A classic and a bargain at that
I lost my original copy during my last move. Therefore, I was overjoyed that an inexpensive paperback version had been printed. A must for the numerical analyst's library.

good intermediate text on numerical analysis
This is a good intermediate text on numerical analysis. The development of the underlying real variable theory is much more rigorous than the closely related and more recent text "Numerical Recipes in C". Also, there is more attention paid to function theoretic considerations such as notions of continuity and compactness. This is basically an introductory numerical functional analysis textbook. There are numerous good examples sprinkled throughout the text. To get the most out of this book, you need a working knowledge of advanced calculus, real analysis and linear algebra.

Simply the best you can get (at this price)
This is the republication of the 2nd edition published by McGraw-Hill, 1978, with minor corrections. This Dover edition also includes 50 pages of Hints and Answers to Problems, which is very helpful. It is one of the 14 reference books listed in the Numerical Recipe in C: The Art of Scientific Computing, and the authors of the Recipe book says, of the 14 books, "These are the books that we like to have within easy reach." A. Ralston, of SUNY Buffalo, also co-wrote a book, Discrete Algorithmic Mathematics(DAM), which is easy and fun to read. But I am puzzled by the words - "Well-known and highly regarded even by those who have never used it." - on the back cover of the A K Peters edition of DAM. What do they mean?

Intense, accurate, humorous
First of all this "self-help" book reads like a novel. Secondly it is clinically accurate. Third, and most interesting, is that the story is not written in the "third person" (like most other books of this type). Maybe because the story is true or maybe because it is a personal account of the "doctor's own experience, or maybe because the book is a "guide" through the difficult process of learning how to heal a broken heart that made me enjoy the book so much. It did move me to write this review. Whatever the reason, "Forgiving Dad" is interesting, entertaining and genuinely a great read.

A powerful story of love, healing, and moving on
Forgiving Dad: A Therapist's Journey To Forgiveness is the testimony of Anthony T. Campo, a therapist and faithful son whose birthday was devastated by the death of his father in 1992. Opening the path of his long journey through grief, anger, denial, and forgiveness, Forgiving Dad is a powerful story of love, healing, and moving on past misery to emotional wellness. Forgiving Dad is especially recommended reading for anyone struggling with issues of love, loss, and the need to come to terms with their own troubled past.

Gar Wood Boats: Classics of a Golden Era
At the National Boating History Symposium in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 17, 2001, "Gar Wood Boats: Classics of a Golden Era," was selected as The Classic Boating Book-of-the-Year for 2001 by the National Boating Museum, Washington, DC. This prestigious selection is made annually to the book that contributes significant original research and valuable historic information related to boat building, design and performance. As the author of this book, I am pleased to share this information with potential readers.

An Excellent Portrayal of Classic Boating
A Wonderful Portrayal of Classic Wooden Boating A one of a kind historic journey with Gar Wood, one of the pioneers of motorized wooden boating. The author's insight and knowledge of the subject is quite evident in page after page of the book. The pictures and illustrations are exquisite and beautiful to look at. This is a must read for anyone who loves classic boating, boating in general and American history, as you are taken on an epic journey with one of America's leading industrialists of a Golden Era. My kudos to the author for a job well done and express my hope that boaters across the nation will add this tome to their maritime libraries!!!

The best children's book!
This is a very, very good book for children. I just startedreading it this morning (Have not yet finished.), but already it issooooo good! I love this book and think you will too!

An intersting book for kids under 11
It's summer in Oakdale and Sam, David, Joe, and of course, Wishbone are all talking about their plans for the summer. Sam's dad gets a call from his friend -Tom- at his new pizza place. It turns out that Tom just bought an old summer camp and wanted to know if Sam's dad knew anyone who could be a counselor there because he was three short. Next thing ya know Joe, David, and Sam are in the car on their way to camp Ka Nowato. They step out of the and onto what seem like the deserted grounds of Camp Ka Nowato. Around the corner a boy and a girl walk around the corner. Their names are Rebbeca and Jeremy. Soon after two blue school buses drive into the parking lot. Tom is driving one of these buses. When Wishbone is invited to stay at Camp Ka Nowato. He gladly excepts and is deemed camp guard dog. His job is not an easy one and it doesn't get any easier when some spooky things start happening at Camp Ka Nowato. Is it really the ghost of Ka Nowato, the guardian of the Chitowa sacred burial ground or is it just some pranksters? find out when you read this great, lightly spooky, quite mysterious, interestin and absorbing book.

