Indispensable resource
This 238-page book is a combination dictionary and collection of quick tools and tips that every project manager will find useful.

There are over 150 entries that are cross-referenced by category and arranged in an easy-to-find alphabetical listing. What I like is the step-by-step procedures for using the tools, which are augmented by usage tips and examples. Another feature is the inclusion of obscure or archaic terms that you are sometimes hit with at meetings. The next time someone hurls the term "slip chart" at you, you won't be scratching your head wondering what they're talking about (and you can hurl back that since you're using earned value slip charts are inappropriate!)

If you are a professional project manager this book is both a reference and tool. Highly recommended.

Sami poetry and art at its best.
Valkeapaa's poetry is succint and heartfelt. It has a combination of feeling and nature. It examines the plight of the Sami in light of the "civilized" world. The art is evocative of the bleak tundra. Well done!

The best how-to-do-it guide to tutoring in schools.
What a treat! A book that more than met my expectations about how to effectively establish a tutorial program having older elementary-school tutors helping younger children. It works!

Comical look at the three martini lunch.
A hilarious account of a day in the life of a business executive in the liver toxifying era of the 1950's three martini lunch. Following W.L. (working lush) through to the morning train and back home again, one gains a new appreciation for art of the walking drunk. Many helpful hints await the curious reader: practice talking to your fellow lushes on the morning train; always grow a plant in your office, thus providing an excuse for a thirst quenching pitcher of water; and never, never drink gin through a straw or you'll not make it past the quarter turn. A classic.

Excellent book for antique tractor enthusiasts!
Mr. Sanders has created a book that needs to be part of anyone's collection of books documenting antique tractor power. Each of the 150+ photographs of restored John Deere tractors are absolutely superb and demonstrate the author's skills as a photographer. The original ads and brochures included throughout the pages are a nice addition, although the text is often too small to read in some of them. Aside from the grahics, the text is well written and the chapters are logically arranged according to the stages of John Deere tractor development. I particulary enjoyed how the book included both the history of the Deere organization and the history of the general agricultural trends that helped shape the company's decisions. The author has even set aside pages devoted specifically to address certain special topics, such as the arrival of the early motor cultivators, and the partnership with Deere and the Dreyfuss organization to add styling to the original "A" and "B" models. For those enthusiasts interested in detailed documentation of serial number records and such, other resources may be more appropriate, but for those of us who enjoy a readable history with excellent photos along the way, this book is excellent.

Understanding International Political Economy, with Readings for the Fatigued

Understanding IPE
This may be the best book on political economy ever written. Which is hardly surprising if you know anything about Ralph Pettman. The man is simply brilliant. Most political books send me to sleep within the first fifteen pages - I start out with the best of intentions to really concentrate, but find myself reading the same sentence over and over, trying to figure out the meanings of all the ridiculously complicated ideas. But this book is actually different. Actually readable. Each aspect of international political economy is examined from the perspectives of each of the major analytical languages, and shown in pratice in a reading "for the fatigued" - readings ranging from an amusing anecdote about a man's first job to a scene from Monty Python. The readings really do help you to understand the concepts, and they break up the sections in a way that keep your attention. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the ideas behind world affairs, and especially to anyone studying it.

wisdom and guidance for the inner path
I loved this book, and intend to re-read it. It is valuable for people first starting out on their transformative journey, but also contains enough information to interest those who've been on the path a while. The title of the introduction is "From Caterpillar to Butterfly," and that states the theme of the book--how we transform. The phases we move through during transformation follow a general sequence, although this is not a linear, predictable process. The author has arranged the chapters to reflect the general ordering of the stages of growth; thus one can see that there really is a pattern to what may seem at times random and pointless. This is helpful because the transformation process can be difficult, even scary at times--this book provides much wisdom and information for understanding and moving through both the good and the difficult times. It has an extensive bibliography and notes which provide good suggestions for further learning. This book is written from the perspective of transpersonal psychology and there is much in here about consciousness and how it develops. Although the author obviously has very high standards for scholarship and intellectual inquiry, the book is enjoyable and entertaining to read. I highly recommend it.

Life is "going up" to Eternity, not growing up!
I first read this wonderful book at age 21. Now at age 51 I truly understand it's deep meaning. A Bibilcal scripture that explains University is 2 Corinthians 1:3-7. It is what happens to us in life that truly makes us. A bump here and a knock there will serve as the shaping tool of our life.
