Complete
Don't let the price of this book scare you. It is worth every penny. If you love, like or just want to find out the facts of this star's life this is the book to own. I mean own because you will refer to it time and time again. I will admit when I first receiverd the book I was disappointed. For that price I thought it would be a big book full of color photographs. All one has to do is read that lovely dedication and you know you are in for a treat. The only thing Mr. Billman left out was how to request to have Betty Grable put on a U.S. Postage Stamp. I don't think he will mind if I give you that information. All you have to do is write your request and send it to: The Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee 475 L'Enfant Plaza SW, Room 5670 Washington, DC 20260

As much fun to browse through as it is to plan meals with
Pennsylvania German recipes are combined with Betty Groff's childhood memories as told to Diane Stoneback in the Betty Groff Cookbook. The delicious recipes are augmented with full color photography by Blair Seitz. From Cornmeal Fried Chicken with Herbs; Beef Pie; and Cream of Watercress Soup; to Baked Tilapia; Apricot-Nut Bread; and Soft Sugar Cookies, the Betty Groff Cookbook is as much fun to browse through as it is to plan meals with!

One of the best for down-home cooking
If you are a country cook this cookbook will delight you with many quality recipes. Betty Groff shares her life on a Mennonite farm in the introductory chapter which also proves for good reading too! It has complimented my Marcia Adams collection of cookbooks.

The Pike River Phantom
When Charlie goes house to house selling candy bars for his cousin Rachel, he stops at an old spooky looking house. The lady who answers the door claims to be "The Real Sunbonnet Queen." That is the title that Rachel is trying to become this year. Rachel looks exactly like her Grandmother, who won fifty years ago. Charlie and Rachel soon find out that that lady is really a phantom who will stop at nothing to defeat Rachel after Rachel's Grandmother beat her in the contest fifty years ago. Even if it means killing Rachel!

This Story Will Truly Warm Your Heart
I picked up this book, one night when i couldn't sleep. Hoping to be bored to tears so i could finally drift off. This is not what happened. I found myself staying up all night hanging on Betty's every word, absorbed in her life, and opinions. It provided an escape for a couple hours. I only wish it had been longer! This is one of my favorite books, and I would recomend it to anyone who likes to read. It is a very easy read, but a fantastic one. It may be hard to find because it is out of print, but i urge you to find it! It is a rare gem that people pass up all to often! They look at the cover, and see Betty White, then dismiss it as boring. But you will love it, THAT i can guarentee you. It will set your soul at ease for an hour or two. Just relax with some hot tea, in your favorite chair, and read it. You won't be sorry!

Help, My Child is Becoming a Teener!
This book was very helpful to a baffled parent, struggling to understand their budding teenager. I couldn't help but be saddened by my daughter pushing me away, after having been so close. But this book gave me some insight into her changing mind and personality. I was relieved to find all of her behavior normal and predictable. Written by a Waldorf High School teacher, it embodies much of the Waldorf educational philosophy, which I found fascinating. But this book will appeal to more than Waldorf parents, it has a lot of good information and advice for any parent. I highly recommend it!

Inspirational, even for a programmer!
I purchased this book for that special nursing student in my life, and before I was able to give it to her I flipped through the pages, and was inspired (and I'm the furthest thing from a nurse, I'm a computer programmer). It has a wide variety of excellent bible verses for anyone exploring Christ's love and compassion for everyone!

Through the Looking Glass
This is a book that forces you to look beyond the surface at your real self, thoughts, prejudices and preconceptions. It confronts and challenges your assumptions as in the essays about homophobia or black on black crime. It also reminds us that in many ways, African Americans, have surrendered our power and our history that could solve some of our current day dilemmas, when all we need to do is embrace our history and use it as a stepping stone to a more positive future. It's timely and universal and what happens is Louisville is true for America everywhere. It's not only a good read all at once, but like a favorite dish, it can be savored and enjoyed again and again.

Great book about growing up.
Cavanna is certainly a very detailed and careful writer. The way she handled the complex relationship of a girl and a boy who lived next door to her is certainly commendable.
I like the twists in the story which really took me by surprise.
Siblings, Love, Growing Up, Jealously, Rivalry, Popularity contests, accepting changes. A very vibrant storyline.

Not The Brady Bunch!
After thirteen years of leading a quiet life with her single mom, Carrie's world is turned upside down when her mother suddenly remarries and the two move into the noisy, crowded home of Dominic and his three kids, who Carrie has never even met. She has a lot to get used to, such as sharing a room with sullen older stepsister Ginger, changing schools and being put into the same class as nerdy stepbrother Newton, and dreading the upcoming day in family court, where Dominic plans to legally adopt her. Miserable at first, Carrie gradually begins to understand and accept her new siblings as they begin to warm up to her as well. However, she continues to keep her distance from Dominic, clinging to the dream that her real father, who she hasn't seen in years, will suddenly appear and "rescue" her from this family. This is a nice story about the conflicts that arise when two families blend into one. I read this as a pre-teen in the early 1980's when divorce and remarriage wasn't quite as prevalent as it is today, so it seemed much more unique back then. However, it is still a good story with well developed characters, and I recommend it for middle school aged girls.
