Promises
Back Cover description: All the village assumed that Margo Pearson was to marry George, but unexpectedly meeting Professor Gijs van Kessel made her pause for thought. But being a plain, practical girl, Margo knew the professor was most unlikely to look her way. It took a tragic accident to bring an offer of marriage--from the professor. It was a practical proposal, but as Margo was taken into the bosom of his family over Christmas in Holland, she did wonder whether he might, someday, return her love...

This is one of the better Ms. Neels' stories. Margo is not a doormat, and the professor is not as stoic as some of the other male characters have been. The story moves along nicely and you do get a little teary towards the end.

The Vicar's Daughter
This is a great book, I couldn't put it down until I read the last page. Betty Neels is a wonderful writer not only with this book but all of her books.

Neels doesn't disappoint with this one.
This was a wonderful read. As with most of Betty Neels books, I couldn't put it down. Of course you know the outcome, but the story is so sweet as you read along that you keep coming back for more. A very good quick read, and I highly recommend it.

Nothing as strange as reality
Having read this fourth volume about the Andreasson Affair I can't wait to get hold of book five. The story, as previously, is so incredible, and getting more so as each book is written, that it just has to be true. It works on so many levels - you can read as a story of fiction (if you like), you can read as an extensive piece of research, you can read it as a prediction for the future - something that we will all take for granted, in years to come. It stretches the mind to incredible lengths, rating alongside the complexity of physicists trying to fathom the origins of the universe through the Big Bang theories. Its not that heavy - just enjoy

Mind Boggling
This book is about a hypnotist patient's description of being abducted by alien entities through out her whole life, the way they look, what they want and a fantastic story of what they could be. The description of the aliens was fantastic the gray aliens beings being the lower in the rank of the aliens and the tall Nordic type being next, then the light beings, then her visitation with The One. The book also describes a connection with UFO and the after life connection, Biblical connections like the Enoch story very similar to the ufo stories. This book describes the theory that ufos might originate in a universe coexisting in the same space as our own reality. Fascinating abduction theories and theorys in general. Awesome book a must read.

A Book which Suggests the Reasons for UFO Abductions
For those who are frustrated with UFO abduction investigators' habit of evading the issue when the time comes to offering weighty explanations, WATCHERS II will come as a breath of fresh air. In this, the fourth book in the series which started with "The Andreasson Affair", the author takes a stand, daring to advance a well thought out explanation of who the ubiquitous "grays" (the "Watchers" of the book's title) might be, what their motivations are, and who directs their actions. While this book can be said to constitute a chapter in the Andreasson saga, it also functions both as an overview of it and--in many ways--the culmination of much research into what is, in fact, the single most documented UFO abduction case on record. The author is a particularly respected individual in the field, and it is often electrifying to find this authoritative figure make such strong and far-reaching statements. Few of Fowler's peers have either the nerve or the foresight to dare to advance probable causes for this heatedly debated phenomenon, and even fewer have his credentials and experience.

A misleading title
This is a beautiful book with exquisite layout and photographs. However, the title gives the impression that we will find information on the First Families, which certainly is not so. It is a very good coffee table book on interior design, design, furnishings, architecture, etc. but since I expected photos and information on people, I was somewhat dissappointed with its contents. But it is a work of art.

An Excellent Resource for Any Library
Betty Monkman, the White House Curator and photographer Bruce White (from the Metropolitan Museum of Art) have collaborated to create an invaluable text on the history of the furnishings of The White House. Wonderful stories lie within...most famously, the story behind the Resolute Desk, the desk used by Presidents Kennedy, Carter, George H. Bush, Bill Clinton, and now President George W. Bush in their respective Oval Offices.

On June 1st at 6PM, Ms. Monkman will deliver a lecture on The White House as part of exhibition presented by the John F. Kennedy Library and The Metropolitan Museum "Jacqueline Kennedy: The White House Years-Selections from the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum". The exhibit will begin May 1, 2001 until July 29, 2001. This will be a great opportunity for one to hear Ms. Monkman's expertise in person. Go to the lecture and buy the book!

