A wonderful book for everyone that moves away from home
This is a must buy for
- the college kid moving away from home,
- the single person that gets its first own apartment, and
- a newly wed young couple.

This one in combination with WHERE's MOM NOW THAT I NEED HER is the ultimate tool. I bought mine while I was already married and knew how to cook because it has great QUICK recipes in it and clean up hints as well as help on measuring etc.

A definit MUST BUY for every child that leaves home. and the hardcover version is great because of the ring binder. It lays flat while cooking and you can add pages.

White Coolies

My most memorable read
I was given this book to read when it was first published - 1954 - when I was 12 years old. I am now 58!

The courage, humour, resourcefulness and sheer mental tenacity displayed by this group of women astounded me - even as a 12 year old. I seemed to bond with them. I wept when prisoners were abused or died and laughed myself silly when they pulled funny pranks on their loathesome Japanese guards.

I am an avid reader but there has never been another book which has left such an impression on me. As a high school student of English, I chose "White Coolies" as a book review assignment. I remember scoring very highly.

I am keen to obtain a copy of White Coolies, particularly as one of the wonderful women featured in it, Vivien Statham (Bullwinkel) passed away in Perth, Western Australia, this week.

A wonderful and unusual book!
Another of my childhood favorites which is out of print. I'm glad I kept my copy which I still re-read to this day. The story takes place during the Depression. I liked that Margaret, the main character, dreamed of being a doctor just like her dad. She has to overcome her own prejudices and fears in the book and that's a good lesson but not done in a preachy way. The storyline intrigued me and although I was pretty sure I knew who Victoria was early on the first time I read it, I was captivated by the bizarre events that occurred wherever she went and the reason behind her existence. A terrific reading experience and it should be back in print!

An invaluable reference!
This book offers invaluable references for travel, literature art...heck, even songs by Sting! I purchased my first copy while in art school where I couldn't keep straight all of the tales of love, betrayal and revenge in the ancient world. After four months in Italy and Greece it is worn, torn and lovingly wine stained, but it has served me well. I used it to decipher names on structures in the Roman Forum and to reveal the meaning of paintings in the Ufizzi. Without it my travels would not have been nearly as rich.

Well Rounded View of Will Rogers
This is a wonderful book about Will Rogers from his wife's perspective. I feel I got to know more about Betty Blake Rogers, as well as getting more insight into her husband's character. It was quite interesting to get the family's view of life with Will. This book is a wonderful addition to my library of Will Rogers books, rounding out the public image from the other books, with a private viewpoint in this book.

Timeless Tales review
By TT reviewer Briana Lambert [full review on our website]

A Winning Chance is the merry tale of not quite mistaken identity, wistful dreams and a love to last a lifetime. Twenty-something Lori Hayes is shocked when she receives a Federal Express letter saying that she is the finalist in a dream date contest. She certainly never entered this contest, and cannot imagine where the contest organizers got her name. After a call to them sheds no light on the confusion, Lori decides to attend the televised event anyway. She is tantalized by the thought that the prizes include a 'Dream Home' or a set of matching convertibles. A car is a luxury that Lori had to give up when she formed her vintage clothing shop. Her days are long, but rewarding, but the long walks to and from work leave her tired and irritable.

Lori's life is further complicated by her allergies, which are ever present upon her return from work every day. Instead of relaxing, her evenings are spent in stuffed up misery. She is also annoyed by her next door neighbor's annoying propensity for playing motivational uplifting songs every night as she starts to go to sleep. The mysterious male neighbor is said to strut around in his underwear, and Lori and her neighbor start to refer to the mysterious presence as Calvin, in honor of his preferred attire. She and Calvin enjoy nightly chats between their too thin walls, but never meet face to face.

Chance Dawson has a plan. After the abandonment at a young age by his parents, Chance is determined to make a home and family for himself. With the help of a good friend's father, he sets up a structure of his goals. A dream house is the next goal he must meet. While his apartment isn't terrible, he is chagrined by the relative thinness of the walls and the fact that one neighbor in particular is always knocking on his walls and complaining about his inspirational music. Chance decides to enter the contest in the hopes that he will win. Love isn't part of his plan for a few years, so he must only have fun with the winner of the contest, while keeping his heart removed.

When Chance and Lori find themselves chosen to go on a dream weekend date, they fight an immediate attraction to each other. Lori thinks Chance is far too handsome and represents trouble to her. Chance is enchanted by the russet haired beauty, but love just isn't in the cards until after he has a house. Can these secret neighbors let their guard down enough to experience a dream romance?

I could live on a constant diet of Betty Jo Schuler's brand of romantic comedy! Lori and Chance were lovingly constructed characters that involved me in their story from the first page. Their capers as they tried to thwart the omnipresent contest staff while on their getaway had me chuckling. The suspense that built as the neighbors passed tantalizingly close had me reading on frantically. The payoff was well worth the wait! Take a chance with this book, you'll find that you have hit the jackpot!
