A Friend of Audubon , a great Natural History Illustrator
Another Beautiful Book in the Art of Nature Series by the joint effort of Merrell Holberton, Publisher and the Natural History Museum, London. This book focuses on the Life of William MacGillivray, a artist and ecologist who was one of the first to show wild animals and birds as living creatures inhabiting their own environment, rather than as dead specimens. This book is one of the first fully illustrated books of MacGillivray's art. If you are interested in the life of a friend of Audubon, who was a great help to Audubon in editing his Ornithological Biography and beautiful natural history illustration of not only birds but fish and mammals as well, you need to get this book. This book is not just a picture book but a interesting account of MacGillivray's life and work as a teacher, naturalist and orinithologist. Enjoy!!!!!

Very thought-provoking
Ralph Gaither's account of his 7+ years in a Vietnamese POW camp is a very powerful book. It is amazing that he emerged from this horrifying experience free from emotional or psychological problems. I have met Ralph, and he is an extraordinary individual. After meeting and getting to know him, I read this book and was in awe. What an incredible experience. This book shows how Ralph's Faith and Hope never wavered during that horrific nightmare as a prisoner of war. Very eye-opening.

A thoughtful tribute to an extraordinary couple
Ralph Martin, also the author of a biography of Lady Randolph Churchill, among other subjects, weaves a beautiful portrait of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in "The Woman He Loved". This book is an absolute must read for anyone interested in the lives of the Windsors. Martin extols the strength of character and the genuine interest in the people around her that made the Duchess such an incredible woman - he does this without telling a lopsided story - we see the faults and downfalls of both the Duke and Duchess, but the author's skilled writing enables such flaws to humanize the Windsors, when most writings of them serve only to add to the myths surrounding the couple. "The Woman He Loved" successfully gives a thorough portrait of the life of Wallis Windsor without resorting to unsubstantiated gossip to fill the pages. The reader will come away from the book knowing a great amount about the private life of the Duchess, both before and after the Duke, and a good historical context of the times and circumstances in which she lived. A beautiful book that is well worth the time to read and re-read.

Excellent Book! I highly recommend it!
My mother recommended that I read Women's Adornment. Wow! My parents were both raised in a very strict religous environment. It is very hard to know if dresses, jewelry, etc. is right or wrong. When you are raised that you cannot do or wear certain things or it is sin...what a heavy load to carry.
Thank goodness Ralph Woodrow and his wife looked deep into the bible (not just looking at one verse but looking what is around the verse) and sheds light on the context of what the bible meant.
I was not raised in such a strict atmosphere but have always had questions about why women have to look so different and men can look like everybody else.
I am buying a number of copies of this book to give to friends and family who are also perplexed about these issues.
It was so freeing to read the answers in this book! If you are struggling with the same questions....please get a copy of this book. I guarantee you will cherish it!

Superb Word analysis
An excellent analysis. He compares the different opinions of notable Word analysts like Moffat, Lightfoot, Wuest, Wycliff and more. He also lets the user know what the original Greek would say. His own opinions are hidden as he lets the Holy Spirit make a judgement of the best translation. When he gives his own opinion, it is good, his commentaries in Romans were outstanding.

only for Volume 2!
... has NOT adequately listed the Title. This is "Workbook...." VOLUME TWO
This is the workbook that goes with Volume 2 of Turek's "The Elements of Music.." - it doesn't have anything to do with Vol. 1.
Since I'm self-studying Volume 1, imagine my surprise when this workbook arrived. I'm now trying to locate the correct workbook.

*The* standard study of Vaughan Williams's music.
I've known this book for over thirty years. Kennedy approachesVaughan Williams's catalogue both widely and deeply, with plenty ofmusical examples. Since I'm a Vaughan Williams headbanger, a book like this is my equivalent of hagiography. Kennedy assumes (correctly) that Vaughan Williams is one of the major composers of this century, and not just in England, and thus discusses works in a clear-eyed way, without special pleading, emotional ginger-up, or hysterical proselytizing. He gives us the musical "facts" of a work and shows, in purely compositional terms, why it's wonderful -- the most convincing argument of all. I've almost worn out my copy through reading and re-reading. When I listen to a Vaughan Williams work, I usually have the book handy. A classic of music writing.--Steve Schwartz
