Very grasping
Great book! Very grasping. Its a book that is hard to put down. I can see why the controversy on the local news here, the book, with all the names, can be potentially damaging to the officers named. But it gives the civilian an inside look into the police station, which I think should have been done a long time ago. Although I sensed such behavior, some may not have. People need to know what happens behind the scenes and take action.

Teaches compassion, respect, and love for nature
Simon has been trying to catch a salmon all summer long. When he finally has the opportunity to catch a salmon trapped in a hole made by clam digging, he decides the fish belongs back out in the ocean. How he makes the effort and succeeds in freeing the fish is inspiring to young readers. Within the story is a short, two-sentence description of the salmon cycle that readers can understand, and a description of the tidepool life. I'm so happy to see this book still in print! It was one of my son's favorite books when he was little. I highly recommend it to parents and teachers.

A "Saturday's Child" myself.....
From the Cover: Abigail was a true 'Saturday's Child'; she worked very hard for her living. And it looked like she could expect to go on earning her own living, for no one seemed to be in any great hurry to marry her - least of all Dominic van Wijkelen, who admired her as a nurse but who seemed to have no personal feeling for her at all - except dislike!
This was a GREAT Betty Neels book! Abigail and Dominic are featured in several other of her books about tall, handsome doctors and the plain-faced nurses who really aren't so plain after all. Locations changed rather frequently for a "Betty book", and we get to see a little of Spain, France and Belgium in addition to the regular England/Holland journey. Good reading! I highly recommend this one!

lots of local color--a fun, cultural mystery
Just wonderful. Not only is it a fun story complete with love,
murder, mystery, it is also a great introduction to what a folklorist does! It's full of local color, tone and accents. What a riot some of the folk are. I just loved the book and am looking forward to the sequel.
