Towards the end, the book grows too focused on events on not on Daws' life, but it is otherwise an impacting, convicting, and inspirational read. A very worthwhile biography for anyone seeking to know God and make Him known.

I owe a lot of the positive things in my life to Betty Eadie. I own all her books and the ones by her publishing company. She knows how to make the most of our life. Through her advice, I was able to learn to love above all else. It has been able to help me have a better relationship with relatives and people who don't live in a way I might approve of. And that has made an amazing difference in my life, these past ten years since reading "Embraced".
Today I read a quote from the Ripple Effect in this devotions book. No, "Ripple" is not as good as "Embraced," but each book contains invaluable advice that can help us live a happier, more fulfilled life. From the Ripple Effect, I learned to change the behaviors that I picked up from my family as a child. Her words empowered me to create my own history...to stop negative ripples and create positive ones. Can you put a price on that?
I recommend all her books, including Maniilaq and Souls Remembrance (by her publishing company), to remind us of why we are here and to make positive changes in our lives for the best. When you read the books, try not to think so much in your head as your heart. How do you feel when you read them? Does it give you a sense of peace and joy? Apply them to your lives. If you read them with an open heart, you will have this peace. Even if you have some doubts of the veracity of these peoples' experiences, the advice within can change your life.
From Ostrich To Standing Stone is a 'Must Read' story not to be missed!
For me it is a simple story, well crafted. It gave me insight into MD that I would never have had without reading it. And perhaps most importantly, it portrays how the most difficult life becomes manageable when built on a foundation of faith in God.
In this well-written novel, the author, who has FSH muscular dystrophy, introduces Elizabeth, spirited as a child and as an adult, who's had FSHD since early childhood. The story is a tapestry woven of humor, creativity, spiritual insight, passive/aggressive acceptance, adjustment, struggle, balance, discrimination and, finally, trust.
Elizabeth becomes a teacher and dormitory manager in the inner city. As she faces a variety of challenges, she remains true to herself, motivated by her resolve to move forward even when a future doesn't seem to exist for her. Because of this resolve and her deep faith in God, she leads a life full of emotion balanced by the routine of daily living, always seeking to understand what life is about. Sound familiar?

This book has made me think about the impending death of one of my dogs along with the loss of my childhood dog. It was a way to look back and realize that the feelings that I have had all these years were real and were "ok"
I think one of the main themes of this book is that it's "ok" to feel what you are feeling. It's not just a dog, it's part of your family and greiving is natural and expected part of healing.
Betty Carmack also tells us that it's ok to move on. That we will know when the time is right to get the next pet.
I also liked how it didn't just focus on dogs or cats, there were people who were greiving the loss of their beloved bird.
This is a must read for anyone who has a pet or who has lost a pet. I will recommend this book to everyone I know.
