The Christian's Guide to Guidance: How to Make Biblical Decisions in Everyday Life

I thought it was very disappointing
I bought this book because I was interested to learn about how God guides us individually (or if he does) through divine revelation. Jay brings up some good points but his arguments are weak at best. He emphasizes the bible as our guidance- and I agree we should know it in our hearts. But he offers no sound reasons as to whether or not divine revelation still occurs.

The Bible as sufficient and comprehensive guide
I will not speculate as to why the previous reviewer wrote what he did, but his review is both dishonest and inaccurate. Jay Adams DOES deal with the issue and role of special revelation in this book. He concludes that the Bible is a sufficient guide for the Christian. Please ignore the previous review and get this concise and inexpensive book to learn about the biblical teaching on God's guidance for the believer.

The Church and the Left

A book written by a communist A.Szechter vel Michnik.
Adam Szechter vel Michnik - an ateist and communist with international ties, former member of Communist Party (PZPR), son of Helena and Ozjasz Szechter (both communists). Anti-Polish as his father Ozjasz who was a Soviet spy and collaborator and enemy of Poles. *source of information: Polish history book "Rzady Zbirow 1940-1990" by H.Pajak, S.Zochowski, 1996 edition

for the record...
I am sure that people who searched for this title are familiar with the author and know at least something about the book. Thus, they will simply disregard the other "review" so full of invectives and right wing propaganda. However, there may be a person or two to whom Adam Michnik and his work are foreign. They should know that Adam Michnik is a well-known and respected historian, essayist, and journalist. He has spent most of his early adult life in active opposition to the communist regime in Poland (a great deal of it in communists prisons). He contributed greatly to the collapse of communism. After the changes and a short stint as a deputy to Poland's parliament, he devoted his time to the largest Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza which he helped to establish and now is its editor-in-chief. One can find much more on Adam Michnik by simply entering his name in just about any search engine (e.g., Google).

As for the book, having read it a long time ago, I may not be the most qualified to critique the work. It seems that after the collapse of communism the book would have mostly a historical significance. It does talk about the uneasy but important alliance of the Left and the Catholic Church in Poland during the communist years. And yet, it could also help to explain the present ideological and political divisions in Poland. I would suggest reading it (if one is interested in Polish affairs and anticommunist movement). But even more so I would recommend Letters from Prison and Letters from Freedom (especially the second one).

Clarke's Commentary
Published in Hardcover by Abingdon Press (January, 1900)
Author: Adam Clarke
Amazon base price: $42.95
Average review score:

Arminian
Clarke is an Arminian, that is he denies the doctrines of protestant reformed theology as taught by Luther, Calvin and all the great names of the protestant reformation. As such, I can't recommend this biased work to the church.

scholarship made easy
This is better than hot stuff just off the press. Written over 200 years ago, Adam Clarke gives us the benefit of his thoughtful insights into the Bible and makes them useful to us today. Clarke, an original Methodist preacher who lived in Ireland, shares his extensive knowledge of languages of the ANE (Ancient Near East) as well as profund understanding of the author's original intent. Not preachy; just useful

worthless junk
This poorly written book contains little factual information (and what data there is is out of date). Very disappointed. I am setting up a Latin American company and have researched a number of books. This is the worst!

Excellent... a must for any business exploring this region.
This book provides an easy to read and comprehensive view of the business environment in Latin America. Everything You Need to Know About Being a Teen Driver (Need to Know Library)
Published in Library Binding by Rosen Publishing Group (September, 2000)
Author: Adam Winters
Amazon base price: $25.25
Average review score:

A waste of paper - a waste of time!
I'm sorry, but as a former driving instructor who has taught hundreds of teens how to pass their (UK) driving test, and as a former police traffic patrol officer who specialised in talking with groups of kids in the 15-25 year-old age bracket about how to stay alive on today's roads, and as someone who has now driven for several years on America's roads, I found this book to be utterly useless!

The only thing it portrays succesfully is: "Won't it be fun to be a driver" and, although there is nothing wrong with that sentiment, it would have been hugely improved by some in-depth additions concerning the serious side of driving.

In some ways, the book is summed up best by its own glossary. This contains just eight definitions, the first of which - quite mind-numbingly - is 'Aromatherapy!' The fourth entry tells us that 'Fatigue' is (quote) 'Tiredness,' even though that rather redundant point was clearly made in the section on falling asleep at the wheel. And a 'Skid' is defined as 'To slip sideways because of a lack of traction.' But if one assumes - given that 'fatigue' had to be defined for Mr. Winters' target audience - that 'traction' might also need explaining, this also consumately fails to mention that there are several types of skid.

'Everything You Need To Know About Being A Teen Driver' is no more than a story book; it even has excessively large text, in an attempt to fill extra pages. Speaking of pages, it only has 49 actual pages of 'information,' and ten of those are fully taken by some generally very poor photographs. Another six pages are taken up by third-person, short stories that are presumably intended to illustrate some points. So that leaves just 33 pages of generally rather weightless information, in large text. And how much does this book cost?

This book may serve to get some youngsters excited about the possibility of driving, but sadly it will achieve precious little else.

Great Book
This is a well-written and easy to read book with lots of information. I really like it and I hope that it will help me be a good driver.

