An Incredible Journey
An extraordinary story for everyone to read. A wonderful insight into the minds of people and dogs. The true tales of a young woman as she struggles with her heritage, growing up, racial issues and familial acceptance wonderfully combined with touching stories of her true love for dogs. You must read this book!

An eloquent expression of sentiment
The author gives a powerful voice to the often stifled voice of Asians living in strange circumstances. A must read for students of race, class, and gender. Very readable.

ANOTHER CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE PET LOVER'S SOUL
I am interested in animal welfare and Asian culture, so for me a book combining the two is like finding a gem. The way out of an inner struggle is unique as it is admirable. It's wonderful to know that other cultures different from mine, love animals as I do -- maybe even more.

i first read this book in the 4th grade, long ago, i have re-read it many many times and still love the story... is a very touching story with a happy ending, i have read it to many of my nephews and nieces............this is my favorite book in the whole world... and i have read many....

Memorable after all these years
I will be 50 years old next month and my sister just turned 60. Whenever we talk on the phone, we still discuss this book and how much we loved it. Sadly, our copy was lost about 30 years ago.

I'll never forget when the nasty little girl got the ammonia spashed in her eyes!

Wonderful timeless children's book
I read this book about 45 years ago and still remember how much
I loved it. It is a beautiful story, whose ideas, relationships, themes, opinions, and manner of writing not too dated (like Rebecca of Sunybrook farm) ... about 2 little girls whose only real desire is a loving family ... but more like Lucy Maud Montgomery's "Anne of Green Gables", the Stratton-Porter books like "Girl of the Limberlost" or Frances Hodgson Burnett's "The Secret Garden". For slightly younger children (to read to
Kindergartner's and up). GET THIS BACK IN PRINT!!! Betty Macdonald also wrote humorous adult books .. I think "The Egg and I" was made into a very funny move about a city couple taking up
farming (with Fred McMurray and Claudet Colbert? ... pre-dating "Green Acres").

An African American Classic
Expect Sunshine is a ray of hope for those in search of quality writing. Don't pick this book up if you have some where to go. You will not want to put it down.

EXCELLENT BOOK!
For a first novel, Betty Bush has written an excellent story about love, family, fear and the south. The characters were wonderful, the setting was perfect and it is a must read for all. I look forward to her next novel.

About Time
Betty Bush listened to the old people. She wrote it down and in doing that, she let the sun shine in on some of the deepest darkest secrets of the Old South. Betty's book tells the stories we've heard told around the kitchen tables, in the barbershops and beauty parlors since we were old enough to listen. They are the stories our parents prefered we did not hear when they gathered, and shooed us away.Betty's book is the American story about our connections to our land, and our sad losses of the connections. She finds hope and strength in the human spirit and she warns us that if we don't wake up, we will all be sharecroppers for generations. This is a "must read" for anyone who wants to know the truth about why we are the way we are. Her book is filled with compassion, forgivness and love of life; it is a relection of her soul.

I always get the latest edition of this book!
When I was ordering this edition of Gahart's IV reference book, I noticed that it was the 18th edition. I have or have had most all the editions published! I guess I've been a nurse a long time..... I have worked in the Intensive Care and Emergency Department settings and have always found this book an excellent resource! Great for graduate/new nurses!

Nurses and physcians be more aware.
As an ER RN, in my opinion this is the quintessential referance for anyone who requires fast, comprehensive information about IV meds. This yearly updated book is laid out alphabetically by generic drug name with multiple indexed cross referencing by classification and brand names. The staff in the ER consider it an indispensible tool on all relevent aspects of IV meds and their appropriate application. Awareness = improved patient care and safety.

Intravenous Medications by Gahart and Nazareno
Intravenous Medications is clear, concise and contains the most pertinant information for the healthcare professional who deals daily with IV medications. Easy to use format gives the most up to date information about each drug on approximately two pages per entry. This book is used by our pharmacists and our anesthetists.

Alert to Mentoring
MENTOR QUEST
On my fiftieth birthday, I lamented to God that I have never had a one-on-one personal
mentor, and how now I probably never would. Enter mentor par excellence, Betty Southard,
via her wonderful new book, The Mentor Quest, that I received as a gift. In a matter of hours
as I sped my way through this challenging book, without ever having to leave my chair, I met
an extended host of helpers at-the-ready with inspiration and information to guide and grace
my life. With an innovative twist, while not disregarding typical mentorial relationships,
Southard opened [what she calls] my "mentoring eyes" to behold a vast array of educators
within easy reach, if I would but reach out. Once she challenged me to "be alert to life" I saw
a mosaic of mentors coloring my life-besides typical sources like teachers, pastors, parents,
and friends, there were the Bible and Bible studies, books, TV, radio, movies, conferences,
speakers, web sites, e-mentoring over e-mail, and lessons learned from life-circumstances, to
name just some. With Southard's encouragement and equipping, I know I could find a mentor-
a-minute if I take responsibility to keep looking through mentor-colored glasses with an alert
attitude and a grateful heart.
-Lynn D. Morrissey, author & speaker

