WOW-You Will Not Believe This Book-Beautiful!!
We have waited a very long time for a comprehensive book on this beautiful American art glass and Betty Sisk has provided us with a treat for the eyes! The photos are beautiful in full color and plentiful. I did not know that such examples of this artform existed until feasting on this book. All collectors of art glass must add this to their libraries. The information with each type of glass is insightful and just enough to ready the reader for the pictures to follow. The insight provided is both scholarly and from a collector's perspective. Prices are given in a fair range to give a fair market value. And what pictures there are to enjoy! Many glass types are well covered for the first time. This book will set a very high standard by which all other references on this glass will be judged in the years to come. We indeed owe the author a debt due to this subject's neglect until now. This is a must buy! We have waited a long time to get this book-thanks Betty!!

i liked it!
I liked it because Mustard is funny and a the best. I think he is the best because he saved a kittens life. And i think he is funny because he gathered up a whole bunch of things that didn't belong to him or his owner, Miss. Goldfinch.

Delightful Read for Parents and/or Educators!
MY SELF, MY FAMILY, MY FRIENDS is a practical and comprehensive guide to young children's self-esteem. As a parent I like the concise chapters, each is complete in itself, yet complimented by the rest of the book. (Remember that most parents are limited by sitting times of 10 minutes or less to read, i.e. the amount of time they can hide in the bathroom!) As an educator, I am impressed by the topics, authors, and the list of resources at the end of each section. I found several unique topics of interest including "Encouraging Hope in Young Children", "The Joy in Your Preschooler's life", "Making Relaxation Part of Children's Lives" and "Snakes Never Slurp Their Soup." I can't wait to start Ms. Farber's other books!

My World of Spanish Words
This book contains wonderful photos, color and translations of everyday words that children use in Spanish and English. I would recommend this book for anyone trying to teach their child either language.

A wonderful book for toddlers!
A wonderful book to teach basic concepts such as colors, numbers and opposites. The pictures are bright, clear and engaging. There are some helpful hints in the forward about how to get the most out of reading this (and other books) to you child. My 16 month old son loves this book (as did his older brother when he was a toddler).

Portraits From The Past
This is clearly a work of love. The author displays a love for the art, the love of the artist for his art, and the work of an artist who loves what he was doing. Karsh, the nephew of Nakash, has long been recognized as the premier portrait photographer of his generation, but Guernsey traces the origins of Karsh's skills, and Karsh reveals this in a loving introduction. The plates are stunning. Some are famous Canadians; others are man-in-the-street. All reveal some aspect of character to intrigue the viewer. It is wonderful that the work of this brilliant photographer has been preserved. The book is a world treasure.

Short but good
This is a short but very clear and very detailed book. It gives most of the techniques and the concepts to understand neural networks. it was my first introduction to the topic and since then I have been able to read more advanced texts and papers. I would say that this is the ideal entry point to the topic as well as an interesting book for the general reader willing to have a general overview of the field

A Stirring & Insightful Look at Africa
Superb. In a single volume, the writer and the photographer present stories and images that break the heart and then help put it back together again. They offer a rare look at Africa--a telling mix of broad stroke historical analysis and intimate personal portraits. Reading it, I met people who have endured extraordinary struggles--warfare, famine, political assault. I also encountered individuals involved in grass roots efforts to claim their human rights and rebuild their communities and their nations in the twin wakes of colonial and post-colonial devastations. Throughout, I was pulled by the lively urgency of Robert Press' prose--a tone suggesting that the author is not only well-acquainted with his subject, but deeply concerned about Africa and its peoples. That quality is reinforced by Betty Press' striking, and sometimes haunting, photographs. While this book is well equipped to pass muster with scholars and long-time Africa watchers/commentators, it offers much for a more general public that may be struggling to sort through the tangle of news coming from the continent.

The New Altar Guild Book

An essential guide
This little book is an indispensible resource for any person who serves on an altar guild, the lay ministry in the episcopalian church responsible for making sure that everything on the altar and in the sanctuary is ready for worship.

Altar guild ministry isn't for everyone, but it's both absolutely essential for the liturgy and a symbolic reminder of the necessity for conscientious labor in the everyday world. It's the way of Martha, of quiet, unobtrusive household work that goes on in the background. In making sure that vestments are laid out, candle wicks are trimmed, altar clothes ironed, hymn numbers displayed, and so on, the altar guild member serves both God and his or her fellows. It's a ministry of what Henri Nouwen called "downward mobility" that encourages anonymous service, loyalty, and discipline.

Barbara Gent and Betty Sturges take the ministry seriously enough to have put together a book that takes altar guild members through the sometimes arcane language of the sacristy (what exactly is the difference between a lavabo and a baptismal towel? where does the word "amice" come from? and what in the world is a cerecloth?!), gives step-by-step instructions on setting up an altar or decorating the church according to the church calendar, and explains how to prepare for special occasions such as funerals. The authors wisely recognize that many procedural details can and should be worked out by individual churches. What's the point of over-regulating? But there still remain many procedures uniform to all congregations, and it's these that they cover in their book.

If I have any reservation at all about this useful little guide, it's that I wish there was more of a discussion on the spirituality of altar guilding. But one book can't do everything, and what this one does it does extremely well. Highly recommended.

Complete review about the health benefits of fiber
Most Americans consume 8-12 grams per day of fiber because we prefer foods containing "fat, sugar, and salt." By increasing our fiber intake up to 25-30 grams per day, we can decrease our chances of heart disease, cancer, and stroke considerably. These are the three main causes of death in America. Increased fiber intake has many other health benefits that are reviewed here. Betty Kamen has taken an otherwise boring subject - "fiber" and made her text interesting, informative, and highly documented with medical literature. Everyone can benefit from the concepts presented here - everyone who wants to live longer and healthier. Armed with this knowledge and by taking a fiber supplement (Bios Life 2 by Rexall), I have personally lost 29 lbs. in 10 weeks, lowered my cholesterol from 228 down to 170 in the first 23 days, and lowered my blood pressure from 130/90 to 118/70. The facts presented here are truly life changing. I'm a physician, and I personally recommend this book to many people with health care concerns that fiber either prevents or potentially cures. "Fiber" - how could something so simple escape the modern medical world? Betty Kamen's book reminds us of our past dietary habits before the fast food industry and the processed foods came on the scene.