The Film Festival Guide: For Filmmakers, Film Buffs, and Industry Professionals

good source; bad contact info
This is a comprehensive guide to film festivals, however there are so many mistakes in the contact information: wrong phone and email addresses, no contact info, or info for one festival listed as contact info for another -- that contacting these festivals becomes an exercise in frustration. I don't think all this is due to the fact that the pub date was 1998. It appears that the info was never correct. Ugh!

an excellent and succinct overview of festival process
I found this to be an excellent and helpful guide to navigating the film festival process. Most helpful were the pointers about how to save money applying for film festivals and how not to "cancel out" your chances at one festival by applying to another. Like with any guidebook, some of the entries will go out of date. That's why they should always be checked before you apply to a particular festival. Most festivals will mail you their application materials, so this book is a good starting point to find which of the festivals are right for your film.

accessible prose? nope.
Disappointing. I bought this book for its "accessible prose" as advertised in the publisher's description, but found it almost impossible to read. I want a book about Saint Aidan, or any other Saint for that matter, that is written in plain English. The kind of English a coal miner could comprehend.

A Clear painting of St. Aidan
A good book. David Adams gives us a good book on the spirituality of St. Aidan and very practical ways to apply it to our lives. He writes in a very nice way, a way that even my Ukrainian wife found easy to understand. I recomend it as a book that takes a great historical and spiritual man like Aidan and applies his life to ours. It is simple and stright forward, a good introduction to Aidan and his times. This is a good contemplative book.

Another Fishing Expedition...
I should have known better when I saw this title advertised with a positive review in Dan Poynter's ezine. It's not a bad initial reference manual, but any author who's the least bit net savvy will find this rather pedestrian. There were only a few websites that I haven't seen, and there was a good reason for that! This book should be titled, "Grumpy's Personal Collection of Bookmarks." It's over priced, extremely plain in layout, and downright childish with illustrations. Somehow, Poynter offers premium ad space to this author..!

For any book, CD, video or DVD marketing plan
In Grumpy's Guide To Global Marketing For Books, award winning author Carolyn Mordecai reveals herself to also be a rather gifted marketeer and book promoter. Here is a compendium of insights and advice that can profitably and confidently be incorporated into any book, CD, video or DVD marketing plan with respect to writing a effective publicity release for the global media; conduct a promotional campaign designed specifically for world journalists; create and utilize hype in magazines, e-zines, and newsletters; target international broadcasting networks; making foreign rights deals; locating international trade shows; networking international with members and personnel of publishers' and writers' associations, multimedia associations, vendors, bookstores, catalogs, distributors, and wholesalers. Every aspect of marketing internationally is covered with "user friendly" detail that will enhance any author, publicist's or small press publisher's promotion and marketing efforts. If you only have time to read one book promotion and marketing title this year, make it Carolyn Mordecai's Grumpy's Guide To Global Marketing For Books!

Great if you like TV, Otherwise a waste of time
Before his death, Doug Adams gave an interview in which, among other things, he mentioned that he was surprised that people wanted more of the hitchhiker stuff because as far as he was concerned it was old hat and not funny. With him I have to agree and one has to be puzzled why people would read such drivel as this. The characters, the plot, the story, the background, the atmosphere, the landscape, the tone etc. is just awful, with little or no redeeming social or artistic value. Doug said as much in the interview, but indicated that he hated the idea of writing more of this stuff, but he needed the money. You'll save your eyes and your time and get more benefits by sleeping than by reading this book-like-object.

One of the Greatest Tales of Our Time
The Hitchhiker's series is arguably one of the greatest satiric productions ever devised by mankind. As for Douglas 'hating' his own books and characters...well, forgive me if I'm a mite dubious. Throughout the books he shows a genuine love for his creations, especially the oft-confused Englishman Arthur Dent and the delightfully odd Ford Prefect. To call these books anything less than a masterpiece of wit is not only an insult to the text, but an insult to one of the greatest comic minds of the 20th century. So he hated his works?? Interesting, since he wrote little else. If he were to denounce Hitchhiker he would basically be dismissing himself as an author.
But all retaliatory remarks aside, this book (and all the sequels) is an absolute triumph of the ludicrous over reason, a battle that I wage daily. So treat yourself to a view of the Universe as it should be seen!

Makes preparing for the test a real headache!
My 13 year old son used this book to prepare for the COOP exam. The plus side to this book is it has "diagnostic" tests so you can quickly identify strengths and weaknesses and then zero in on the chapters needed to improve your grade. There is a ton of practice questions and hundreds of mini exams on each subject covered on the test. The book also includes 2 full practice COOP as well as 2 full practice HSPT exams. The book however, is ruined by very poor explanations on exam answers and no explanation at all on practice answers. The worst part is the answer key on many of the tests appear on the very same page as the last few quesions, so in other words, it's nearly impossible to take the tests (especially the diagnostics) without seeing the answers. Finally, the book contains at least 10 errors that I found and there might be more that I didn't realize. I would expect better from a name like Barron's. Great idea, poorly developed book :(

This Book Helped A LOT
This book helped me prepare for the Coop And HSPT. This book explains step by step how to find anwsers to the problems. I really do reccomend this book!