Timely in it's teachings...
As we move forward through life we find ourselves both needing a mentor and being one. The fascinating thing about Betty Southard's book is her keen insight that many times the need and the being are done without our knowledge. Betty expertly brought to my mind the number of women and men who have touched my life and the numbers of lives I may have touched along the way. This book is especially valuable to those in leadership of any kind...from parents to preachers, from family to friends...and everyone in between.

Finding the Guidance You Need
This practical and inspiring book offers insightful suggestions for how to find the help and guidance we need as we push through the pressures of life. They include people we can learn from, books, men and women of the Bible and mentoring that may take us by surprise in a moment when we are most in need. Wisely, the author also has a chapter on 'toxic' mentoring and how to avoid it! A good resource for study, sharing, and application.

Gorgeous Western Art
Bev Doolittle's definitive collection (you don't need anything else of hers if you have this one) is a glorious compendium of richly detailed full-color reproductions of her paintings. The optical tricks alone are worth the book's price tag, and the minuteness and authenticity of Doolittle's details rival the paintings of Frank C. McCarthy (another favorite of mine). Anyone who loves illustrations of horses, American Indians, or both cannot call their collection complete without this title.

A Combination of Wonderful Art and Love
Those unfamiliar with Bev Doolittle's work miss the opportunity to discover a true artist's blending combination of technical skill, and understanding of nature, and a love for her work which leaps from every page. She beautifully weaves nature, man, and its animals in a mystical manner. A wonderful choice for anyone who appreciates great talent. Also a wonderful experience for children in examining and finding the hidden so intricately involved.

I was great
I think it is the most astonishing book I have ever rea

You can read this book in one sitting since it if very short, but informational. If you are looking somewhere to start, this is a perfect book! I had never even knew there were such support groups such as Al-Anon & Nar-Anon, which are support groups for the loved ones of substance abusers.

My Life was Saved
During Family week at the BFC I sat in a lecture conducted by Dr. West. It was during this informal lecture that I came to the reality that I was an alcholic and was just as sick, if not more, than the family member I was there for. The main item in the "Book of Answers" that made me realize this, among other things, is listed on pages 20-21. I failed this test miserably.
I've been clean and sober for 6 years. BFC and Dr. West literally "SAVED MY LIFE". I only pray that many other lives as well as relationships can be saved by simply reading this "Book of Answers". Thank You Dr. West

Thank You Dr. West
This book is a compendium of multiple newspaper columns written over several years. In it Dr West shares practical knowledge, insights, and compassion that is rarely seen in medical texts. As a medical oncologist I have occasion to work with many people with varying stages of alcoholism. I have found this book very helpful for practical points of view that are not seen often in medical literature. I recommend this easy to read useful book by this authoritative source to all in the healthcare profession.

Timeless Tales review
By TT reviewer John Richard

Richard Clifford, a deaf boy living on a farm with his mother, arrives home after a motorcycle ride.THE SILENT SCREAM is a fast read, blazing through the pages with the speed of a falcon in a dive. The main character, Tom Casey, and his wife are in a sense, the modern version of Nick and Nora Charles, only with their own unique bent. Tom's disfigurement for example only adds to his likeableness. Plus he's caring and compassionate, and almost non-violent, which are very rare elements in the modern PI story. The only downside though, is the ending, which slowed after the climax, though thirty pages remained! Despite this minor shortcoming, the novel is an amazing read, going back to the age where the PI often referred to his mental skills, got along well with the police, and often assisted them in the investigations. A delightful read for any mystery lover, though especially for those who miss the golden age of the thinking PI.

An Incredibly Sensorial Mystery

Seventeen-year-old Richard Clifford returns to his isolated ranch home from a motorcycle ride to find his mother and dog both slaughtered in their kitchen. Not having a telephone, he rides his motorcycle to the Zanker house ten miles away. The Zankers are gone and the only other neighbor, old Jerome isn't home either. Richard is deaf, his father died of cancer a year ago, he doesn't know where his only uncle is, he knows of no other neighbors but the Zankers and Jerome.

The smell in the house becomes nauseating. Richard buries his dog under his mother's favorite tree. After washing his mother's violated body and dressing her in a clean dress he wraps her in a quilt and a plastic table cloth and seals her body in a granary to protect it from rodents and insects. Richard cleans up the rest of the mess in the house and anxiously awaits the return of his neighbors. As soon as the crime is reported to the authorities he can begin to search for the murderer himself.

