GREAT CHOOSE
Schaefer has taken on a major task in reworking the material to reflect changes in equipment and materials while maintaining the thoroughness, attention to detail, and spirit of the Adams' series. I feel that he has succeeded nicely.

While a lot has been borrowed directly from the previous work there is also much new material and the format itself has been changed substantially. The book now opens with a thoroughly enjoyable, albeit brief, history of photography before getting down to business...Although targeted at a bit different readership than its predecessor, An Ansel Adams Guide: Basic Techniques of Photography, Book I is a good read and destined to become as much a classic as the original.

Interesting book on an interesting life
What I like most about this book is, of course, the photographs. However, this is also a biography. As this book chronicles his life, it presents relevant photos from the particular period.

What made me purchase this book was the fact that it contains many lesser known works. Everyone is familiar with his work in the national parks. Images of Half Dome and other expansive landscapes are pretty well known. But not all his work (nor all his BEST) was of these subjects. Such images as Boards and Thistles, Madrone Bark, Woman Winnowing Grain, and Leaves are some fine examples.

The text of this book is quite interesting and well written for the most part. There are some areas in which the text seems to jump around a bit, but all in all, it is an interesting read. Even if you do not have an interest in Adams' life (about which it is worth reading) you will enjoy the photography in this book. Also, it will expand many people's view of his body of work. It has definitely caused me to want to learn more about Adam's works and techniques.

A great intro to a great photographer
Even though this is sold as a children's book, it is beautifully produced with the full approval of the Ansel Adams Trust, and it provides an excellent introduction to this fascinating man who once thought he would become a classical pianist. Ms. Gherman discusses not only the events, people, and surroundings that influenced Ansel Adams's work but also his incredible impact on the art of photography and the places he photographed. This book is perfect for budding photographers and long-time admirers of Ansel Adams, especially those who might be a bit daunted by his very dense autobiography or his complex technical manuals. An insightful and interesting read about his life and art, full of wonderful photographs of and by Ansel.

Ansel Adams Postcard Folio is a Perfect Notecard Alternative
"Ansel Adams : Thirty Photographs : A Postcard Folio Book" is a paperback book with 30 of Ansel Adams photographs as rip-out black and white postcards. His work is incredible. I have looked for an alternative to standard notecards for thank you notes, etc. for quite a while. I have found it with this book. It's a postcard/notecard that I feel good about sending. The photos are beautiful, serene and soothing. I'd highly recommend this book.

The book on the subject, outstanding photography!
This will be the book on the subject for many years to come! 552 pages with full color/full page photos of the greatest Bowie knives ever made from the big collections. Not much text, very brief captions to the photos. Only 1,100 were printed, so it is very hard to find. Expect to pay over $300 for it, but it is well worth it!

Thank you
This book is a must for anyone who wants to know why our fathers and grandfathers and great fathers put on suits and medals and march on April 25th each year. Most of the men who fought there are now dead, but I hope and pray the spirit they displayed on those Turkish cliffs remain somewhere. This book will make you laugh, and cry, and having only bought it from a book store at Easter, I'm sure you'll be able to get a copy somewhere. It should be on every Australian shelf.

Must for the starters
A must read for archery enthusiasts, taking up the sport. The book lays out the basics, and something really important for the beginners, "common mistakes or pitfalls". Gives a good direction of where to go and what not to do in a hurry of taking up the sport. Very good toddler's steps.

archy and mehitabel are as unique as hamlet!
picture two characters who inhabit the newsroom of a daily newspaper only in the night hours in the 1920s and 30s. a cat who believes and acts as if she s the reincarnation of cleopatra and a cockroach who writes his boss - that s in quotes - who s a reporter on the paper. but writing comes so hard that it is, well n-o-t what is written in the - booklist - review in amazon s internet review. i quote from the review - the cockroach, archy, couldn t hold down shift and hit another key. - wronggggg.,.,., i quote from don marquis s description - he did not see us, and we watched him. he would climb painfully upon the framework of the machine and cast himself with all his force upon a key, head downward, and his weight and the impact of the blow were just sufficient to operate the machine, one slow letter after another. he could not operate the capital letters... - can t you just cry with pain as you picture archy, or rathe! ! r, don marquis, writing his material, any and all material , for us. and suggesting that many writers must suffer as did archy to give us their thoughts, their beliefs, their observations, their opinions, their joys, their sufferings.... b-u-y- t-h-e b-o-o-k .,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., - imagine caps, or parentheses - i can't do it, you see....
