Spider-Man: The Gathering of the Sinister Six by Adam-Troy Castro Quite simply, the best Spider-Man novel ever written. Adam wrote "The Stalking of John Doe" in Untold Tales of Spider-Man, which is one of the ten best Spidey stories ever, and he doesn't disappoint with his first novel-length tale, which is the best use of Mysterio I've ever seen (certainly better than Kevin Smith's overrated twaddle in the Daredevil comic). Adam does right what every Spidey comic lately has done wrong. The rest of this trilogy will be published in 2001 by BP Books, and you should definitely keep an eye out for it. I can't recommend this book strongly enough.

However, if you can ignore these occasional comments which are out of place and inappropriate, The Unquiet Ghost is a solid effort which worth reading.
This book can abruptly remind us of the generalities of life all over the world (i.e. psychological and physical abuse) when it comes to the terror of Stalin. The life and people around him he was ceaselessly suspect of doesn't necessarily mean it, his terrror, could never happen again, even on the smallest scale. Terror cannot be quantified. No, what Stalin did was and is as pervasive as any cult of personality.
This book decidely opens the door to many perceptions of what Stalin's terror meant, and sadly, still means all over the world. Ever carry your friend or your child on your shoulders as a joke or for fun? A friend of Stalin's did this to him and was later shot. But after this despot died, people mourned and when the new leadership came into being, the terror then manifested itself in the people. They basically reiterated towards the new order all that had held them in complete and utter fear of for more than a generation. This book documents this.
It's a book about how unstable people are who have been victims their whole lives, whether they knew it not, and how they come to realize life for others and themselves. It could be a book about life in general when we think of victims of any type of terror and suppression. Their messages to us could be of caution but on the other hand, of propagation, believing the terror to have some substantiation.
This book is a good read. But it requires a healthy open mind.

The exercises in Way of the Journal are designed to help the reader (and journaler) identify which forms are of most direct benefit. Some people respond best to Alphapoems, others to the Five-Minute Sprint. Each structure is presented with the opportunity to experience it as well as to evaluate its effectiveness for the reader/writer. By the end, you have a clear understanding of what is and is not helpful to you, the individual.
In Way of the Journal, Adams taught me about containment. In process writing, I had been afraid of the intensity of my own emotions, afraid the writing would go too deep, leave me undone. Way of the Journal taught me to "dive deep and surface," to come up for air at regular intervals. And also to frame the emotional content of my writing within a structure that felt safer than free writing.
If you are just starting, this is the one to buy. If you need some exercises to "jump start" your writing, this is a great toolbox. If you want a list of outstanding references, check out the Bibliography.
Practical, well-researched, easy to use, an excellent reference for writers at any stage of development is their use of writing-as-process.
It is designed to provide an annual plan ... not a five year plan. There is little in the book for advice in an ongoing buisness.
The verbage, however, is useful for any business plan.
Also, the book is well laid out and organized. It can be easily skimmed or read cover-to-cover with the major points highlighted well with excellent graphics. The sample business plans are very simple but concise and well written. Though they are not "real" examples, they can help provide guidance and get the juices flowing. Do not expect the book to make you a master of business planning, but as a tool to get started it is excellent. Furthermore, it can help you get thinking strategically and to get you asking yourself the right questions.
The only real negative about the book is that it does not tell you what types of formats or plans are appropriate for different types of businesses, and different types of financing.
Whether a start-up or existing business, Bob has done the "scratch work" for each section of your plan and provided a wide variety of pre-written text options for you to tailor to your specific situation. In addition, he walks you through every step of creating those much scrutinized financial documents, item by item, giving formulas when necessary so that nothing is omitted or misunderstood.
It has been 18 monnths since I used Bob's book to construct my initial business plan. The results was a "living" document that has served me better than I ever anticipated.
This leads to turmoil, and Mrs. Adams tells her husband to leave the mediocre paying job he's had all his life to start his own company so they can be rich and pay their children "advantages". He does this, after many trepidations, but the basis of his newfound business is a stolen glue formula from his previous employer. This ultimately leads to his demise.
There is a bit more to this story, but all in all, it is a story of class envy, snobbery, and greed. Tarkington's main point, however, seems to be that every dark tunnel of life ultimately has some other exit that inevatibly lead to light -- as even in the Adams's darkest hour their was hope yet.
The movie ending is the opposite of the book ending, which disappointed me, because I wanted it to be true to the book. Nevertheless, I also wanted Alice to have her dreams come true. If you really absorb yourself in the book, however, you will see that her dream DOES come true, just not necessarily the way you want it to.
There is also the beautiful way he paints the whole family into the book. I won't give it away, but you will see the intricacies woven in.
I found myself totally absorbed in the story and couldn't stop reading it.
Please read this book! You will love it!
