Waterblind: Selected Poems

an uneven collection
Of the group of poets that studied under Miller Williams in the 70s, Adamo is my least favorite of the group. There were several good poems in the collection (and I think "Old Numbers" and especially "My Answer" are among the finest contemporary poems), but I found most of the poems to mediocre or just didn't make any sense.

The Welfare State in Israel: The Evolution of Social Security Policy and Practice (Westview Special Studies on the Middle East)

For experts on Israel only
This social welfare study does a decent job of critiquing the local system. It is only for those already knowledgeable though about Israeli history and society. Being only semi-informed, I was lost for much of the work, and I think most other Americans would be similarily confused.

If you actually need information don't bother
But if you like to listen to pointless blather then go for it. Completely amature. Too many topics for a 78 page book (using a small 8.5"x5" format w/ 12 point double spaced type, followed by another 20 page catalog adendum), with all posibly usefull chapters ultimately refering to other publications by the same self published (Kinko's style) author. Goes to show I get what I pay for. You will too. Skip it. My copy was thrown away in disgust.

Burners Understanding Maintaining and Using Burners
From the title I was expecting a more technical book than what I received. Was looking more for designs and engineering rather than general information this book gives.

Only used because of kickbacks to Chemistry departments!
This is the POOREST excuse for a general chemistry book I've ever seen! If I could rate it NEGATIVE stars I would! Every moment with this book is a nightmare! The only reason the publisher is able to unload it is because Chemistry departments get a KICKBACK from the publisher for requiring it! Without the kickback from the publisher, this JOKE for a chemistry book would fade away into oblivion! AVOID THIS BOOK AT ALL COSTS! If your school requires it, find somewhere else to take chemistry!

Not teachable
I attempted to teach from this book last year. It's HORRIBLE! The explanations are utterly lacking and confusing at best. The problems at the end of the chapter may as well be missing. A student cannot learn from them, especially one struggling with the basics. Given the choice, buy another one!

Fine
This book is fine. It suffers because it is, after all, a general chemistry text. It does a fine job at explaining all of the basics you need for understanding the principles of chemistry. The chapters about metals at the end are a little too condensed, but the first twenty chapters are well written. Just remember that this is a *general* chemistry text. By 2nd year, you will learn that most of what is written in this book is an approximation...

Easter: Is It Pagan?

The Absolute WORST Book I have EVER Read
I picked up this book looking for a good Pagan read, since I've been trying to find anything on the subject for months. Anyone who wants an intelligent, fact-based, proven study of Pagan traditions versus Xtian ones, DO NOT GET THIS BOOK! I borrowed this book from a friend and I am exceptionally glad I didn't waste my or my parents' money trying to find it and buy it. This book, if it's possible, depicts Paganism in a more fluffy, Hollywood-like version than Silver RavenWolf herself.

Factual History?
While Mr. Woodrow demonstrates a great deal of enthusiasm for his work, he should increase his knowledge base to topics beyond the contents of the King James version of the Bible. First of all, the author touts Bede as the primary source connecting Eostre (an Anglo-Saxon Goddess) to the spring ritual of Easter. He then goes on to discredit Bede because Snorri Sturlson (from around 400 years later and in a completely different country) doesn't mention this in his overview of NORSE religion. This is problematic for Mr. Woodrow as he is so ill informed, that he conflates the Norse and Anglo-Saxon (Pagan) religions. Not only are these two systems separate, but Bede is the PRIMARY source for knowledge about the Anglo-Saxon language (also known as Old English)and peoples. Not only is Bede familiar with the meanings of Anglo-Saxon words, he was a Christian scholar who was familiar with contemporary church practice. When a source such as Bede states that Easter is a Pagan ritual it will take a solid scholarly argument to disprove it. Mr. Woodrow does not provide that argument. He conveniently omits the implications of Pope Gregory's (the Great) statement that, "they should let them drink milk before they have meat" in his policy toward conversion of Anglo-Saxon Pagan peoples to Christianity. It was Gregory's plan to allow non-Christian festivals to continue, but to alter them to provide more Christian content. This is not to say that Christians shouldn't particpate in Easter celebrations, even the Pagans were celebrating the resurrection of the land (Springtime). Afterall, each person will experience the holiday based on their own interpretation of the symbology. Unfortunately, all Mr. Woodrow wants to do is slander Pagan religions (claiming that they are SOOO evil) and that any of their symbols would, thus, be evil too. By slight of hand, he sanitizes the holiday, thus, making it safe for the unthinking masses. As he states on the back cover "Mythology is not a substitute for factual history", that goes for Christian mythology as well. If he would actually research his topics beyond the confines of his Bible, he might learn something about how facts are determined in historical scholarship. As for his unfounded remarks on the concepts of Pagan religions, apparently he missed the passage in the Bible that states "Thou shalt not bear false witness..." In short, it is an unscholarly work by a peddler of religious stereotypes; not worth the paper or ink it was printed with.

Better Off Unread
A cacophony of bizarre characters and ideas, lumped together in a mishmash that gets worse with every page. NOT a cozy by my definition. I admit to not being able to not finish the book, not only was I disengaged from every single one of the characters, there were such a multitude of inaccuracies and improbabilities that I am labeling this ... Better Off Unread.

For lawyers only. The average reader should not buy this!!!
The table of contents posted and the fact that this book is being offered on Amazon.com led me to believe that this book would help me as a businessperson understand various aspects of copyright. I have found it a colossal waste of money, and I am returning it today. Be warned: this book is for lawyers only. It is nothing but an incomprehensible (to non-lawyers) bunch of actual case findings. No english here. If you aren't a lawyer, don't buy this!

Some articles have been forgotten; some deserve it...
I reviewed this book for Library Journal a few months ago, and upon further consideration, I still consider it to be a waste of valuable timber resources. _The Sportsman_ was "published by wealthy men for their wealthy readers," and the snobbish tone of many of the articles will rankle a modern day reader.

Buy it as a historical curiosity if you must, but you'll be disappointed in how little useful information this book contains.