BRAVO! BRAVO!
Once again Betty Monkman has given us WHITE HOUSE FANS a magnificant chronicle! What a glorious, beautiful absolutely stunning work of art! Betty has included everything in this piece! Bruce White's photography cannot be topped! Looking at the old photos of days gone by and then seeing the "latest versions" of those historic rooms is truly a treat! The details on the historic furntiure, art pieces, glassware, china and more within those walls is fascinating! During this - the 200th Anniversary year of the White House getting it's first occupants, this book is really a treasure and a great addition to anyone's library to help mark this historic anniversary! I thought I knew a lot about the White House - once again Betty Monkman has taught me more! Thanks Betty! :-)

Stirring Flight to Freedom!
As a pilot and a college student majoring in Spanish and International Affairs, this book hit home for me especially. It is the touching tale of a fighter pilot raised under Communist Cuba who learns nothing but to love Fidel Castro. As he grows older and travels to the USSR, he begins to recognize the flaws in this stiffling government -- and the injustice everywhere. At last, he turns against not only his country, but also his family and friends, and defects to the United States. From there the book discusses his heroic attempts to be reunited with his family -- until he at last successfully flies into Cuba, picks up his family, and leaves -- all without being detected by authorities. The suspenseful account will touch your heart and hopefully make you realize that liberty and freedom are things we should NEVER take for granted!

Freedom to put one's family first
This is an incredible book, basically an autobiography, about how Lorenzo escaped from everything he worked so hard for and left people he loved in order to find freedom--the freedom to love, think, and be whoever one wants to be. He always knew there was something wrong with sacrificing and suffering so much in order to put the Revolution first. He realized that without putting one's family first, nothing is worthwhile. This true story is a perfect example of how love wins over darkness. It really was Lorenzo's love for his family that helped him to do the daring and dangerous things he did. I think I learned more about Cuba and its people than I ever did in any history class and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about the island that seems to mystify the average US citizen (or, at least, me).

Wings of the Morning
This is a tremendous book - the best I have read in a long, long time. I highly recommend it. It is gripping, moving and inspiring. It is at once a biography, an adventure and a moving love story of a man, for his wife and family. Lorenzo was a Major in the Cuban Air Force, who became so disillusioned with Communism and the Castros, that he had to leave Cuba. He defected to the United States but had to leave his family behind. This is the story of how he accepted Raul Castro's challenge (dare) and went back to Cuba to rescue his family. I could not put this book down. LED

Pleasant
This is a fun book. I know that the 1950's/60's style of children/young adult books--gentle stories about teenagers whose worse problem is "fitting in" and invariably have loving and wise parents--has fallen into disfavor, while "modern" YA books emphasize real-world heavy problems such as teen pregnancy, drug use, abusive or broken homes, etc. But this book, like many others from its era, proves that a book with light content may still be well-written. This quiet story about teenagers fitting in, getting along with siblings, and growing is a pleasant exercise in nostalgia and a relaxing read. Also nice because the teenager girl character doesn't spend ALL her time thinking about boys.

A good story for teenage girls with older siblings
Although this book was published in 1960, the characters' personalities and most of the story line still relate to the present. The heroine, Kathy, must find her own nitch in high school, while dealing with the adolescent trials of her older brother. I don't feel I'm giving too much away by revealing that Kathy takes an interest in the school paper, and also in the paper's editor, a senior. Ms. Cavanna's ability to convey Kathy's ups and downs as a fifteen-year old is what really draws the reader into the story. I enjoyed and related to this book in middle school, but liked it when I read it recently as an adult. The best part of Ms. Cavanna's story is the developing maturity of her characters' emotions. She is able to convey the angst that teenagers can feel over first love and sibling rivalry in a way that can be related to today. It also has interesting glimpses into 1960 mainstream views of Beatnik culture.

Kids book that adults will like, too!
I think kids will like this book - but adults who love dogs will enjoy it too! As I read about Moss, I could see in him the same characteristics seen in other herders, especially one we fostered late last year (Barney!). The dog, the girl, and the supporting characters are all very realistically portrayed. I recommend it for kids who love dogs and adults, too.

