A "Must-Own" for Anyone with Asthma!!
This book is an easy-to-follow discussion of what asthma is(in layman's terms, NOT all medical jargon)and how to successfully handle it. Topics discussed are such as: finding the "triggers" to your asthma problem (i.e. food allergies, environmental allergies...), making the most of the least medications, holistic treatments that might help, how parents can help their children...and the list goes on. Of all the books I have looked at on this subject, this one seems to "cover all the bases" without being too bogged down. A quick, easy reference.

A must for every Texas art lover.
The book is an excellent resource for the emergence of Texas art and artists. The history is accurate and detailed and color plates of selected art pieces is excellent. One drawback is that the book focuses too much on one individual and not enough on the individual artists. The book's strongest attribute is how it places the "Davis Competitions" or "Wildflower Competitions" in historical context with regard to Texas art in the early 20th century.

Today's Immigrants, Their Stories

fabulous first hand research
Thomas, Caroli & Kessner, seem to have done a remarkable evaluation of the entire immigrant picture. I believe every individual in America, today, needs to familiarize themselves with the wonderful information, and discover the lure that America has , as well as, recognize our country's role in the world arena. Too many of us take for granted our inalienable rights, and many more of us, probably don't even know the depth of these rights, to make them our own reality. I especially like the way the authors capture the Indochine and Korean influx, as they are very recently, one of the most visible minorities present in urban life. Read their story and understand the dynamics of their decision to make America their home. This book lets the reader get to know all people on a human level. Great Job!

Toy Story - Audio Cassette Tape and Book
My three-year old son LOVES this book and tape set. He has always loved the Toy Story movie, so I got the book and tape set to see if it would engage him at bedtime. It did. Disney has released another quality book and tape set, which stays true to the movie, and contains colorful pictures with a lively narrative provided on the tape. My son loves it so much, this is the second copy I've had to buy, as he wore the first set out.

A Sweet Story about a sweet lady
Betty Jean writes honestly of her childhood in the hills of Kentucky. She went on to become a writer-in-demand in Nashville for her country-western songs. She wrote of how she had everything life had to offer, but no joy and peace of mind could be found. After recommitting her life to God, it made a difference in her song-writing. Now she writes songs about the change in her life, her love for God and her plans to make Heaven her permanent home. You will enjoy this book.

A young girl must adjust to her father's serious illness!
When Jorie visits her father for the first time after his heart attack, she hardly recognizes him. He's no longer the capable, humorous, strong person she's accustomed to being with. As the days pass, her mother spends more and more time at the hospital and can't provide Jorie with the support she's used to. Even her sister goes away for a week to visit their grandmother. Jorie simply has to adjust to her father's illness by herself. Slowly, painfully, she learns how to come to grips with her mother's absence. But she never loses her sense of humor and spirited interest in everything going on around her. And she learns that even though her father is changed after his heart attack, he's still special-just in a different way. This is a poignant, often funny story about growth, self-discovery, and love.

A Very Kroll Christmas
Though each of the ten poems are titled independently, they work together to tell a story of how Junior Kroll and his family celebrate the holiday season. The poems vary in their rhyme schemes, but all contain some form of rhythm and rhyme. Occasionally, the rhymes feel a little forced, but they retain their humor rhythm well. Illustrated with comical paintings, the book captures the excitement and festive spirit of Christmas. The poems and illustrations compliment each other nicely and maintain the mood throughout the book.

entertaining and educational
My fifth grade class and I just finished reading this book together. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The pictures helped a great deal and enabled us to visualize what was really going on. This book provides a nice pathway to discussions on endangered species, problems of poaching, and how humans can learn to appreciate all animals, even those that we might normally dismiss as not too important.
