Hanson and Doctor are noted for their return

Amanda Granger pleads with her spouse Jason to listen to her as she tries to explain that she is pregnant. Jason shrugs her condition off by saying pregnancy is not on their current agenda and begins to drive to a business meeting in another city. While driving in his fancy Corvette, Jason angers another driver, Sonny Houston, who beats him up in a nearby rest stop, sending him to a hospital. While still recuperating in the hospital, Jason soon learns that his mistress Blair Lawton is pregnant too.

Meanwhile, Amanda does not like the way Jason has recently behaved even before the accident. She hires Willy Hanson, who loves being a private investigator, even if most of his work involves matrimonial cheating. She wants him to catch her spouse (what else would she hire a Willy for) cheating. This seems to be an easy case to accomplish since Jason does have a mistress. However, Willy's simple case becomes complicated when Sonny cannot release his road rage, planning to make Jason his personal tackling dummy.

FAST LANE, the sixth Hanson mysteries, is a 90 MPH plot that stars a likable lead protagonist (and his equally enjoyable partner). The story line moves at the pace of a SST. Though most of the cast offers no redeeming values, leaving little reader empathy for any of them, Hanson remains a character of note whom readers will still adore. Not quite at the level of some of his previous novels, Ralph Arnote still writes an original, non-stop thriller.

A Field Guide to Coastal Wetland Plants of the Northeastern United States
Published in Paperback by Univ. of Massachusetts Press (April, 1987)
Authors: Ralph W. Tiner and Abigail Rorer
Amazon base price: $10.95
Used price: $38.71
Average review score:

Very useful manual for coastal wetland plants:
Sections include:
-Coastal Wetland Ecology: A General Overview (different tidal wetland habitats, their description and characteristics, & typical species of each)
-Identification of Coastal Wetland Plants (keyed system, easy to use diagnostic keys)
-WETLAND PLANT DESCRIPTIONS and ILLUSTRATIONS (this is over half the book, organized by environment: Each entry with name, common and scientific names, family, full description, habitat, range, similar species, and very accurate diagram drawings by Abigail Rorer. Over 150 species covered).
-Places to Observe Coastal Wetlands, with maps
-Sources of Other Information, References, Glossary, and Index.

Should the author ever desire to revise or write another edition, I hope he doesn't change much, as it is good, but he might consider adding a few key upland plants which grow in extreme proximity to coastal wetland plants; these might be American Beach Grass (Ammophila brevigulata), Beachpeas (Lathyrus maritimus), Seaside Rose (Rosa), Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica), Bayberry (Myrica pensylvanica), Sea Celery (Ligusticum scoticum), Common Sow Thistle or Beach Lettuce (Sondus oleraceae) - but these are easily learned on their own.

This is an excellent, very well written reference manual, useful to environmental consultants, wetland delineators, and botanists. Get a plastic book cover to protect it, and use it in the field (or salt-marsh, as the case may be). This may be the best text on this particular subject. -DMM

READ THIS BOOK FIRST!!
Film Scheduling is the basic primer of how to schedule a film. There are very expensive computer programs that will help you in scheduling -- but you have to first understand the process. This book is written by an experienced, working, Hollywood film producer. Best $20 you'll spend. Cheaper than film school! Spend a little more and get the other books Singleton's written as well and you'll be on your way to knowing more than many Hollywood execs.

Filmmaker`s Dictionary Needs Adding Before Re-Print
One of the most handiest books ever to come out of the movie world. It is for the layman, photographers, the directors, the actors and the scriptwriters. Yet I found several words were not propperly described (like how to avoid Newton Rings, Focus, Why you use Dot, etc.) Other words were omited, like Airiflex, Composition, Contrast, Density, F-system, Key (length of background-film), Outline, Pantomime and many others. I will also suggest that under "Lamps" for instance to name them all, and under "Crew" to give a hieragy, etc. Still a very valuable book by all means.

Author's Comment/Note
FINANCING YOUR NEW or GROWING BUSINESS - How To Raise Capital for Your Venture

Most entrepreneurs think their venture is going to make them rich. But the reality of entrepreneurship, including the often difficult tasks involved in accessing capital, often dampens their dreams.

In our new book, Financing Your New or Growing Business: How to
Find and Raise Capital for Your Venture, we explore myriad ways for entrepreneurs to find and capture the green, from borrowing from or selling stock to friends and family to creative use of credit cards, factoring accounts receivable, and use of federal and state loans, grants, and tax incentives. We also thought it was important for business people and entrepreneurs to know some basics of negotiating deals and some of the scams as well.

This book is about venture funding in the real world, the world
beyond the snazzy offices of Sand Hill Road, the world where mom and dad and the guy who sells supplies on credit are the venture capitalists, the world most entrepreneurs really inhabit.

"For anyone trying to start or grow a business, this book cuts
through the complexities of new venture financing and delivers pragmatic, useful advice." Rudolph P. Lamone, Professor and Chairman, Board of Advisors, Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship, University of Maryland.

After the "dot bomb", the financial world for start-up and young businesses is different than the one entrepreneurs and business people have become accustomed to. Finding and getting the capital that businesses need is different as well. This book discusses 19 sources and provides a beghind-the scenes understanding of each, and tells the reader how to navigate through these financing approaches.

very insightful
"First the Seed" is a wonderfully documented account of the history of agriculture since the "discovery" of America. I found this book when I was doing research on threats to genetic diversity in Mexico under NAFTA and the book gave me an insightful lens to understand the problems that are occuring from the mechenization of agriculture and the patenting of genetic material.

Anyone who is studying food production systems must have this book in their library.

Fish in a Stream in a Cave
Ralph Maloney captured the angst ridden delusionial world of alcoholism in this marvelous collection of short stories, without the self-indulgent sentimentalism, preachiness or moralizing so often found in other attempts in this genre of writing. As the author himself stated: "A writer writes what he knows". Mr. Maloney knew alcoholism and struggled for years to write effectively in other genres but found that work false and wanting. He derived the title for this book from a quote by Jacque Cousteau, who found facisnation with fish he found that lived in a stream in a cave. With no light, the fish lacked any sense of direction and often spent their lives swimming upside down or sideways. An apt metaphore for the life of the alcoholic. Sadly, Ralph found his voice late in his life, which was cut short by alcoholism, and has left us a very limited amount of what is a rare, unflinching, honest view of the world seen through the bottom of a glass. This book is an overlooked treasure that will become a favorite for anyone who loves the craft of writing.
