A new way of learning
This book helps us understand your inner-self. You learn a lot about how you really are and learn how to control new abilities. I would give this book to any women who wants to get in touch with a secret part of their mind. You also learn about history and this helps you to adapt what you've learned in your present life.

Animal Structure and Function
I ordered a used copy. The book arrived quickly and looked new. This text is highly condensed but easy to follow with great diagrams and pictures. I especially like the examples of how the body systems work in tandem. Not only is the language understandable but one can write a synopsis without too much hassle.

Valuable "reality check"
". . . presents the perspective of artists who defend the value of thinking and talking about art without diminishing the educational importance of the creative act itself. It thus should give [Discipline-Based Art Education] credibility with artists and also should help educators and theorists who work with artists communicate more effectively." -- from my review for the Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, Vol. 53 (Summer 1995), pp. 323-324

August People is a pleasant read
I found myself caught up in this novel dealing with the relationships among several generations of an extended family in their summer home. In fact, I read it practically straight through; it is like a high-brow soap opera. My opinion may be colored, however, by the fact that I grew up on Martha's Vineyard (an Islander, not a summer person) and was fascinated by the depiction of the milieu.

Explores sibling jealousy in a unique way
Here's a book about the first day of school that doesn't have the main character dreading her first day of school. On the contrary, Sarah is excited at the thought of making new friends.

But not everyone in the household is as happy for Sarah. In fact, Ralph, Sarah's rotten red cat, is doing everything he can to sabotage her school day: he sets back her clock, draws all over her new school dress and tries to trick her into staying home by faking an illness.

When Ralph gets the bright idea to follow Sarah to school, his antics get her in trouble and keep her from making new friends. Fans of Rotten Ralph--this is the ninth book in the series--know that all's well that ends well, but first-time readers may be a bit put off by Ralph, who seems just a tad too mean.

Rubel's chunky illustrations are colorful and bold. Her rendering of Ralph captures his true spirit right on the money...he's bright red with pointy ears and a devilish grin.

Gantos' book would be a good way to explore the jealousy that younger siblings might feel when an older brother or sister gets to try a new and exciting experience that they don't. Younger children might not recognize themselves in Rotten Ralph and his outrageous tactics, but I'm betting that parents will.

Basic Recorder Lessons Book 2
Published in Paperback by Amsco Music (December, 1999)
Authors: Music Sales and Ralph W. Zeitlin
Amazon base price: $9.95
Average review score:

Wonderful book for adult players and teachers
I am about to start teaching adult recorder classes and have looked through many instructions books. This is the best that I have found so far for the adult student. Actually, this omnibus edition is a compilation of the three books in the series (for C instruments), along with supplementary tunes--so it is especially useful for a teacher. (At least 2 levels of the student books can be purchased individually for less of an initial cost.)

Features that I especially appreciate are:
--the larger than typical music which makes for very easy reading (along with very clear and attractive layout)
--the duets for student and teacher at the beginning which allow the students to start right off making real music
--the very well-thought-out pedagogy that would be more attractive to adults than are many others
--the wide variety and high quality of the pieces selected.

I recommend this book highly and am only disappointed that there does not seem to be an equivalent book for the F instruments.

A good review
The Basket Case is a very good book. Those who like mystery books will love this one. It makes you want to read more. So you can't put it down. It was especially good when you found out why Connie left the child in the rectory. Father Dowling is very good at handling this case. This book couldn't compare with other types of mystery books.

Much needed improvements in Scale Trading methodology
As a broker supporting scale traders, I am acutely aware of the carnage the markets have wreaked upon scale traders during 1998 and 1999. Fessenden's book comes along at just the right time with sorely needed recommendations for methods that aim for reducing drawdowns and increasing potential profits. The key to success in scale trading, especially when prices are falling, is RESTRAINT, RESTRAINT, RESTRAINT. This book helps scale traders exercise restraint by buying fewer contracts at lower prices and in situations where prices are rebounding. The book has an academic tone, unlike the original book on scale trading. It may not be the best basic introductory text on scale trading, but anyone attempting to scale in an era of declining prices should not be without this book.