I enjoyed this can't put down Wishbone Super mystery book.
The Ghost of Camp Ka Nowato

The story takes place in early summer, mostly at Camp Ka Nowato, in the woods near a lake. Joe, Sam and David (from the Wishbone T.V. series) are counsellors at the camp. Someone starts playing pranks and it's up to them and Wishbone, the guard dog, to find out who is playing the pranks. I enjoyed reading the book. I was curious to see what would happen next. I recommend it for kids who like to read chapter books. This Super Mystery has longer chapters than the Wishbone Mysteries Books, but it is no harder to read.

Gloria, the Christmas Angel
Outstanding book! The story of a "not so perfect" angel and how she ends up announcing the birth of Christ is concise, elegant and delightful! The illustrations are perfect and fit the story. I collect children's books and was thrilled to find this gem!

Not Just for Children
God works in veiled and mysterious ways often choosing the marginalized, the overlooked, and the simple to do His bidding and His most important works. In Gloria the Christmas Angel, author Scott Asalone captures the true spirit of the season which is all about discovering and celebrating our purpose in life. Anyone, not just children, will appreciate the heart warming classic tale this story will become!

A wonderfully deightful Christmas picturebook story.
Gloria is a rather klutzy angel who feels unfit and forgotten. But deep down inside herself, Gloria finds the power to believe in herself when no one else does and meets a child born in poverty who turns out to be the son of God. Because she can see beyond appearances, Gloria not only brings the good news to the poor, she also announces that it is the people of poverty who are also God's own children. Gloria: The Christmas Angel is a wonderfully delightful Christmas picturebook story for young readers ages 4 to 8 that is both entertaining and profound.

Winner, Best Book in Education
Gobo won the Best Book in Education Award this year from Independent Publisher.

A great tool to empower students and teachers alike
I am not a neutral reviewer. I am Lawrence Baines' brother. I am also not a teacher, though education has long been an intense passion of mine. For ten years now I have been a member and officer of SEAL (Society for Effective and Affective Learning). I have always admired Lawrence's many creative pursuits in music and art, and have long wondered just why he had decided to lend his great passion and enthusiasm to traditional education. The answer is that the field of education in which he works is a long way from traditional education. He is a revolutionary who continually seeks to bring that, perhaps, childish delight and joy of learning back into the classroom. Going Bohemian is a delightful collaboration of a group of very competent and passionate people who are all committed to empowering education and to making it more efficient, effective and fun for all concerned. There is no dry education theory in this book. It is a collection of very compelling ideas to fire and hold the attention of student and teacher alike. As I read it, I got excited as I turned page after page which I could vividly see transforming the boring thing which I have long considered traditional education to be. You can't go wrong. Buy, read, and use this book. Robert Baines

Going Bohemian a Must for Language Arts Classes
Going Bohemian is an excellent resource for the classroom teacher. Its innovative suggestions for enhancing the writing assignments in English class are state-of-the-art and will excite both students and teachers. I have tried several of the writing projects with my students, and I enjoy the enthusiasm with which they have been met. The variety, freshness, and appeal to adolescent interests of Bohemian's writing assignments should make it a staple in language arts classrooms.

