Our children's all time favorite book!!
This book is SO charming and enchanting! The story is easy to follow and entertaining for the whole family. We got our copy years ago and have read it hundreds of times- the children and I never tire of it and now I'm buying copies to put away for the grandchildren! The drawings are adorable, the language is grammatically correct (a nice change from all the slang in current books) and there is actually a whole traditional family portrayed (also hard to find in new books). Good morals and values are encouraged (the elf WORKS for what he wants!) and the whole family shows gratitude and compassion. In a word- WONDERFUL!

A revealing story of unrelenting war at sea
John Hutchinson was a Radioman First Class during the Pacific Campaign of World War II and in Bluejacket: In Harm's Way From Guadalcanal To Tokyo recounts his experiences and observations of those dramatic times. He tells of his own personal participation in the battles for the Solomons, the Marianas, the Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. A revealing story of unrelenting war at sea and a sailor's contribution toward the defeat of Japan, this totally engaging military biography reads as smoothly as any novel and as dramatically as any Hollywood film. Bluejacket is a welcome and much appreciated memoir and a very highly recommended contribution to the growing body of descriptive literature on the Pacific engagements of World War II.

The antidote to idle gossip and Susan Faludi
Women will find Mason's book irresistable; men will find it infuriatingly accurate.

Great fun throughout. Written with wit and syle, this is a book to read aloud to house guests.

Perfect as a gift for newlyweds, particularly if one is male.

More than three hundred short meditations
Ably translated and with an informative introduction by Orthodox Christian Priest John Anthony McGuckin (Professor of Early Church History, Union Theological Seminary, New York City), The Book Of Mystical Chapters: Meditations On The Soul's Ascent From The Desert Fathers And Other Early Christian Contemplatives is a hallowed collection of more than three hundred short meditations written by Christians from the second through the fourteenth centuries. Many of these meditations were written by the Desert Fathers, monks who deliberately left behind the corruption of city life for the isolated deserts of Egypt and Palestine. These brief yet moving and heartfelt meditations focus upon practice, theory, gnosis, embracing spiritual enlightenment, and the expansion of one's mind and soul. The Book Of Mystical Chapters is very highly recommended reading for all serious students of Christian Theology, History, and Spirituality, regardless of denominational background or affiliation.

enthusiasts should read this, too know of brownsville's hist
i have to say that milo kearney does a great job in documenting the history of brownsville, and matamoros. everything has a beginning, and this Professor of Historical sciences at the University of Texas at Brownsville does a fantastic job. The only thing that is really not good are the illustrations by petr Gawendra. they are really non enthusiastic, and super cheezy. i dont care what any one else says,a lousy effort. any way the book is worth it, for any one who wants to find out the history of this city [brownsville]this book is for you. Antonio Knopp also contributed to this literature work.

the best book on borromini
This book offers an excellent introduction both to the architecture of Francesco Borromini and the architecture of the Italian Baroque. Particularly useful are the comparisons between antique and renaissance architecture (particularly Michelangelo). An indispebsable book for anyone interested in Baroque or Italian architecture in general.

Extraordinarily Well Done!
As a displaced native of the Brandywine Valley and a frequent visitor, I found this book to be a delicious portrayal of a unique area. The photography is generous, rich and superb. The reader feels as if he is truly a part of the spectacular rolling hills and historic homes that make the Brandywine a treasure. The text is informative and accurate. After reading this book, one will indeed have an "insider's" view of the region and its special composition of residents, history and natural beauty. Through many years, I have collected several volumes related to the Brandywine Valley. This one is by far my favorite. I have purchased several copies as gifts for friends who cherish the area as much as I, many of whom are long-time residents of the region. They all have related their pleasure and joy with the content of the book. In summation, an excellent effort which I highly recommend. Well done! William Sydnor
