Witty and satirical
The title refers to a former priest who, along with an ex-nun, has converted to a new "religion" of sexual liberation. The two host an outrageous TV show proclaiming their new gospel of hedonism. To complicate matters, their daughter has decided she wants to become a nun. This is wonderful satire, and Ralph McInerny's wit is even sharper than usual. All this, combined with ingenious plotting, makes "Judas Priest" a most enjoyable read.

Intriguing religious commentary on America/Constitution
A must-read for all serious constitutional scholars, political science majors, American history buffs, religious scholars, and anyone generally interested in the genesis of America.

I found this book to be very enlightening and extremely useful in my personal studies of the Constitution. A delightful intellectual feast, it gives the reader a complete view of the sort of religious overtones the Founding Fathers assumed the American people would intrinsically understand, but which have been lost to many. For Latter-Day Saints (lds.org), it is a wonderful feast of knowledge, shedding light on many lesser-known facts about the American continent, the Constitution, and everything which is related to these two subjects.

This has moved to the top of my list of ideological books that have a foundation in religion. I highly recommend it to anyone who has any interest in the Constitution and/or America.

The best thing about this book is that once you are finished reading it, you will feel as if an entire world of thought which was previously unknown to you has been exposed to the point that it cannot be hid from you any longer. It really has opened my eyes to truths which I had not supposed existed. It really broadens your perspective on the stated subjects.

All in all, highly recommended to anyone who bothered to click on the link to read this far.

Excellent book and interesting read
Mr Dudgeon's book was very informative. It was refreshing to read a book on a somewhat narrow subject that contained so many outside references and was written in an accessible yet scholarly manner. It literally made me want to go out and buy one so I could appreciate the nuances of performance Mr. Dudgeon so carefully and thoughtfully elucidated. I highly recommend this book to anyone with even a faint interest in the history and development of brass instruments or the history of US popular music

What a hero!
Gervaise's father wishes that his son will grow up to be a Knight of the White Cross, and so Gervaise leaves his dying mother and travels to Rhodes. When he arrives at Rhodes he never dreams of all the adventures he will be undertaking, and the excitement he will be involved in. First comes the rescuing of Ricord and Santoval, after which the Grand Prior knights Gervaise and his comrade, Ralph, which is a great privilege for the boys. Some time later, after visiting the house of Signor Vsados, Gervaise mentions to Ralph that he did not like the looks of the Greek who had also been at the Vsados household. Ralph laughs at him, but Gervaise's suspicions are aroused even more when he sees the man talking to a slave of the Order. After reporting to Sir John Kendall Gervaise suggests he disguise himself and go among the slaves, to try to find out if a plot is being arranged. What will he find? Gervaise has many more adventures, and also a little romance, for Claudia De Forli bestows her colours on him. Gervaise also sets an example by the boy-galley that he was put in command of. It is the only galley ever to have only young knights appointed to it. In the end Gervaise takes part in the Siege of Rhodes, which was a bloody affair. Don't miss reading this story of a gallant Knight of the White Cross!

A well-rounded, complete starting point for antiques.
This is an excellent summary of the wide world of antiques -- from needlework to American Art Pottery, nails and screws to Carnival glass. This is not a price guide; rather, this volume summarizes the whats, whens, wheres, and hows of the material culture of our past. Especially noteworthy is that the information included deals both with American and Canadian objects. The book is organized by material: silver, pewter, needlework, toys, etc. Throughout, quick "expert tips" are printed in all capital letters, making them stand out. Extensive information on changes in style over time, as well as makers' marks, are included.Drawbacks: The book is somewhat dated, in that it covers primarily items popular to collectors in 1973 (the date of the volume reviewed). Missing is information on items such as razors, thimbles, needle cases, etc. Also missing is any information on ivory, bone, and tortoiseshell objects, to name a few. Regardless of these minor shortcomings, this volume will be a valuable addition to the library of antique collectors, historical archaeologists, and any others interested in material culture.
