Wonderful Summary!
Whether you stand for or against continuing the sanctions regime, this title is a must read. Easily the best summary of the current situation in Iraq presently available. The compendium of events in and of itself is of great value, but the greater value here is the insight provided into the strategy that Saddam Hussein is using to remove the sanctions.

Author's Review
When I wrote this book on Jamaica Plain, MA
I was amazed at the rich history of this neighborhood of Boston that was once a part of Roxbury and originally known as the Jamaica End of town. With the Arnold Arboretum, and the Bussey Institute, Jamaica Plain became part of the Emerald Necklace and retains a bucolic and suburban setting. Hopefully, a text history of Jamaica Plain will be written shortly to augment this
photographic history.

E.P. Dutton, a division of New American Library, NY
Sir, The publisher quoted in the title line holds the rights about JEAN DUNAND, by A. Delorenzo published in 1985. Now, as I am planning to reproduce a few excerpts from that book, I need to ask permission of the publisher. Jean Dunand was my grand-father. Would you be so kind as to provide me with the E-mail or Internet address of this publisher, for I do not know how to get in touch with them ? Yours sincerely.

PS. I am sorry to use the review form, but I did not find any way to contact you otherwise.

Job, Jonah, and the Unconscious

What an Incredible Synthesis Between Psychology and Theology
This is an amazing little book that presents the true underlying meaning of two of the Old Testament's most beloved books: Jonah and the Whale, and Story of Job. Both stories provide the author with extremely fertile ground for applying modern Jungian principles to ancient Biblical teachings. In the process, a brand new developmental approach to the problem of evil is gradually presented, all the way down to the reality of hell itself. No where else will the reader find such a psychologically rich description of hell and purgatory.

Joe Blow: The Extraordinary True Stories of an Ordinary Person

I Loved This Book!
The immediate irony of Joe Blow is its sub-title. What Mr. Herron has collected here are ordinary stories of an extraordinary person, stories which open and flower before us precisely because of the messages they are revealed to contain. Mr. Herron is a man of studied vision - a vision unveiled over and over throughout Joe Blow. By describing himself as an ordinary person, Mr. Herron has conceived a Trojan Horse, which carries us through stories of his life events as though they could easily have happened to us. They could have. Mr. Herron's message is that it is not the event that is defining but rather the recognition of the event in life's greater context. That is the secret of Joe Blow. Life - any life - can be as thrilling as a child's Easter egg hunt. Mr. Herron reminds us, in one hilarious story after another, that the eggs are already hidden, waiting for our personal discovery. Will we recognize them? After reading Joe Blow, there's a good chance you will.

Steven Okin is a short, syndicated columnist who, before reading Joe Blow, wished he were taller.

The exciting life of an exciting man!
If you want to get to know John Brown, his family, his life, his problems and his ways, you have to read this book, from his childhood to his death in Virginia after the raid of Harper's Ferry each station of his life is shown in detail (which makes it sometimes difficult to read with pure pleasure). Before I read this book I knew about Brown as a criminal, a fanatic, a murderer may be. Yes, he was... but you have to know what shaped him to be a fanatic and a murderer. His life was a struggle for freedom, and he was beat hard by life. He came on the wrong way or better: He went too far on the right one. This is a very exciting and helpful book! Just read it!

John Lennon 101
Musicians, writers, artists and fans alike should read this candid biopic into the lives of John & Yoko during the prime of their lives and populariy. They were involved. They were controversial. They were naive. They were important and outspoken... and most of all, vulnerable. Anthony Fawcett was more than sympathetic... he was privileged to find himself involved at a time when the magic of John Lennon transcended who he even thought he was. Forever dispells the silly myth that Yoko, Linda or anything other than John's decision broke up the Beatles.

Journey into Darkness

Journey Into Darkness
"Journey Into Darkness" is a remarkable first work. During the height of the Bosnia-Herzegovina conflict, the US found itself in the awkward position of trying to retrieve a computer disk that could influence the outcome of this "situation." They send in Bill Craig, a computer expert with minimal combat training. When he is trapped by an unexpected combat patrol, he is rescued by a young, pint-sized guerrilla. Through a series of adventures and missteps across the Bosnian contryside, Craig realizes the extent of his own involvement and the dynamics of this war.

This book is a chronicle of one man's journey into darkness and another's struggle to overcome the crimes against humanity. It will tug at your conscience and your heartstrings; it will have you eagerly anticipating the next page, the next chapter. It will have you on the edge of your chair.

So, settle down for a weekend of intrigue and adventure! You won't regret it! nfp

Portraits of Joyce as a Young Dog
OK, so I basically stole the title for this review from Dylan Thomas (another author to read!). At any rate, it seems this oversized book is out of print, although Amazon.com will try to find it for you. If they can't...

122 pages of fascinating photos, drawings, manuscript revisions, and quotes by Joyce; statues, drawings, photos, and even stamps of Joyce! The prints are excellent, and help you feel like you know the man (and family) just a little bit better. Originally published at $39.95 (a price for Joyce fans only, I think), its new low cost makes it an excellent purchase for all interested in literature and/or photography. I haven't seen the $72 "Images of Joyce," (sold at Amazon) but this well-designed book, showing Joyce at various ages and locations, is well worth looking for.
