Asks the question if a perfect day really exists.
I'v read this book not so long ago and I was stunned. It was like looking at painting being slowly painted in front of you. It's also one of those rare books you just HAVE to read more yhan once. I think it's one of the few rare wonderfull books I've read.

The successful day, the most beautyful daydream I ever read.
The successful day...as we will never find him. The question is: could we stand it?

Best of the Ranger series yet!
I didn't think the Ranger series could get any better than "Badlands" or "Montana Red," but Ralph delivered one up that's the best to date. When Ralph writes of the hard times and harder men, you feel the thirst; taste the dust; smell the horse's sweat and know the pain of catching a bullet. I hope Ralph's around for a long time writing stories like this. He has outdone even the great Louis L'Amour.

touches the very nature of the human conditon
If there is formula for writing a great novel, Ralph Cotton has knows the recipe. Justice is a fine piece of writing that gazes into human nature. Once again, Ralph Cotton is able to peer into the very souls of humankind. Both good and evil, while touching on good people who make mistakes. Page by page, he weaves continual twists and turns, holding the reader spell bound. The Ranger must try to understand why an old friend has been swayed to making a bad "judgment call". A judgment call that effects many lives. Highly recommended reading.

Covers a lot of territory
Antiques and collectibles covers such a vast array of knowledge, that no one book could ever cover it all. This book is an excellent resource for someone like myself who wants to get his feet wet. I covers a lot of topics lightly. They include: Pottery and Porcelain, Glass, Bottles, Furniture and furniture construction, Lighting Devices, Silver, Pewter, Tinware and Toleware, Clocks, Needlework, Jewelry, Prints, Paintings, and Pictures to Hang, Paper Antiques, Store stuff (that is what they called that chapter), Books, Music, Toys, and other collectible items.
I was interested in learning more about French Provincial furniture, and several other furniture types were covered-briefly. I learned that if you want to get a good deal of information about any one type of item, it is best to consult a book that specializes in that area. A short paragraph, or page or two about something really scratches the surface. Most likely the specific piece you have in mind will not be covered.
This is a great book for general education. After all, you never know what you will stumble on that is of great value, and is ready to be given away. I think collecting is a matter of, if you really like it, then it is for you. It is just as well to know how much it is worth, and where it came from, and how old it is. In a general sense, this book will give that all to you. A nice read for someone like myself who is not seasoned in antiquity.
A lot of museums, historical societies, and collectors helped to provide the information that is in this book. Highly recommended.

Well organized and informative.
This book offers excellent and basic information on a cross-section of antiques as well as odds and ends. It is well organized and easy to read. I started to just scan it but found each section I would begin, too interesting, so I would finish reading that particular section. Worthwhile for the novice and those who are open to picking up some new information.

Lake Champlain : Key to Liberty

North Woods History Comes Alive
We all know about Bunker Hill, Valley Forge, and Yorktown, but few know of the battles between the British and the Americans in the great North Woods Country which were Eastern New York and Vermont. It was there that Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys took Fort Ticonderoga "In the name of Jehova and The Continental Congress!" from a sleepy garrison of British Regulars. It was there that Benedict Arnold built his little fleet of lake warships and whipped the British at the Battle of Valcour Island. Only later did Arnold turn on his country.

The American War of Independence is only one episode in Ralph Nading Hill's sweeping review of the history of Lake Champlain, the critical gateway from Quebec to Lower New York. His retelling of the history of steam navigation on the Lake, and the Corporations which were founded to further its development, are at times hilarious, and are reminiscent of the story of the development of the railroads.

He also details the development of the Champlain Canal, which provided a direct water link between Quebec, Lake Champlain and the Hudson River, and thence to New York City, in the early 1800s. He shows the importance of the Canal, and later the railroads, in opening the markets of the Eastern Seaboard to Vermont lumber, milled from timber felled in Quebec and floated to saw mills in Vermont. Few realize that a substantial part of the housing in Boston and New York during the mid to late 19th Century, including the famous New York Brownstones, were built with Vermont lumber.

This is an easy, engrossing, and informative read by a master storyteller who made the telling of the North Woods History his life's work.

America's Early Waterway
How many Americans Know that the birth of the American Navy really began on a lake. That the sea monster inhabiting lake champlain, was recorded by samuel champlain and native Americans as early as the 1600's, centuries before pt barnum offered a reward for it's body so he could display it with his travelling show. Lake Champlain is rich with beauty and history and this is a definative history of the region. It makes a great read too!

