Fast paced, strong characters.
Rafe Sutherland didn't want to love the mysterious woman he'd pulled from the flood, yet his lonely heart would not be denied. By the time he realized how deep his feelings were it was already too late. But it seemed their love was doomed when a man from Jessie's past appeared to claim her. Before they could leave town though, the mystery was solved, resulting in a shootout that left Rafe critically wounded. Great book!

A toddler adventure
Plain Noodles was one of my daughter's favorite books when she was 2-5 years old. There's something truly enjoyable about a bunch of babies in a rowboat landing on a lighthouse island. The book has beautiful watercolors, the babies are funny, they get into some mischief --a great story that parents won't mind reading over and over again. This is a classic!

I desperatly needed some help in my new job remembering protocols, measurements, and how my images should appear before turning them in to the radiologist. This book has been a life saver! It's easy reference markers allows me to quickly find the subject I need, review protocol, and still have the patient out without prolonging the exam. A must have for new graduates.

An Outstanding Family-Oriented Book
Seldom have I come upon a book of poetry that has pleased me as much as this volume.
Betty Jo is a master wordsmith, a sensitive writer who presents her poetry as beautifully as a symphony or as comforting as a lullaby. Her poetry has natural progression and flawless meter. Her subjects deal with every facet of life from birth to death, the joys and sorrows of living, the foibles of human nature. But she always offers hope. "Inspiring" is too simple a word to describe her work, even though it was indeed inspired. I prefer "magnificent." This book rests prominently on my coffee table for all my guests to
view.

Love Exists for the plain brainy daughters too !
Cover: Working for Professor Sam Gervis was difficult enough, even if you hadn't fallen in love with him. But Polly had. Luckily she was realistic. Sam was engaged to the lovely Deirdre, and besides, he would never look twice at anyone as quiet and mousy as her. So Polly sensibly decided to get away and take up a new career nursing children. But she soon discovered that Sam wasn't a man to be escaped from easily......
This is another wonderful Neels story about the plain sister snatching the wonderful hero doctor. Of course, he doesn't believe in love at first sight right away, and gives a cold shoulder to our warm, hard working heroine. He figures it out finally and makes sure to hang on with both hands. The story is an underdog "tail" at its best ! :) You have the requisite wicked fiancee, the nice sister, and the family dogs. The heroine never expects someone to fall in love with her and goes about creating a lonely but satisfying life giving to others. By the time all the misunderstandings are solved in the end of the story you are cheering out loud. A lovely story that you will want to keep and read over again.

Excellent Prayer Inspiration
As a growing, maturing Christian, sometimes it is easy to believe you know all about a subject like prayer. However, this book truly takes the prayer journey a step further, for example, praying over which dress to wear and how that could even be important to God. The power to touch and change so many lives with prayer is very powerful and demonstrated on every page. Betty's writing is so good, I would describe it as an engrossing novel that is hard to put down. The overwhelming feeling of "I can do this too" is what I came away with.

The Private Regulation of American Health Care
Published in Hardcover by M.E.Sharpe (March, 1994)
Author: Betty Leyerle
Amazon base price: $82.95

Tour de force exegesis of capital's takeover of health care
I have read many, many articles and books about managed care, but Betty Leyerle's book is by far the best and most penetrating analysis of the planned and schemed takeover of our health care system by big capital. As she explains and documents, the motives for managed care's rise are both money and ideology: The corporate sector was frightened by Medicare in the late sixties and the spectre of what they saw as "socialized medicine," and managed care was their response. Instead of a health care system based on the medical needs of the population, the managed care system gives us health care based on a system of "choices" stratified by cost factors and controlled by businessmen. Instead of health care delivered by professionals according to the ethics of the hippocratic oath, managed care gives us systems of surveilance and business-style bureaucracy based on principles of cost-effectiveness and accountability. Leyerle's book discusses the rationales, and the history of the strategies and legislative initiatives that business employed to accomplish its goals, as well as exposing its dubious assumptions and self-serving claims. If you read just one book on managed care, this should be it.
