An Authentic Woman: Soulwork for the Wisdom Years (Thorndike Large Print Senior Lifestyles)

Soul comfort about one of life's stages...
Betty Clare Moffatt is a wise and comforting voice to this 52-year-old reader who is searching to find meaning, purpose and soul contentment in these post-child years. Her writing is beautiful and transcendant. And her life struggles and the wisdom that she has gathered because of them were inspiring and deeply comforting to bask in. For me, reassurances from an older woman to a younger one that life can always be beautiful and miraculous, no matter what age we are.

Beatiful words that touch the heart of a woman
Since I seem to be doing my own "soulwork" of late, this book caught my eye. The short essays are beautifully written and have brought me to tears and laughter with their stories. Ms Moffatt has touched the reality of being a woman "of an age". Much of what she describes has also happened to me, and she tells it in such a delightful way. I highly recommend it.

Great Cookbook for Kids
I had this book when I was young and enjoyed the recipes. These are not for the true beginner but for children that have had a little experience with cooking. Not only are these easy and fun recipes but they actually taste great. Highly recommend the "Big Fat Cookies" "Banana Boats" But the "Pink Elephants" are not very good at all. Different recipes for the different holidays, full menus in the back and cooking instructions in the front. A great gift for your little cook for lots of fun. It sure worked on me, I still love to cook!

Cookbook Heaven for Kids
When I was a little girl, I used this cookbook a lot. I won a fair contest with the exciting Castle Cake, and at the age of 12 made the Barbie Cake for my little sister's birthday. The directions are very easy and the pictures are great. My own children now love the recipes and enjoy making their own Bunny salad that look like little bunnies. A family favorite.

One of my favorite low-fat cookbooks
Most low-fat cookbooks contain lots and lots of recipes of food you'd never actually eat. And if you would try it, your kids definitely wouldn't. I like this one, because it has great recipes that even your kids will eat. It also has a basic primer in the front about nutrition and losing weight. Maybe I should get this one out again and review it!

Taste! You'll never know you're being good!
I have extremely high cholesterol hereditarily. When my doctor and I decided one last try at getting it down through diet, my husband grimaced. (I had been put on straight tuna once and he wasn't looking forward to this!) When I made the first meal from this book, all he could say was, "Wow, it actually tastes wonderful!" But, when I made the chocolate chip cookies, he actually said they were the best he's ever had! We have now made several of the recipes, including the homemade tortilla chips, and have loved each one. This is my FAVORITE low-fat cookbook ever! I just wish they'd come out with another one.

betty crocker's old fashioned cookbook
THIS COOKBOOK IS A WORTHWHILE INVESTMENT. THE RECIPES ARE EASY TO FOLLOW AND THE COORDINATING PICTURES ARE A HELP WHEN PRESENTATION IS IMPORTANT! I AM A LIBRARIAN AND WOULD BE REMISS IF I DID NOT MENTION THAT THE BINDING DOES NOT WEAR WELL WITH AGE. THE COOKBOOK IS SO RELIABLE, THAT REPAIRING THE BINDING IS WORTH THE TIME AND REPLACING THE BOOK WITH THE SAME ONE IS A CONSIDERATION.

Excellent easy to follow recipes with beautiful pictures.
I have owned this cookbook since it first came out and every recipe I have tried has come out fabulously. I would highly reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys cooking.

Betty Friedan and the Making of "The Feminine Mystique": The American Left, the Cold War, and Modern Feminism

Facinating insight on a pivotal figure in American feminism
In a clear-eyed yet obviously compassionate examination of Betty Friedan, the "mother" of modern American feminism,Horowitz reveals that his subject was far more worldly and politically concious than she indicated in her 1963 ground breaker.

Although some of today's generation-- whether feminists or not--may scratch heads and wonder why an intellegent articulate woman would intentionally disguise so much of her being while urging other women not to do the same, Friedan had no choice. In a nation somewhat tempered by fresh reccollection of the horrors of McCarthyism, red-baiting and subsequent discreditation of those tarred with the label still ran rampant.

