Jennie's story

Tragic story of woman affected by early 1900's eugenics laws
Jennie's Story is a play which tells the story of a woman who was sterilized under the 1930's eugenics laws of Alberta, Canada. This law stated that anyone who could be shown to be "evil" (i.e. promiscuous) or who could be shown to be "feeble-minded" could be legally sterilized to prevent the transmission of these characteristics to future generations. It is a sad part of Canadian history, however, the play is important in that it keeps all of us aware that governments are capable of these attrocities. I am the author's daughter, and this story was originally told to my mother by my grandmother (who have both since passed away). Before my mother died, she knew this was an important story to tell- partly to honor the heroine of the story, Jennie, who committed suicide in real life after learning that her childhood operation was not to remove her appendix. This play has also recently been made into a film called "Heart of the Sun" and played to appreciative audiences at film festivals in Canada. I hope that you enjoy the play.

A great book for those who have never given westerns a try!
This classic western tail of men saving women, while being a great love story is also a wonderful adventure story. A classic cowboy\borderman fights indian to save the helpless beuty, but instead of man saving woman, it is reversed, when Helen saves Jonathan from his own unhappy life. I have loved this book since the first day my mother placed it in my hands to read, and although the original has a few lapses in storyline, they kill someone twice, the basic story structure is enjoyable. Having read this book close to a dozen times, I can recommend that every person who has never given westerns a try read this one.

Dinah's Story
A wonderful tale of a wonderful dog. However, the alternating chapters between White and Sullivan are annoyingly disruptive. A different format would have focused more on the dog that readers grow to love.

Murder in the Cotswolds!
A successful mystery writer moves to the Cotswolds to get out of the bustle of London. Little does she know that this will put her in the middle of a real life murder mystery that she helps to solve. With the help of her quirky neighbor, Melissa stumbles on some secrets that others want to stay hidden and onto the identity of the real killer.

This was a great start to the series. I enjoyed watching Melissa gain her independence from an ex-lover and learning how to do things for herself. The neighbor was a delight with her vegetarian (but not preachy), healthy lifestyle, and the next books in the series promise to show more of these great characters. Great, light reading. Enjoy!

It was a very good Betty Neels book.
I liked the book, but then I love Betty Neels' books, I read everyone I get my hands on. It was a little shorter than most of her stories, because it is combined with another book. It was neat where she let you know a little more of what the Hero was thinking, than she usually does. If you really like Betty Neels, You will like this book.

Love, Sex & Psa: Living & Loving With Prostate Cancer
Published in Paperback by Tmc Pr (October, 1997)
Authors: Robert Hitchcox, Lester Klein, and Betty Wilson
Amazon base price: $12.95
Average review score:

With a dash of humor
I wanted to read Mr. Hitchcox's book because since my own diagnosis in late November 1999, I have devoted myself to finding material that can help other men with the disease, either at a Cincinnati OH support group or my Web site. There are books about prostate cancer but too few that approach the subject of intimacy, let alone include it in the title. Mr. Hitchcox not only takes it on but with an even rarer - and much-needed - sense of humor. (How often do you learn the year/make of a writer's car in "About the Author"?)

Although Mr. Hitchcox is a firm advocate of including the companion in the process, I was pleasantly surprised to find "The Wife Gets to Speak" at the close of the book where his spouse gives her perspective on the ordeal. More first-person books should take this route because this disease affects more than the man.

The book is short, laced with cartoons and a fast-read but perhaps exactly what most newly diagnosed men need. At that early stage, one doesn't have much attention span. There's also good resources, a list of questions for your doctor and a good, workable index. And don't let the year of publication (1997) stop you from getting it. He gives an attitude that will be needed as long as there is treatment for this disease.

I enjoyed the book well enough to wonder why it isn't listed at more Web sites. It will be at mine with a recommendation to get it - as I did - from Amazon.com.

From the cover...
Lucky Corner tells the remakrable story of Alred E. Snatangelo, who represented New York City's upper east side, including East Harlem. Written by his wife, companion, and confidante and enhanced by many photographs never before published, Lucky Corner opens a window to a vanishing world of first- and second-generation Italian Americans and reveals a picture of a man who became a national champion of Italian-American rights.

[from back cover] "Lucky Corner teaches us that with honesty, hard work, intellectual ability, and strong personal character, immigrant families can not only rise in this country, but can make important contributions to America. Move over, Fiorello La Guardia. Alfred Santangelo has gained his rightful place on Lucky Corner and in American History." - Michael Barone, Co-Author, the Almanac of American Politics

Not quite poetic, but pretty good!
I liked this book quite a bit. Melissa Craig decides to go on a writer's retreat and gets mixed up in a murder. The victim was the much disliked owner of the school hosting the retreat. There were a lot of twists and turns in the plot, but I had a hard time understanding why it took everyone in the book so long to figure out what was going on, when I already had it figured out. But I will admit that I was surprised by the final identity of the murderer at the end. I'm willing to read the next one by this author, but I wish that writers would really surprise me a little more often.

Good but longer stories would have been better!
For a book containing some short love stories this book was good but I would have preferred two books with longer stories especially Betty Neels story The Doctor's Girl, I liked the story and I liked the heroine Loveday West and the hero Andrew Fforde but I felt that since it was a short story that too much time was wasted on Loveday's silly infatuation with Andrew's snooty, bad mannered, phony baloney cousin Charles! I definitely would have preferred less of Charles and more of Andrew!
