A fine workbook - worth the price!
This isn't meant to replace Edwards' outstanding books, including the classic Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. But it is helpful with its exercises, drawing tool, and current research. Don't expect miracles, but do expect improvement in your drawing skills! ...

A great resource!
I have loved every book that Betty Edwards has published, and this workbook is an excellent "companion" to those. If you already know how to draw and want to brush up on your skills, this book has some excellent tools and tricks to support you. If you're just learning to draw, it is a supportive guide. Buy it along with THE NEW DRAWING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN, and they will change your life!

Outstanding Resource for Artists & Would-Be Artists!
If you are taking a drawing class, or using Dr. Edwards' book, "The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain," you will find this a very helpful workbook. It features lots of new information, and expanded exercises and projects that will help to reinforce your drawing skills and abilities, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned expert. I also highly recommend the video of Dr. Edwards' actually teaching her class - there is an order slip in the Workbook that you can use to get the video. She is a gifted teacher, and it is great to see her teaching "in-person."

Bitter old Sexologist goes off on the world
Betty Dodson has long been admired as the mother of sex positive feminism. Unfortunately, her true colors show through in this book. It seems that Betty's many experiences have left her bitter and cynical. She speaks about love, long term monogamy and romance as impossible ideas and rarely acknowledges that any view point other then her own might be correct. She even finds the time to bash V-day, the Vagina Monologues and anyone who believes that marriage could be a life choice rather then a death sentence.
A large portion of this book is spent defending her former stance against heterosexual sex, yet even though she admits to changing her ways ( as slightly as it might be) she still can't find it in her narrow view to admit that heterosexual monogamy is a valid lifestyle choice.
Yes, this book does have some wonderful ideas about sexual positions that can greatly enhance your love life. Just please remember to take her militant feminism with a grain of salt and use these techniques along with your own individual spirit to make sex magical.

Sexual pleasure information without the right wing slant
In today's America, sexual pleasure that takes any form besides the accepted heterosexual-monogamous/religious model is mercilessly persecuted. I read the review posted on Dec 26th by the person in Sausalito bashing Betty. I got an excited glow in my heart and knew I'd found the right book! I bought it instantly!

While reading it I found myself cheering out loud over and over again, "You go girl, say it like it is!"

After reading this book I can testify that Betty does not consider monogamous heterosexuality to be an "invalid life choice", but rather there are real breakdowns within the model (that never gets any press until now) and there are other sexual lifestyles that are just as valid. She has nothing to be bitter about! She's just got the truth that's hard to take. I saw V-Day in Madison Square Garden and read the book. And if the V-Girls can't handle criticism, then get out da' kitchen!

Orgasms For Two is both socio-sexual commentary and Betty's guide to creating sexual pleasure. And what she taught me has revolutionized the sex with my boyfriend. Before, we were resigned to never having orgasms during intercourse. Not anymore!

Nuff' said! We love you, Betty! Peace! --Claire

Her best book yet
Having followed Betty and her writing for nearly twenty years, I found this to be her most concise and mature writing to date. She is never one to shy away from difficult, controversial, or Politically Correct topics. In Orgasms for Two, Betty tackles the still difficult issues of masturbation, romantic love, relationships, and Politically Correct sexual behavior with her usual no-nonsense, practical approach. Her ideas are based on decades of actual experience, both hers and those with whom she has worked, in addition to current research in sexuality. While not an encyclopedic tour de force of human sexuality, Orgasms for Two speaks to the core issues of sexuality today. Her refusal to blindly adhere to any party line, feminist or otherwise, lends tremendous credibility to what she has to say. She is critical of the Vagina Monologues and G-Spot orgasm fads, but the criticism is thoughtful and intelligent, not vicious or dismissive. Her criticism of "romance," one of my pet peeves, is concise and clear. As usual, she makes one stop and think. (Painful, I know, but good for you, nonetheless.) The description of her relationship with a considerably younger man is an honest and important story for every woman who plans to live past thirty. Having studied Tantric, Taoist, and Sex Magick practices, I agree with her that masturbation and understanding one's own orgasmic nature are vital ingredients to becoming an independent, liberated being. If more people had happier sex lives and a stronger sexual/spiritual connection, the world would be a much better place. Betty's outrageous frankness about sex and her sex life can be very healing for anyone with pain or insecurity connected with their sexuality. I heartily recommend all of Betty's works, and if you are unfamiliar with her work, this book is a great place to start. Good job, Betty Ann.

