, and if you go slowly and take the time to learn the definitions and compare the text to the diagrams, you will find that it all fits together quite nicely.

Exploration of a fascinating figure.
Hamilton has done an extraordinary job with one of America's most enigmatic political figures. Representative Powell was a man hard to figure by anybody. A rascal, decried as a corrupt politician, loved by his constituents and vilified by much of the establishment.

Powell was one of the century's (I guess that is now "last century's") first and longest serving African American members of Congress. He was on the forefront of the campaign against lynching. He brought the moral imperative of the Freedom Rides and the lunch counter sitins going on in the South to the major urban areas of the North.

His position as a vociferous champion of civil rights (more than his indiscretions) led his colleagues in the House to try to oust him. When his constituents rejected this initiative and overwhelmingly returned him to Congress, he had to go the the Supreme Court for his right to continue service (even after being stripped of his seniority.

Great history, and great reading. A thoroughly engaging subject. Even as an out-of-print book it is well worth waiting for.

Cute!
A smart, pudgy, shy kid and a runty, underdog baby dragon form an unlikely friendship which boosts the self-esteem of both. Although I last read it about 13 years ago, I still remember this book. It's an exciting kid's book with a message. (Wish _I'd_ had a dragon friend when I was in junior high!)

Adam of Antares
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Starduster Press (24 November, 1985)
Author: Ron Ferguson
Amazon base price: $2.99
Average review score:

Blast off to fun!
Adam of Antares is a fun jaunt into the life (or is it the imagination) of a young boy who has the adventure of a lifetime. His trip to the stars is the kind of fun that young boys daydream about. The artwork is great, and helps us to visualize some of the excitement that Adam is experiencing. The writing is appropriate for its intended audience, while trying to challenge the mastery of new words for the reader. Get a copy for yourself, your kid, a niece or nephew, or maybe even buy one to donate to the library.