Private Detective, Tom Casey, better known as Hawkman assists the sheriff's office in their investigation. He alone is convinced of Richard's innocence. The boy does show an unusual ability with a knife, proven when he's attacked by a mountain lion and kills it, skins it and tans the hide. He becomes a focal point of abuse by an gang of outlaw bikers and since he can't hear, he can't anticipate the approach of predators whether two or four legged. Richard does perform his mundane chores as usual, milks the cow, does the chores, tends his mother's garden-appears to be going about life as usual, intent on staying on his own land. But he's a minor and unless his uncle can be found Richard will become a ward of the court.

Once again Betty Sullivan La Pierre has involved me in the lives of her characters to such an extent that after beginning, I didn't have the option of closing the book until the surprise at the end. Having a hearing disorder myself, I can attest to the authenticity of her character's struggles. This author consistently writes good clean, captivating mysteries peopled with substantial characters in sensorially credible scenes and settings that live in the reader's memory after the solution. I give THE SILENT SCREAM five stars.

It will stay in your memory for a long time to come.
Seventeen-year-old Richard Clifford already had two strikes against him, his father had died recently, leaving him, and his mother, alone. And he was deaf. But the worst was yet to come.

After a motorcycle ride in the hills, one afternoon, Richard opened the front door, of his home, to find his beautiful mother, and his pet dog, Ruffy, laying in pools of blood on the floor. Both had, had their throats slit.

Richard didn't know what to do. There was no phone in the house. The Zanker's ranch was at least ten miles down the hill from the Clifford's little farm, and the only other person living anywhere near, was an old hermit named Jerome who lived up the hill from them. Both were not home. What could he do other than to try and preserve all the evidence he could, and protect the bodies from predators until help could be found.

And so begins the story of a remarkable seventeen year old, and the people who came forward to help him.

After what to Richard seemed like months, but in actuality was only four days, Herb and Elsie Zanker returned home from a visit with one of their daughters. Herb thought he should take up some supplies to the Cliffords as they were probably running low on things since he and Elsie had been gone longer than they expected. Upon arriving at the Cliffords farm, Herb found out what had happened.

Herb called the police. While the police were examining the scene for evidence, and recovering the bodies of the dog, and Richard's mother, Tom Casey, Private Investigator, otherwise known as Hawkman by his family and friends, was training the new falcon that his wife, Jennifer, had given him for his birthday in the woods nearby. He soon sees all the commotion up at the farm and decides to go investigate.

Standing in the shadows, and listening to the police talk to Richard, and to Richard's explanation of what happened, Hawkman decides that this young man needs someone to help him. Otherwise he doesn't feel that Richard has much of a chance against the legal system at all.

Ms. La Pierre has written a story that you absolutely will not be able to put down. She gets your total attention on the first page, and continues to hold it until you have finished the last page.

Her characters grab all of your emotions, from compassion to complete, and total hatred. I went through whole spectrum. I also went through a box of tissues before I finished the first chapter; it was so compelling.

I can't recommend THE SILENT SCREAM enough. To miss this wonderful book is something no one should do. You will not forget it even after you have finally put it down. It will stay in your memory for a long time to come.

I can't wait to read more of Betty Sullivan LaPierre's books. She is a very talented author, and I am so glad that she has decided to share her talent with the world. Her talent is one that should never be hidden, and she sure displayed it at it's best in THE SILENT SCREAM.

The White Separatist Movement in the United States
The White Separatist Movement in United States: White Power White Pride is a very fair book written by two Left wing feminists who try very hard to keep their feeling of hate and disgust for us out of the book, and they do a very good job.
This is a well researched book. These ladies spent a lot of money and time traveling America to talk to many people in the movement. They did not just rehash some old ADL reports like most reporters do, and the book is proof of their hard work. This is a fresh look at the movement through the eyes of two Left wing Eggheads. To show you how far to the Left they are, in the back of the book they called the super liberal rag The New Republic a right wing publication. I got a real kick out of that.
This is a great book for an overview of the race movement in America. A lot of good info and most of it is correct, at least from their worldview of us.
These ladies interviewed me last summer for a book on Odinism they are planning to write. I don't know what they're going to call it. Also, a man named Mardell is coming out with a book on Asatru called the Gods of Blood. Which will be coming out soon.

Finally a non-bias look at white pride
It's really refreshing to read a book that doesn't reinforce the stereotype that pro-white groups/individuals are inbred, backwoods, barefoot rednecks that wear stupid costumes.
(...) I couldn't put this book down. (...)

Very Fair and Objective
The authors provide an even handed and honest assessment of the pro-white movement in the united states. It is well worth the price and a good read.