This book slights real human differences.
I read "Poisoned Apple" carefully because education is my full time study. This largely anecdotal book is a description of modern reform ideas in the setting of reform efforts by Betty Wallace in North Carolina. Reformers and reform ideas are overly praised in my judgment while the very real problems of reform are too often blamed on short sighted opponents. True believers in recent versions of education reform will find here confirmation of their views. More dispassionate readers will want to read more widely

Required reading for all civic leaders
As a university professor, I have been teaching leadership and learning for the past eight years. Throughout that time, Wallace's book has been required reading in our programs at every level of graduate study. It represents a microcosm of the broader community within which schools must exist. In a well-written case study, Wallace has presented a number of the problems faced by public schools and potential solutions that were explored under her leadership in Vance Co, North Carolina. Both success and failure are presented for everyone to read. She has exposed her actions, for better and for worse, for her readers to evaluate. This is a comprehensive description of what happens in a challenging community when school reform is attempted. This book should be required reading for every school administrator, school-board member, and professor of education, not to mention anyone else interested in improving the quality of schools. The book simply must be reprinted or published in a revised form with a follow-up report of what has happened in Vance Co., NC, in subsequent years.

A book that is required reading for trustees&educators
In Japan there is a relatively simple educational philosophy; through hard work all students can succeed in challenging subject matter
Ms. Wallace and Mr. graves present a compelling point that many American schools have established an assessment system that compares students to the average in district or in state test-taker based on the results of a bell shaped curve
The authors compare this to the teaching of high standards and benchmarks or the now politically incorrect term, outcomes, (OBE)
In order to successfully reach such goals children must progress at a pace independent of age, (grade).

Although the school district that I am affiliated with, (school trustee), is relatively successful in comparison to the North Carolina district that Superintendent Wallace attempts to reform, there are far to many students who are both held back as they await their class to advance or find themselves in high school despite suspect grades
Too often trustees don't know the questions to ask in order to solve problems
"Poisoned Apple" is written by "friends" of education and despite the title, the book leaves me with a feeling of hope
I found it in my county public library, (Kalispell, Montana), and I am extremely disheartened to discover that it is out of print, (I will call the publisher).

Too bad we can't pick our relatives
The reviewer from GA has the plot description. In this book Lucius is a businessman and Katrina is a book illustrator. I find that I dislike Ms. Neels' stories when the nasty, and in this one the sister is nasty, relatives are catered to. Not only that but Katrina loves her despite the sister's selfishness. When I read Betty Neels' books with this type of relative I just want to scream. If that doesn't bother you, give it another star.

Roses and Champagne
Back Cover: "WILL HE EVER SEE HOW SHE REALLY FEELS?....Katrina Gibson has known Lucius Massey all her life, and her childish hero worship has grown into a comfortable, warm friendship.
They're so at ease in their friendship that a pretend engagement to each other to teach Katrina's selfish (spoiled) sister Virginia a lesson strikes both as a worthwhile but harmless idea.
Yet as more and more people congratulate Katrina on her match, a mysterious sadness begins to creep into her heart...."

This book is especially pleasing because it is like a breath of fresh air while still being a satisfying example of Ms. Neels' artful formulaic writing. The heroine in the story is the familiar older sibling who has taken on responsibility beyond her years, and who has done so without hesitation or complaint and with grace, courage, warmth and humility. This heroine, however, comes from a family with sufficient money and has a longtime best friend who is the hero....and the hero ISN'T A DOCTOR ! :) The hero has of course seen her great heart and worth and uses his wits and his patience to await her awakening to her true feelings for him.
Though deviating substantially from her more familiar formulas, the book is completely charming and fun.

One of her best!
This is my very favorite Betty Neels book. I have read it many many times.

Interesting Period Piece
"Uniquely You" combines sound and thorough fashion advice with a weird, regressive Christian take on a woman's place. At times a throwback to the days of "The Total Woman", this book may offend some, but others will find a great deal of unintentional humour. If a reader can disregard the intrusive bible quotes, and get past the ludicrous chapter on helping your husband dress himself (no, this is not meant for spouses of paraplegics) there is quite a bit of good information on colour and style. Mind you, the model on the cover wears bright blue eyeshadow, so one might choose to read with a grain of salt handy.