Gorilla

Sad (for adults) heart warming story. Beautiful drawings.
My son (5) and I love this story and so does any kid I read this story to. We love it mostly because of the beautiful drawings (some sad, some funny) which are sensitive and full of little details that enrich the tale. Check out the incredible caged sad monkey (no need of words) or the funny "Super Gorilla" picture. We also like the text that is simple and straightforward on one hand but relies heavily on the pictures for further layers of understanding. Adults can argue about the subject of this story - I personally think it is about human relations (what's important) - but heard other say it is about fear (?) but all this is unimportant - kids and adults alike are drawn to the amazing drawings and can sense the richness of this book. Gorillas are sure to become your favorite animals.

Anthony Browne has a special magic
I am a fan of Anthony Browne's illustrations and I am sad that so many of his books are out of print. But Gorilla is a great one to own. The picures repay study, as they are full of wonderful details. The story itself is poignant, with a hopeful ending.

A WONDERFUL NIGHT! A WONDERFUL BOOK!
Popular author/illustrator Anthony Browne has garnered enough accolades to fill many a shelf: the international Hans Christian Andersen Award, the Kurt Moschler Award three times, and the Kate Greenaway Medal twice. We are reminded of how richly deserved these honors are with "Gorilla," a warmly satisfying story of the bond between a young girl and an animal.

Gorillas are the love of Hannah's life and her heart's desire is to see a real one. Regrettably, her father is either too tied up or too weary to take her to the zoo. When Hannah asked him a question, his usual reply was, "Not now. I'm busy. Maybe tomorrow."

But, did you know that surprises can take place on a birthday? Hannah had asked her father for a gorilla and, sure enough, he gave her one but it was only a toy. She tossed it aside and fell fast asleep.

She was awakened in the middle of the night by a smiling gorilla who invited her to go to the zoo. She wasn't at all frightened, and eagerly joined him. That was just the beginning of their nocturnal adventure.

It was a wonderful night that Hannah will never forget, nor will young readers soon forget this happy, imaginative tale.

A Pleasant Pastiche
Nigel Bruce's Watson is a loveable bumbler--quite a contrast to Conan Doyle's capable but unimaginative Watson. The stories tend to be somewhat contrived and suffer in comparison to the BBC productions of original Doyle stories in which Clive Morrison starred as Holmes. The organ music gets monotonous, and if I weren't already a teetotaler, the wine commercials would make me take the temperance pledge. Despite all that, the productions are wonderfully entertaining. Basil Rathbone's Holmes exceeds Clive Morrison's overacted Holmes as the day exceeds the night. The chemistry between Bruce and Rathbone is perfect, and the simple stories move swiftly to their satisfying (if somewhat obvious) conclusions. Although Holmes purists tend to hate Nigel Bruce's Watson, I found him to be irresistably likeable. I'd want Doyle's Watson guarding my back in a tight spot, but I'd rather sit by the fireplace and swap stories with Bruce's Watson. I particularly liked the host's introductory visits with Watson in which Watson sets the stage for the mysteries.

the best in live radio
having been born 30 years after the recording of these great radio classics, i feel like I was there during the original broadcasts. Basil rathbone and nigel bruce are surpurb in there roles as holmes and watson. a must have for any sherlock holmes fan.

Gun Owner's Common Sense
As a state certified Concealed Handgun Instructor in Texas, I am most indebted to Mr. Korwin and his research staff for the very thorough presentation of Texas and U.S. Federal legislation. Not only are the statutes presented in an orderly manner, there are ancillary laws that are thoroughly discussed -- both are presented in legalese and in layman's terms so that the unannoited may understand fully what is being laid out in the law.

I require that all my clients purchase his Texas Law book when they sign up for my course. It has proven to be immeasurably necessary to gaining a more complete understanding between what the written law states and what the courts choose to interpret from that law.

Mr. Korwin's book on Gun Laws of America will help you keep out of harms way from laws in states that do not have certification courses such as those available in Texas. Be very aware of Federal legislations that can destroy your freedom if you do not know of them. My best to all of you that wish to protect yourself and at the same time do not want to become an unwitting criminal in doing so. These books by Mr. Korwin, and those he recommends, are a must for gun owners across America. Add them to your personal library and knowledge base if you wish to become an informed and sanely secure gun owner.

