Very elementary in nature.
Best suited for supervisory personnel with limited experience and limited education. Not helpful to experienced managers with some exposure to management theory and interpersonal dynamics. Too much of a "recipe" book.

Dr. Locke's Other Work is Much Better
I wanted a practical, principled guide to leadership. Unfortunately, this title falls short: it is overly academic, with numerous in-line citations and relatively themeless discussion of technical issues. If it discussed "the essence of leadership," I must have missed it. To the professional behavioral scientist, it might be useful, but to a general audience it is nearly worthless.

For a principled, well-written text descripting the personality traits of successful businessmen, I highly recommend Dr. Locke's other book ("The Prime Movers").

Dated content and lacking in focus
Like many of Gun Digest's titles, this book appears to collect a series of previously published articles that do not have a clear, progressive relationship. I am not a gunsmith, but was hoping to learn about the basics of shotgun functioning. This book was either much too simple -- outlining differences between SxS, O/U, and Autos -- or way too complex -- converting an old rifle barrel into a sleeve for a pump gun. Worst of all, the references to popular models are so dated (maybe 20 years) that they're almost useless. If "Gunsmithing" weren't in the title, I might feel differently; but Brister would still be the superior book on gun dynamics.

Invisible Man: Race and Identity (Twayne's Masterwork Studies, No 17)

Amazon base price: $23.95
Used price: $11.80

States the obvious; misses the less-obvious
This 125-page commentary on Ralph Ellison's "Invisible Man" was written in 1988 by an English professor at McGill. Its points (except those quoted from other sources) are all obvious and it sometimes descends to the level of summary. It also dismisses every extreme point of view presented in the novel by saying that "we", of course, know that lack of moderation is silly: no argument or engagement is required. A very poor work.

Contents too basic for an advanced user book
The first part (chapter 1-3) contains basic informations on Visio (belonging to a starter book and not to an advanced title). The next part is about customizing Shape Sheets and contains a useful reference part of custimizing Shapes: The one and only good and useful part of the book (you could get the most information from Visio help, but sometimes a printed version is quite useful). The last part has some informations about linking Visio with a database, but on a top level. As an advanced user, the most information written in the book you'll get from the Visio help or from trying out. The book contains too less boosting tips and tricks - i would expect more from this title.

Using VBA to go a step deeper into Vision isn't mentioned once in the book. In my opinion, this topics belongs to an advanced book - at least some words about the Visio object model.