"Uniquely You", by Betty Nethery :
I was most impressed with the obvious calibre of this authoress's character and insights. It is much more than a fashion book. The only lack is that it was written way back when, and it needs to be updated into 2003 color charts and the way women wear amkeup and clothing styles. This book is a classic, though.
The concepts are timeless, as is the general advice.
I appreciated the Christian influence of the book. Very tasteful and appropriate.
I particularly likes the advice about how to dress parts of your body you want to hide. I have not seen this advice anywhere else. She looks beautiful on the cover of her book, but blue eyeshadow is definitely out of style now. Also, no one wears bow-tie secretary blouses anymore either.

Want to look "real", but better? This'll do it!
This book is a classic for me. I now know my color season and style, yet still I gravitate back again and again to the only copies I know of...one at the library and one at my friend's house. Both are falling apart with use, but the concepts are ever new and fresh. I don't grow tired of reading it, even when I have to crane my neck to read the pages that have fallen on the floor. This book will meet you on a comfortable level somewhere between the latest fashion magazine and the way you look when you get up in the morning. And it will take you as far as you want to go from there.

My favorite field guide in the field
I am a naturalist guide for the San Diego parks department and the local natural history museum. When I carry only one book on a hike, this is it. Benefits: Clear. Great drawings. Light. Easy to carry. A great key. Facts on how the Native Americans used these plants. There are other books with more photos, more pages, etc, but this is light but comprehensive and covers a ton of information in under 200 pages. I carry it on every trip.

Nice Menus and Meals
First off, if you haven't bought "Betty Crocker Cooking Basics" buy that one first. It has much simpler all-American meals in it than this one. You will probably find this book to be the most useful if you are putting on a party because it breaks down complete menus, prep-time timelines (ex: 2 days before the party do ____), entertaining tips, and decorating tips. It also has a fantastic section on estimating the food requirements of large groups of people.

I do think that this is a good guide for any kitchen (especially beginning cooks) because it has one of the most easy-to-read formats that I have found; it is full of lovely pictures, techniques, and nutritional info. The best plus, however, was probably the fact that you don't need to have 50 million ingredients to do the recipes.

Ease of use
I received this as a gift and was going to give it to my son. Then I looked at it and decided I could not give it away so am ordering one for him. Very easy to use, clear cut..shows what you need and then the recipe in a clear, concise format. Many helpful tips throughout the book. Don't be fooled by the title. I do not entertain much anymore but am enjoying the recipes. I highly recommend this book to anyone.

Ugh... This is not what I was expecting.
I flipped through it to make sure it looked good before getting it for my son. About half-way through, I was shocked to find something like this, "the next year I didn't want to go back to the lake. The dog is getting old. He's going to die just like Grandma did." I was not expecting it and had to quickly change the words while reading it to my son. I didn't read the description inside the book, but instead looked at the cover and pictures inside. If you get this book, be prepared that it deals with Grandma's death.

Dealing with Death
There aren't many good books that deal with the death of loved ones - but this is one. It does deal with the death of a Grandmother, but it deals with it in a wonderful way - it shows the circle of life - that life goes on - and it is ok to be happy after the death of someone you love.

overweight, pedigreed home health guide
Following in the tradition of Yale's Cardiovascular Health Guide, the Harvard Medical School Family Health Guide, and the Johns Hopkins Medical Guide to Health After 50, the venerable Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons offers us this latest addition to the health-obsessed consumer craze for complete home medical references. As expected, this book offers only more of the same: a good name, a lot of pages, and a redundant course in layman's medicine. Given the sheer size and weight of the volume (lifting it is an exercise itself), you would expect the entries to have more detail and, well, more specialized terminology. The diagrams which accompany many of the chapters elicit more boredom than information (save for the psychiatric section's tables, which are rather good), and the overall organization of the book sacrifices content for accessibility. I've seen many home medical guides at the bookstore lately, and this one just doesn't stand out in particular. My honest recommendation is that you look past the University's illustrious name and opt instead for the MERCK MANUAL HOME EDITION (paperback version), which for its small size and affordable price is the best home medical guide for the entire family.

mayo clinic heart book
Very informative. I suffer from PVC's and try to get my hands on as much info as possible. I found this book to be very helpful in my understanding more on this condition.