Understanding that her grim findings would never receive the light of day in a culture still gushy-eyed over the assumption that every housewife was automatically happy or that option was the only choice for women, she had to employ crafty PR strategies to make the book appealing for original publication and promotion. Her "new idenity" made her a far more appealing media source than a "radical labor activist" since it allowed her to avoid being blamed for her own stigmatization as one of those supposedly unnatural career women whose unhappiness must be self-inflicted.

As a member of third-wave feminism, I profess to having little initial interest in Friedan or her methodology. Because I lived in a world where with comparatively many more choices/rights, was aware of her own internal predjuduces towards intra-feminist movement diversity and antagonism towards Gloria Steinem, I usually wrote off Friedan as an anachronism who although important, was somebody I could not relate to directly. Since I was not married and was childless, I could not see myself in the pages.

After this book, I not only can see why she repackaged herself, but realized that I would do exactly the same thing in her position. I still disagree with Friedan on her minimialization of other feminist leaders, but have a new appreciation of her work and relevance.

Explores the "missing past" for Betty Friedan
In this very readable book, Daniel Horowitz examines Betty Friedan's political and intellectual origins and finds good reason to question the widely held understanding that The Feminine Mystique was written out of the perspective and consciousness of a typical surburban housewife.

Professor Horowitz explores the life and thought of the young Bettye Goldstein as an undergraduate at Smith, and then as a labor journalist in the early and mid 1940's, and reveals her origins as a committed social critic and advocate with labor-left origins.

Professor Horowitz treats his subject gently and with respect. Betty Friedan disagrees with Horowitz's analysis, and this tension adds to the fun.

How Did She Know My Family's Secret Recipes?
I picked up this cookbook hoping to discover some recipes to make for my mother that would remind her of the cooking that she grew up with. I was not disappointed! There were several old favorites and many recipes that I could swear were family secrets. The Dandelion Salad with Bacon Dressing and Potato Filling recipes were very similar to what we make for special occasions, and the Apple Fritters, Hot Potato Salad, Coconut Cake, and the Ham, Green Beans, and Potatoes dishes reminded us of several other recipes we had not made in a long time. Listed by food type in an easy-to-follow format, the only thing missing in this book was a beautiful picture of each of the recipes. If you enjoy cooking, are from Penn Dutch country, or just want to sample some regional cooking, this book is a great choice for you! Enjoy!

Love this book!
This is one of my most used cookbooks. I was raised eating a lot of Pa Dutch food but the aunt who cooked it passed away before I could pick her brain for all of her secrets. Ms. Groff's recipes are always exactly how I remember my aunt's dishes tasting.

Betty and Bunny - another winner.
What can I say. A pack of Betty Page postcards of such a small price. A must buy for any Betty Page fans. The booklet is the usual Taschen quality and every card is of a good standard of print and card gauge. There are some of the more famous pictures in here and even a couple in colour and with a short intro by Bunny Yeager herself. Top marks go to Taschen again so what you got to lose?

Definatley worth purchasing for real Betty Page fans
while this is not an actual book, as it's just pictures, i does give much insight into betty page's personality. This vivacious pin up girl was one of the first in that area. If you are, or know, a die hard betty page fan than i suggest purchasing this book.

Want a powerful beautiful book? Read this one.
I knew of Betty Shabazz, but this book helped me know her like never before. Dynamic woman of God. Powerful, strong, funny, sassy and cool. This book made me want to be a better person because she gave me such a wonderful example to exceed. Just an awesome read.

sister betty
It's truly a shame that Betty Shabazz was blacklisted after and even before the death of her husband Malcolm X. Her life is one of triumph and tradegy. This book gave insight into a true American heroine. She is definitely one of my heros. Thanks to all the "Sisterfriends" who contributed.
