A Little Gem
This is a small book on master architect Fey Jones. There is a short intro by Robert Ivy (author of the 1992 Jones Monograph), a short bio on Jones that contains many quotes by the architect. Two chapters complete the book with the architect's own words on his design process and organic architecture. The book contains plans, sections, photos and some detail drawings of some of Jones more noted projects and furniture pieces. It is small book of only 94 pages. It is light reading and not a retrospective of his work. However, it is a beautiful little book for a great value and would make a nice gift for an architect or architecture enthusiest.

Scholastic Method
This book was fascinating. A real chance to get back to the Philosophical Writings of the Medieval ages. With this work and many works that will follow, a resurgance is possible of the Franciscan Philosophy. Fransican Philosphers have been very influential to modern day thinking, from the works of St. Bonaventure, Scotus, Hales, and even Ockham.

His work on human knowledge is superb, also the Unity of God. Anyone with an interest in Philosophy this is a must buy!!!

A Good Read!
Doc Morey's inexpensive, practical book takes a no-nonsense approach to operating effectively on the telephone. He gives special attention to people who perform customer-service and sales roles. The book briefly describes common worker-on-the-phone problems and offers a quick rundown on how to overcome them. Its concise format helps make it a handy reference guide for anyone who regularly works on the telephone. The specific, efficient tools offered actually can increase your telephone effectiveness, so we [...] recommend this book for anyone who uses the phone in business, especially telemarketers and customer service representatives. Supervisors might want to take a look, as well, so they can train staffers and develop guidelines.

a nice & original study of animal imagery
Picturing the beast is about the way animals are depicted in the media (cartoons, photography etc.) The thesis of the book is that such depictions partly determine the way we think about and treat animals. Picturing the beast is a highly original study and is recommended for anyone interested in media & communication, or the animal rights debate

The New Standard
This is *the* book for a thorough account of the political and social climate in Egypt during the second intermediate period. It is the first study to supplant von Beckerath's "Untersuchungen zur politsche Geschicte der Zweiten Zwischenzeit in Agypten" and takes into account virtually all of the evidence to come to light in the 33 years since von B's seminal work. My only complaint is that it does not treat any of the Nubian textual material which, although scant, does offer some worthwhile insight into the period. But, what can you do? The price is a bit on the steep side... which will probably preclude the non-specialist from picking it up. However, for the student of Egyptology, this is definitely a must-have for your reference shelf (assuming, of course, you don't have access to a good Egyptian-focused library)

Best Book on Smith
Cropsey has written the best book on Smith (it was written, to be accurate, almost fifty years ago). That said, it is also a very strange book. Cropsey concedes, at the start of the book, that Smith is not a systematic thinker on the order of Hume, Kant, Locke, etc., but he then proceeds to ascribe all sorts of systematic intentions to Smith that load more weight on Smith's "system" than it was meant to bear.

For example, he ascribes to Smith a consistent "materialism" that Smith nowhere explicitly defends. It would be more accurate and cautious to concede that in fact Smith was largely agnostic on such ontological questions. On the basis of Smith's supposed "materialism" Cropsey finds a contradiction in the very notion of "natural liberty" that is unconvincing.

The best argument that Cropsey makes is to articulate Smith's replacement of the intellectual virtues by the passions. To this cause Cropsey traces Smith's entire revaluation of the traditional teaching regarding the cardinal virtues, a revaluation in which generosity is replaced by prudence and wisdom disappears. Despite these criticisms, Cropsey gets closer to Smith's intentions than any other scholar. The book is well worth reading.
