Dictionary for Music Lovers
I have just received my Harvard Brief Dictionary of Music and am thrilled. As an adult without formal musical training who is singing in a college choir, this book will be invaluable. It not only explains musical terms and other basics of the machanics of music, but it also covers such topics as music theory, musical works, etc. The entries are comprehensive, but short and understandable to a person without musical training. And it is small enough so that I can carry it with me to rehearsals!

An obliging and magnificently written mystery
Ten years ago Matthew Jade spent time in Coffin County Jail. He'd had a few drinks at a party, and lost control of his car on an ice-covered road. An accident that cost the live of his beloved young wife. From a one-night-per-week visitation program as a layman, Matt rose to become the jail's full-time chaplain, ministering to the lost and broken men held incarcerated there. When three inmates mysteriously die, Matt seeks to discover the killer. To do so, he must face his terrible memories, drug addicts, alcoholics, inmates and jailers, lawyers and judges. The Heart Of Matthew Jade is an obliging and magnificently written mystery which is as entertaining as it is ultimately inspiring.

Spring comes to Texas from the Valley to the Panhandle
Wonderfully delightful book about spring in the Lone Star state. The 50 chapters discuss indicators of spring from a personal perspective by the author and numerous friends and colleagues, from naturalists to housewives, and from the Rio Grande Valley to the northern plains, including the first dueting of chachalacas in the Valley; greening mesquites; returning vultures in the Big Bend; night skies and black-hawks in the Davis Mts.; butterflies and violets in the pineywoods; mt.laurel, anemones, Texas bluebonnets, and golden-cheeked warblers in the Hill Country; to singing meadowlarks on the northern plains. This book is truly a fresh view of spring, and filled with neat stuff about nature in Texas. Well worth the read!

Just the book for HF design initiation
It is so sad that the book is out of print. It is a jewel that must not be missed in your library if you are in the field of high frequency design. It takes active devices in such a way that all the mysteries about them dissapear. The techniques are basic and old, but effective to the extreme. If you will have a undergraduate course on HF design using an active device, this is simply the book.

A pleasant surprise
When I ordered this book, I was concerned that it might beintended only for backpackers (something I'm not up to). To myrelief, the vast majority of the hikes (and there are fifty of them) are no more than three miles round trip. Each one has complete instructions on how to reach the starting point and detailed descriptions of what you'll see. Our only problem is deciding which hikes to take in the time we'll have on our next vacation to Colorado.

I Found My Ancestors
I borrowed a copy of the book from a co-worker who turned out to be a cousin from about 5 or 6 generations back. This book is full of my ancestors. There are so many names in the book which I found I was related to. The Hudson River Valley is so rich in history. The book tells of the French and Dutch settlements around the area called New Paltz. It tells stories about many of the families and where they came from in Europe. There are a lot of facts about the people and their families. There is a genealogy section which lists the first settlers of the area and goes for a few generations listing the spouses, children, children's spouses, with birth, death, and marriage dates. I have ancestors in a few of these families. The main families in the book are Louis DuBois, Christian Deyo, Abraham Hasbrouck, Louis Bevier, Anthony Crispel, Hugo Frere and Simon LeFevre. The author of the book is a descendent of Simon LeFevre. The book tells how the immigrants came to this country, which wasn't even a country yet. It tells how they supported themselves, tells of the dealings with the Indians in the area. It tells about the houses. It tells about the churches and their importance in the development of this area. It tells how the French and the Dutch finally came together after living in separate communities. The index in the book is excellent. Every name mentioned in the book is in the index. It is an excellent research book for geneaology if you know that you have ancestors in the Hudson Valley of New York State. It is very interesting reading even if you aren't related to the people in the book. I haven't read the whole book. I have used it mainly for researching my family tree. I plan on buying my own copy because I want one of my own to refer to in the future.

The Return
Aware that Hong Kong had been confronted with political trouble for years, the fortunate businessman, Claude, has taken great care to plan his business activities as cautiously as practical for his new franchise in Beijing. It is his Native Chinese born assistant who tells him, in emotional persuasion, shaded suggestions that reveal an unproven plot to frustrate the business. Claude wants only to return to work. Moia's childhood confrere has been there, too, far away from her. He is a high ranking officer in Beijing's army and possesses detailed information about a disaster at one of her boss's factories which even the prominent local newspaper has overlooked. He takes the time to assure Moia of his connection with an arsonist using a brief dialogue, boldly if not recklessly characterizing Claude's business venture in the Far East as a house of cards that is ready to collapse. Moia does not perceive the political happenings as many business women have heard the same, with a sullen forecast of vagary and rejection. Her human ideal is a Lei Feng, a hard working and socially responsible citizen. But, at times, she wants to weep at once, without solace, in her mother's arms. Hong Kong, too, is characterized as the prodigal daughter who has finally returned home after a life spent in frivolity. As the storm of uncertainty passes over a city, so Moia knows her legal obligation will compel her to return to the Mainland since she too is expecting her first child.

Concise, yet comprehensive. Will fascinate you!
As with all the booklets in Muncaster's "Examine the Evidence" series, this booklet packs a powerful punch of highly compelling and abundant evidence that the Bible must have been divinely inspired. Excellent concise, yet comprehensive presentation. The booklet size makes the content quickly digestable (and skeptical friends may be more likely to actually read it.)

Witty, fun, provocative - everyone should have a copy!
This is a book I bought many years ago and will never throw away. A fun read. Relevant, smart, creative and reassuringly human. The author's wit and savy will make you want to read passages aloud to friends. Sadly, it's out-of-print. I can only pray that the author will one day come out with a sequel.