INDISPENSABLE!
This is a major component of my landlord/property manager library. I was not surprised to find, when I purchased this recent updated edition, that it is even better! (I noticed more excerpts of code.) Nolo Press has a deserved reputation for offering excellent legal guides for the lay person

Leading for a Change: How to Master the 5 Challenges
"Leading for a Change" by Ralph Jacobson is like having your own consultant working with you. Ralph makes the book "user friendly". He presents the reader with a "bag of tools" from which he/she can pick and choose those that meet their specific needs. Mr. Jacobson has brought together sound theory on leadership with practical approaches for operationalizing change. I would guess he has been able to synthesize theory and practice because he himself has worked both in HR and as a consultant...he seems to know both sides of the equation. This book gives the reader some special insights into "what may work" and what won't in your specific circumstance. He organizes the book in a way that makes it a handy reference book...one you can pull off the shelf and remind yourself as to how you may want to approach a leadership issue. I would recommend this as reading to anyone who has concerns about how to maximize leadership potential...either on a personal basis or for your company.

Brilliant Stuff
Ralph Jacobson is among the very top thinkers in organizational and leadership development today. Working in Customer Relationship Management, where organizational change and leadership challenges are everywhere, I appreciate both the wisdom and practicality he offers. I'm going to make this book required reading for all my clients.

Little Fish

Top on my recommended reading list- President Osage PTA
I was elected President of School of the Osage PTA because of my dedication to education and I highly recommend Little Fish! My six year old son and my twelve year old daughter both enjoyed reading this book and it reinforced some important lessons that I have tried to teach them. Jacob, my six year old, is very small for his size and is the youngest student in his first grade class. Perhaps that explains partly why he related so well with the story of Little Fish. Sometimes Jacob gets frustrated because he can't run as fast or kick a ball as high as most of the children his age and reading this story helped to give him the encouragement that he needs to, "never give up." I am sure that through the years we will read this book over and over again. Chapter 8 even taught me things that I did not know about Trout! Ralph Moisa, Jr. was kind enough to visit our school and tell a story to the children. My son still shares that experience with everyone that he meets! Lisa Hader- President of School of the Osage Lower El. PTA

Great for young readers!
Little Fish learns there is more world around her than just the shallow waters of where she was born. Old fish, one of the grandfathers, comes to teach the young fish people how to reach a new place to live and survive. Will Little Fish try hard and succeed to reach the new waters or will it be too hard so she gives up? A great story about teaching those around you about the ways of life simply written for young readers. Ralph Moisa does an excellent job of using his Indian history to convey his meaning of the important job that "fore-fathers" have of guiding the young. Mr. Moisa also includes a non-fiction section at the end of the book sharing information about trout. This book relates well with Great Eagle, Small One, another good book written by Ralph Moisa with the same format.

Great for Teaching Writing
This easy to understand book is good for writers of all ages. I have used lessons from this book to help my middle school and high school students improve their writing. Fletcher concentrates on specific aspects of writing, like leads or characters, and uses simple but powerful examples that implicitly show students how to improve their writing. If you are using a workshop class, many of his ideas lend themselves to effective mini-lessons.

Live Writing
I think everyone should go and buy this book. It is worthy of 5 stars. This book trys to help you become a better writer by sharing some of Ralph Fletcher's experiances. If you like this book I reccomend you read Spider Boy or A writer's notebook. ( The book before Live Writing)

A truly creative marriage of History and Art
Prof. Stanley A. Wolpert, Professor of History at UCLA, writes: "Love and Liberation is a truly creative marriage of History and Art. Ralph Fertig's poignant love story is set against a compelling backdrop of inhuman oppression of Jews in the Breslau ghetto and their heartrending struggles to achieve dignity and liberation. Fertig's brilliant command of History is as impressive as is his creative talent in vividly portraying multifaceted human beings. 'Love and Liberation' is an inspiring and beautiful book."

LOS ANGELES TIMES lists "Love and Liberation" as fourth in its publication of Bestsellers for paperback fiction (June 10, 2001)

"Love and Liberation" captures a vital moment of history
Rabbi Chaim Beliak of Jerusalem and Los Angles writes, "Fertig has captured a period of time often hidden from the view of knowledgeable professional historians and lay readers. How life was lived at the early moments of modernity. Jewish struggles in Germany for participation in civil society were arduous and difficult. Fertig connects all the dots in an entertaining and very readable fashion."

Most organizations don't know they do this already
Very thought provoking and only after several weeks of 'mulling' over what I had read did I realize that the global corporation for which I work (along with many others I know)actually does achieve its competitive edge through these instances of creative bounded chaos--they just don't know it yet. Our striving to creative a 'long term strategic vision' is of itself an attempt to explain that which we do not know, cannot control or explain on a balance sheet. Self-awareness being the first step to self-actualization for the individual--the same would apply to my organization successfully navigating its' current transformation. Listening to the words of Stacey would assist enormously in this process.

Insightful, foundational integration of chaos & biz strategy
This book is a highly insightful integration of chaos theory with strategic management, a "must have" for anyone interested in "new science" practically applied in organizations. Stacey's description of an organization as a complex web of relationships in a state of bounded instability is brilliant. Strongly recommended for any manager seeking to avoid portrayal in "Dilbert" - and EVERY executive.