"Away to Me, Moss": A GREAT Book
"Away to Me, Moss" is a book for sheep dog lovers, pretty much, only. The book is centered around a little girl, a sheep dog, and a parylized man. The Rob cant take care of his sheep dog anymore, so Zanna must take care of Moss. Moss was a one man dog, but Zanna brakes him of that habit.

Easy reading, informative, a good starting point for anyone.
This is a 123 page book that's quick and very thought provoking. The message is very simple. Just meditate and listen to the God force that's universal in all of us. Here's a small quote from the book, "It's easier to help a person who knows nothing than a wise man who knows all. Betty is very common sense in this book. She's selling no magic you don't already own. Buy two and give one to a friend.

Be Your Own Guru
Great book! For those who are not looking to follow a religion, this book is for you. Insights into her life are very interesting. It covers just about everything, death, meditation and much much more. One of the messages is that you can find your own answers. You don't need to get them from anyone else.

How to Survive when you leave home
For Christmas last year I purchased this book for my daughter who had just graduated from College. Living 200 miles away, we were not able to help her with things like fixing a flat tire or finding the fuse box and what to do when you find it. I would include a box of tools along with this book for a complete gift. Also the companion book, Where's Mom Now That I Need Her? is also an excellent book. I gave them both to my son in college.

Concise, helpful hints on many subjects
This book contains many useful suggestions and hints on solving everyday problems commonly associated with things 'Dads' usually fix. I first got this book when I went to college and still pick it up from time to time. A handy tool to have around.

Paired Up With...
This book picks up where, "On Your Own For The First Time" leaves off. These two books paired together and your child is set! On Your Own gives advice for resume writing, insurance, credit, room-mates, interviewing, shopping for cars, leases, legal matters, personal investing, etc. These two books together make the perfect graduation gift or even for the newlyweds....

Vintage Neels
Betty Neels is in my opinion one of the best Harlequin romance authors and she clearly deserves to be. A winter love story is a traditional tale about Claudia Ramsay who is offered a proposal of marriage by Dr.Tait-Bullen. A marriage of companionship not love. But with the passing of time, will they grow fonder of each other? Betty has penned a traditonal romance which as the other reviewer said, seems to belong in another era. However, though you can't fail to keep turning the pages and close the book with a sigh of content.

From companionship to love.
Claudia Ramsay first met Thomas Tait-Bullen when he came to consult on her Great Uncle William's health. Subsequent meetings after William's death leads Thomas to propose marriage, believing Claudia would make a most suitable companion.

A nice gentle tale that rings of another time. No sexual hijinks, but a satisfying read, filled with Neels' exquisite use of language and vibrant descriptions. One of the best writers in the old, but still popular subgenre of sweet romance. She never fails to elicite a deep sigh of content from me and is a nice change from the intensity of my other favorites, such as Diana Palmer.

THESE BOOKS ARE KEEPERS
Books by Betty Neels can be read by your daughters.
Based loosely on her own love story - her stories never fail to cement one's belief in real love.
Love seems to sneak up on her male characters while most of the time her ladies are more than willing to fall in love.

And when Mr. Thomas Tait-Bullen nearly loses his self control you know there is hope as he continues to watch his wife at the Christmas party. You can almost feel his emotion.
Keep her books - they make a wonderful addition to your library.

LOVED this book!
This book was absolutely a page turner! I could not put it down once I started! The characters just leapt off the page at you and I found myself drawn immediately into the mystery. I look forward to more offerings from Betty Byers- she is an extremely talented storyteller!

A Fan for Life
A nail biting novel that was very straightforward and easy to read. The chapters are short and compact with suspense to keep you plugged in. The sex scenes were hot and very intense. You think you know who's the killer, but you don't.... I couldn't believe this was Betty's first novel. Looking forward to future work.

Great Murder Mystery!!
A nail biting, easy to read, keep-you-glued-to-the-pages novel. Lot's of suspense and intrigue. The characters are well developed and the descriptions are uncanny. The sex scenes were hot, intense, and steamy. Betty keeps you guessing as to who is the killer. You think you know, but ..... surprise! surprise! Betty's first novel is really something. Look for her soon on any "best seller's" list. Can't wait to read what she's cooking up next!!Looking forward to future work.
