Delicious!
This is a delightful book that encourages even reluctant cooks to try these delectable breads. Directions are clear and easy to follow, illustrations are witty. I wish I was her daughter -- I am!! I live in the mountains of Colorado and functioned as her high-altitutde test kitchen. Buy this book!! Even if I wasn't related to the author I would LOVE THIS BOOK

The espionovelists' novelist; the spies' spy
How Elleston Trevor (aka Adam Hall)would have laughed - so folks who bought this shamefully out of print classic also bought *JK Rowling*? Well, why not and God bless them and God bless the technology that can crunch the stats to come up with that one.

Hall's lone ferret of a spy is one of the great creations of fiction and I think this is the latest one to be essayed by Hollywood to fit on the screen. It'll be the usual fiasco, of course, because Hall's muscular poetry and Quiller's inner dialog simply won't translate and, anyway, it'll have to be dumbed so far down that it might as well be some hack ghoster providing the screenplay, which is probably what it will be.

Of course, you can't actually *buy* any Quillers these days because the publishers are incapable to keeping them in print, but that should end when the movie comes out and Travolta or whoever they get struts his stuff and tries to get the shotokan right. (I hope it is Travolta because Elleston piled such contempt on the Ron Hubbard lot in his lifetime that it'd be poetic justice for one of them to come an artistic cropper trying to take on Hall's elegant storyline and real flesh-n-blood hero.)

Good enough for me to write the author and tell him so.
This book is lyrical, yet full of the stark reality of life in Bush Alaska--and in this case, the raw bleakness and strange loveliness found uniquely on the Lower Kuskokwim River. (The memories I have of that place are stored wherever one keeps suppressed rememberances of lonely places in the mind.) I wonder if the spring floods still carry the dump down through the middle of town at Bethel

Almost As Funny as Seeing Them In Person
The Reduced Shakespeare Company is one of the funniest entertainment we have around. They have a great mix of intelligent and slapstick comedy, and never take themselves too seriously. They are hilarous to see live and to listen to!

A Real X-File?
I thought this book was excellent. The style was intelligent; the story within the realm of extreme possibility. Over all, a gripping tale, made all the more chilling by the suggestion that this is a record of an actual experience.

Relativity: An Introduction to Space-Time Physics
Published in Paperback by Taylor & Francis (October, 1997)
Author: Steve Adams
Amazon base price: $33.95
Used price: $18.95
Average review score:

An excellent introduction to Relativity
If you are a ambitious highshool student or a physics undergrad this is the best place to get started on special realtivity.
It is far less mathematically demanding then many books out there and clear on physical concepts.
(ch.1) Good review of classical ideas.
(ch.2) Need for special relativity, good explanations of
galaian and lorentz transformation, and uses of the latter.
(ch.3) Good introductions to spacetime geometry (the invariant
interval) and relativistic mechanics.

(ch.4) Good introduction to basis of general relativity and cosmmology.

One of the great things about the book is that it takes the common 'popular' accounts one step further by intoducing physics in precise languge and formulas. So that you can apply your knowldege to actully solve some problems and gain further understanding. There are problems at end of each chapter and they are (mostly) supplemented by answers in an appendix.

One thing that is left out completely is relativistic electrodynamics, of course that's only sutibale for a more advanced book. I would've liked to see the power of four vectors utilized more and see the role of tensors.
After reading the book you'll probably feel wanting more, I would suggest the next step is 'Special Relativity - Rindler'.

Great Read
This book is written in a conversational and easy to read style that practically pulls you into the the events described. Any one who was in Vietnam during the war, was a military dog handler of any kind, or is just interested in the recent U.S. or military history will love this work. You will travel with the author through part of his military tour, laugh, cry and sweat with him, and maybe, finally understand what it was like to be in southeast Asia in the sixties and early seventies. A wonderful and entertaining factual account.

great book
This is really a great book on respiratory care. In many areas it beats out Egan's RC except for sections on mechanical ventilation and neonatal chapter. It has an excellent section on cardiopulmonary diseases(as does Egan's RC)and a chapter on mechanical ventilation for neonates and peds. One section that needs to be improved is cardiopulmonary A&P, which was done pretty much vaguely(Egan's has great section on this area). Also the first section is just too long (important area, but not that important to be included in a major text; needs to be shortened from 200 pgs to less than 50 and use that space for improving MV, cardiopulmonary A&P, and neonatal chapters). This book also has great illustration in 2-color and basically it is a great book; mainly for RT's, but has many sections that can be of use for med students ,nurses, docs and so on. Highly recommend.