Most comprehensive book on US gun laws ever written
Every federal gun law in America word - for - word, with that unique "gist" that only Korwin can do. A must for any person interested in the subject and an excellent compliment to his position paper

All the federal gun statutes, with plain English translation
Have you ever wondered exactly what the Brady Bill does? Or how the Clinton gun ban law defines "assault weapon"? Answers to these questions, and many, many others can be found in a fine new book Gun Laws of America. Written by Alan Korwin and Michael P. Anthony, Gun Laws of America is a citizens' legal guide to every federal gun control law on the books today. Even gun law experts will be impressed with the breadth and scope of this book, which includes the first federal gun control which is still on the books (a 1894 statute authorizing the forfeiture of firearms used for illegal hunting in Yellowstone National Park). And then there's the first real "gun control" statute within the modern meaning of gun control: a 1927 statute outlawing mail-order handgun sales. The authors do more than just provide the full text of every federal gun control statute. At the beginning of each statute, they also provide a plain-English summary of the statute, so that a non-lawyer can get the gist of it. In addition to the well-known gun control laws, the authors also supply information about the huge variety of less-known laws. For example, did you know that if you use food stamps to buy firearms or ammunition, you will be permanently disqualified from the food stamp program? I had never realized that a legal resident alien who violates any firearm statute (including the most trivial municipal ordinance) can be deported for the violation. Handloaders and other folks who purchase gunpowder will be interested in federal statutes involving explosives. Did you know that the Secretary of the Treasury (who oversees the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) has the authority to enter onto and investigate any site where an explosion has occurred? Persons concerned about local control of the schools will be surprised to find a federal law requiring that public schools expel any student who brings a gun onto school property. And of course there is the heart of the federal gun control laws: sections 921 through 930 of volume 18 of the United States Code. This law came into being as the Gun Control Act of 1968. It outlaws all interstate firearms sales, with a few exceptions. Having been modified by the Firearms Owners Protection Act (1986), the Brady Act (1993), and the Clinton Crime Bill (1994), the federal gun statutes are now quite complex, with cross-references piling up one on the other. Gun Laws takes you through these laws step-by-step, so that you can see precisely what the federal government outlaws, and what it doesn't. You will also find little-known provisions that may be quite important to you. For example, as the result of an NRA amendment to the Brady Act, airlines which ship your firearms in checked baggage have to put the "firearm tag" on the inside of the case, so as not to make the case a target for theft. The other major part of the federal gun control system is the National Firearms Act of 1934, which requires a special tax stamp to possess machine guns, short shotguns, and short rifles, and which also sets up a federal excise tax system for firearms manufacturers. One particularly interesting part of the book traces the rise in the volume of federal gun control laws. Before the Roosevelt Administration, there were hardly any such laws. Since the 1960s, huge numbers of gun laws have been enacted every decade by Congress. Review by Dave Kopel, Independence Institute, http://i2i.org.

The definitive Harrier book
I work on the Harrier at their birthplace of Dunsfold England, and can assure anyone who is interested in the Harrier that you will not find a finer book than this. It goes into depth and detail that i have never seen before. I have not found a single mistake in it's facts.

Go and buy it before it disappears all together. The publisher has informed me that the book is now officially out of print. So grab it whilst you can.

the ultimate Harrier book
I have read many books about the harrier, and this is the best. Covering the early history, its use by all the military services associated with it, the wars in which it fought, and future developement of the aircraft; this is the ultimate Harrier book. The book contains more facts and photos than are available from any other single source. A must for airplane afficionados. One downside- black and white photos only.

Marvalous!
I have a friend who fancies himself a plane buff. We have a bet... I say the Harrier's origins are in the British Kestrel. He insists there is no such animal... even though two British pilot told him so at an air show we attended today.

Could you, PLEASE, email him at... harveybc@mindspring.com with a cc: to me at... salscyn@ptd.net ASAP with an answer as to just who is right.

Thank you, Sal Latina
