A GOOD CLASSIC ON GRAIN TRADING
Some of the techniques obviously cannot be used in our modern times because of the volatility of the grain arkets within the last thirty years. However, one would findl certain tidbits that can be helpful such as wheat following with the price of gold and so on. Of course these things do not work all the time, but it could be helpful to know of something that work from time to time. Also you will find information about a doctor (along with the trading record) of how he made a fortune trading in corn only. This provides good confidence for nichers like myself.

Psychotherapy and Confidentiality: Testimonial Privileged Communication, Breach of Confidentiality, and Reporting Duties

Author: Ralph Slovenko
Amazon base price: $83.95
Average review score:

Slovenko's basic points are well-executed
While I agree with Slovenko's conclusions, I find the subject matter rather tragic. It is such a sad statement about human life that this is an issue that not only warrants disscussion, but also necessitates action. I suppose the world as we know it and live in it would have to cease in order to erradicate such themes.

It's Pronounced: Ralph One To Foresee For One!
This is the seminal work in sci-fi by the man who's editing direction shaped the modern genre, Hugo Gernsback, the guy they named the Hugo Awards after.

A future where everyone wears electric roller skates, has a number instead of a last name and cities have moving side walks... One of theose travelogues of the future extrapolated by a writer from the very beginings of the pulp era. The gadgetry seems almost Victorian, the philosophy seems dated, yet somehow you'll never forget this book.

I read this book in the early 60's and it was already very quaint and dated even back then. But somehow I've never forgotten it and parts of this book come to mind even now almost 40 years later. If you've ever seen the 1930 film "Just Imagine," then this is the literary equivalant.

Helpful for Somewhat Experienced Real Estate Investors
Real Wealth by Investing in Real Estate comes across as though it is a book for those who have never bought investment property before. I don't think so. The questions that Mr. Roberts suggests you answer are ones that are well beyond the capability of most inexperienced investors. For instance, he suggests that you decide in advance if you want to buy and quickly resell, buy and fix up and then resell, or buy and plan to rent. Well, I doubt if you will know enough to make that decision by the time you finish reading this book. There just isn't enough information there to make a good decision, except solely on psychological grounds (avoiding what you hate). Also, you are encouraged to create a detailed plan. Unless you've had experience doing this, I doubt if you will succeed.

The book is divided into four sections: Raising Money; Acquiring Property; Landlording; and Divesting Property.

I found the last three sections to be very well done for those who know something about investment real estate. This advice was clear, to the point, and detailed.

The first section can get you into trouble. It basically encourages you to go raise money from family, friends, and professional investors . . . even if you have no experience. Well, if you flop with what you do, you will probably not get the chance to do this a second time with the same people. Also, there are lots of laws about how you can solicit such investments, which the book doesn't really go into.

I suggest that you instead find someone who is already doing real estate investing, and find out how you can work with that person to get some experience. If you don't know anyone, go to the large real estate agencies in your area and ask them for suggestions about who the local real estate investors are. Then, see if you can arrange an introduction. There's always a need to have people do research, track down information, and work on deals. You can learn a lot by taking on these roles, which you will soon have to be doing for yourself.

One thing I agreed with in the Raising Money section is that you will probably need at least $50,000 to have a reasonable chance as a real estate investor. By working with existing investors and establishing a relationship with them, acquiring that sum should be much easier to do. Also, you will benefit by having a partner or partners who can help you think through the logic of the deals you would like to invest in.

Remember, we all learn more from our mistakes than from our victories. Be sure you've got the funds, develop the experience, and keep a strong stomach to get you through the necessary mistakes that will make you a superb real estate investor!

Amusing, but unsatisfactory
This is an amusing story. Kids will like the humor and naughtiness. However, the story makes me uneasy. There are seemingly no bad consequences for the cat's misbehavior. He doesn't care that he hurt another cat's feelings. And I am turned off by Ralph the cat being his owner Sarah's favorite valentine.

Nice examples. Good for those with existing skills&tools.
"Collectable" ... Dust cover photo is a fine example of rustica. Good examples throughout, though the focus seems to be mostly on the Adirondack 'twig & bark' style ... more of a cliche genre than a hint as to what REALLY can be done with 'found' and 'distressed' materials.

NOT a how-to book, but nice.

The story of World War II refugees in America
Remarque, best known for "All Quiet On the Western Front", tells the story of Ross (or Roger), a refugee from Germany who arrives in the United States to find a new life. Written in the first person, the story is primarily set in New York City during the final year of World War II.

Roger and his friends are plagued by memories of the atrocities that occurred. They recount stories of concentration camps, tortures and close calls. The refugees must also deal with friends and family who they had to leave behind. They also struggle to find work and must deal with the rapid changes their lives have undergone. The story also has a love affair between a refugee model Natasha and Roger. Remarque fans will find that Ravic, from "Arch of Triumph", is in the book, although his part is minor and is never officially acknowledged as belonging to the previous book (although the similarities exist).

I wasn't that happy with the book. Aside from the refugee's attempts at becoming Americans and their memories, there was very little tension in the book. Natasha's and Roger's love affair was dubious at best and they seemed to be an odd combination. However, Remarque's brilliant and insightful dialogue saved the book.

Good short stories
Five of HG Wells short stories read by Ralph Cosham, who sounds like Michael Redgrave. He reads each short story, unabridged, but doesn't modulate his voice to indicate when different characters are speaking, so it gets a bit samey after a while,, especially when he's doing a dialog between two characters and there are no 'he saids, she saids' to help it along. The Strange Orchid: tells of the macabre appetite of an exotic plant. The Truth About Pyecraft: explains why an overbearing fat man wears lead underwear Man Who Could Work Miracles: recounts the problems ofdefying nature. The Purple Pileus: deals with a life-altering fungus Aepyornis Island: a man has a special relationship with a prehistoric bird.

Informative, yet slow read.
An excellent, thoughroughly researched and well indexed tome on the history of the Chinese propensity for intelligence collection at all levels. This book combined with "Chinese Intelligence Operations" by Nicholas Eftimiades provides valuable insight into one of the worlds most populus, yet fairly closed societies. With tensions in Asia in a constant state of flux this book is a must read for intelligence professionals and enthusiasts alike. The only drawback is the author's style, which makes for some dry stretches, still worth the money.
