A Very Entertaining Book
This book, which I found entertaining to the end, follows Arthur Dent journey through the galaxy. Earth is destroyed for a galactic freeway. Luckily for Arthur Dent, his best friend Ford Prefect, who is a researcher for "The Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy", saves him by sticking there thumbs out into space. After being picked up, they have a very wild journey through time and space. I would suggest to the readers that if you do not understand what Ford Prefect is saying, or any other alien, that you continue reading because it will either explain its self or it is not important. I read this book and the following 4 books in a volume called "The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." I would recommend that you either be prepared to have all 5 books or buy the volume with all 5 books, since each one leads into the next. Have fun reading this hilarious volume wonderfully written by Douglas Adams.

Long Listening Favourite
If these are the cassettes that my friend gave me (and that wre ripped off by another) then you don't know what you are missing. Ir should be the original BBC radio broadcast and they are even more hilarious than reading the words yourself. Great for the car, cleaning the house or getting stuck in improbability drive!

A true time capsule for hoosier basketball.
This book is a little short on words makes up for it in pictures. They say pictures are worth a thousand words and Bob Adams tells a dictionary full with timesless photos. Bob Adams tells of his endless hour discovering the crossroads of America in his search for some of the great pictures in this book. This book has many detailed photos form a yearbook collector Olin Edgell. As a youth, I often wondered who were the pioneers of escalating this great sport to the level felt at any high school basketball game. As a born Hoosier I can now appreciate Indiana basketball after reading this great book. If you enjoy basketball and have a taste for a historical capsule from yesterday, I recommend this book.

You gotta love 70's Sci-Fi
The Horseclan series contains nearly 20 books which were published between 1970 and the late 80's. The setting is post World War III America - a common theme for sci fi from that time period. No apes ruling the planet or roving punk rock bikers though...

This series is more like an epic, with numerous plot threads (some of which are related and some that are not), alot of 'history' and more charachters than you can count. This book is the seventh in the series and not a good jump on point for new readers. You really need some understanding of the Horseclan world to follow what's going on here.

This particular story has about 5 plots which all eventually come together (which doesn't always happen in this series) and are resolved. There's plenty of action - it get's graphic at times, so it's not for the feint of heart. The charachters are very interesting, but sometimes Mr. Anderson goes into too much detail on the backrounds of the minor ones, making for a little bit of tedious reading .

Overall its a fun read and fits in well with the other HC novels. The plot moves towards a somewhat predictable conclusion, but there are enough twists to keep the reader guessing. If you enjoy this series its definately worth picking up as an addition to your Horseclans collection.

How Much Fun Can Learning Be?
A great book for beginning readers who love riddles. Thispaperback teaches kids more than just how to read words. It teachesthem counting skills, too, and makes it fun. Even smaller children would enjoy this as a read-aloud. They could guess the answers to the riddle with a teacher or parent, and count together. The illustrations add to the humor.

Innocent not so naive
The book does a good job in describing the Innocent role in the Hunter society. They bring balance to the rest of gun slinging hunters who shot a supernatural at first sight. The book also very well tells about the Innocent's struggle when force is unavoidable. I hope White Wolf keeps up the good work

An interesting historical document
When this book fell into my hands, I thought that it would be a golden opportunity to compare subsequent history with what this author had to say. This book is actually a combination of two addresses that the author gave on the subject of Marxist socialism, or communism, as we would call it today.

The second address is entitled A Critique of Socialism, which he gave before the socialist Ruskin Club of Oakland, California in 1904. In it, the author expresses his belief that communism is in fundamental conflict with societal necessities, namely rent, interest and profits. The first address, which was delivered in 1913 before the League of the Republic at the University of California, I found much more interesting. In it, the author has hardened his position on communism, and shows that in practice it would produce laxity, inefficiency and waste.

I found this book to be quite interesting. The author, speaking from pure theory (as no communist state had been attempted up to that point), successfully demonstrated the weakness of communist theory and inadvertently predicted the fatal flaws of the Soviet Union. Now, does this book contain any brilliant insights that have escaped modern thinkers? I'm afraid not. Therefore, I would call this an interesting historical document, but not a book for all ages.

A good introductory volume
This is an enjoyable and basic collection of modern Polish literature. It is expansive, spanning the last seven decades of literature and also inclusive of the "canon" of Polish authors. The editors state that the volume was designed for the general English-speaking reader who is curious to learn more about Polish literature and history. A succinct, 20-page introduction to the history of Polish literature precedes the body of works as well as introductory info about each author like their specific areas of sympathy: pro-peasant; historical; denouncer of anti-Semitism. (Somtimes these author sketches don't tell us enough about their following literary selections, though). The stories range from 2-10 pages in length with a wide range of story types: historical, epistolary, experimental. There is one non-fiction work in the anthology--Zofia Nalkowska's "Medallions," her firsthand account of her participation in investigating Nazi war crimes,. This selection is not for the faint of heart with its' graphic, grisly descriptions of Nazi torture chambers and death camps. There are several other female writers in the anthology. Maria Konopnicka's "Still Life" is a sad look at the "plight of the poor man." Jerzy Zawiejski's "Cry in the void" is about one brave psychiatrist's resistance to the Nazi's abhorrent practice of exterminating patients in mental asylums. There is a nice selection of poetry including well known Polish writer Czeslaw Milosz and Nobel Prize winner Wislawa Szymborska.
