Basic and beautiful
Christianity at its most basic. Even if you've heard it all before (or think you have), Tony Evans spells out beautifully what it means to live life God's way, and seasons it with practical humor. Taken together with the other "Kingdom Agenda" books, this book reminds us why we're here and how to live in sync with God's purpose.

Info from the dustjacket.
304 pages. Illust B&W & color. The Department of Prints and Drawings in the British Museum holds one of the world's greatest collections of prints, consisting of more than two million items of exceptional quality. All the major names of Western printmaking are represented, often in complete series and in excellent impressions. This book studies the history of this remarkable collection over the 250 years since the British Museum was founded in 1753. Ten essays by members of the Department are devoted to describing the principal gifts, bequests or purchases that now form the core of the Museum's holdings. The original collectors and benefactors were diverse; they included Sir Hans Sloane, the fashional society physician who founded the British Museum; the Reverend C. M. Cracherode, a shy bibliophile who never left London but who axquired an extraordinary collection of prints by Rembrandt; the lawyer Felix Slade; the lifelong friends William Mitchell and John Malcolm and the Australian born George Salting, who did nothing all of his life but collect, constantly trading one item for another. Around such figures worked the Keepers of the department, using the purchase funds allotted by the government to fill what gaps they perceived: one of these Keepers, Campbell Dodgson, himself became the greatest of twentieth century donors. To these essays are added nine extensive appendices with unpublished documents taken from the Museum's archives. The fullest account ever published of the growth of any part of a British national collectionm this book is an important contribution to the history of print collecitng, tracing the evolution of ideas about the purpose and function of prints and charting changes in taste. It is illustrated with 100 examples of the finest prints from the collections described in the essays.

Large scale structures in the universe - Anthony Fairall
Cosmology is a currently a facinating subject with many questions yet to be answered. This book provides a pragmatic approach to one of comology's most intriguing aspects - the mystery of the large scale structure, often refered to as the cosmic voids, sheets and filaments. The book is experimentally orientated, leading the reader through the proccesses required for observation and measurement of galaxy formations. As a student of astrophysics at degree level, I found the book helpful and supportive, well referrenced, and as comprehensive at this level as could be expected. The historical aspect provides a progressive framework on which to build a sound knowledge of the subject, and future plans in the field are discussed along with possible results and consequences of such. The bottom line is that this is the only book I found on the subject which was suitably accessible, and I was not disappointed. If you are an undergraduate, or an amature astronomer, you will find this to be an invaluable referrence.

Investment Advice And Counsel You Can Use
Mr. Spare is a investment advisor who takes the long view. He presents his ideas in very simple language that both novice and experienced investors can use. Chapter 1 and 2 alone are worth the price of admission. Chapter 1 (The New Face Of Retirement) presents the case for continuing to work, save, and invest because of the simple fact that we will live longer and that experience counts in the marketplace. Chapter 2 (How Much Do You Need To Retire?) demonstrates that a million dollars today isn't what it used to be, and that inflation is a deadly force, especially for those trying to maintain a reasonable lifestyle. Chapter 6 (Disregarding Noise, Understanding Time) offers sound advice on not paying any attention to the noise in the marketplace, especially in these times of CNBC and CNN. The rest of the book is icing on the cake. The key is to read widely, have an independent mind, and develop a focused portfolio. There are only a few books that one needs to invest successfully--this is one of them. Mr. Spare's book is one that every sensible investor should read once a year. It clears the mind wonderfully. Read it and read the classic by Charles D. Ellis (Winning The Loser's Game) and you will be miles ahead of the competition.

The Last Hero: Wild Bill Donovan
Published in Hardcover by Times Books (December, 1982)
Author: Anthony Brown

Comprehensive biography of father of OSS, later CIA
"Wild Bill" Donovan hails from Buffalo, N.Y.. In this extensive work of author Brown, we're provided his full story (as much as can be told, anyway) from WWII, Switzerland, the initial days at Rockefeller Center (and later, Langley), legal inception and structural formulation and dialogue with the president and military services to form the OSS, presently known as the CIA.

Exceptionally well-written (and just as exemplary, by the way, as author Brown does with Britain's analogue "C") and informative. Superb on WWII OSS operations in Europe. Author Brown explains much of what didn't already know, and fills-in wonderfully where we do.

Not short on pages, it captivates for just about every one of them.

What was the understanding then? That Hoover feared no one? You may disclose otherwise.

Good man, that Donovan. Good too, Brown, for work well done.

Last Week My Brother Anthony Died
This is a sad story. It is very touching and sensitive. This would be a good book to share with a child that has lost a loved one, but should not be used out of that context. It might help a young child cope with the death of a loved one and maybe understand that it is okay to miss them, but it is also okay to go on with their own life.

Subsequent artistic attempts at humanizing the don includes Analyze This and The Sopranos. Both of these productions feature the don characters in therapy. Valerio's use of the therapy device, though, is unique and visionary. It not only predates these films, but also shows the don in control, as therapist, not patient. This configuration emphasises the power of Italian-American culture to nurture individual identity. Johnny, the don, serves as cultural nursemaid to the reborn Italian-American, Nicholas.

Much can be said about the spectacular photography. But to capture the real beauty of the golf clubs, you need to read the text. For all of us who have enjoyed a pint in a dirty bar, this book captures the essence of the gentility of the game.
