Anthony Asadullah Samad writes from his heart. This is a book about rebirth and the changes that he went thru to become who he is today. It's about being an advocate for his people at all cost. It should be required reading for African American Studies everywhere. It will captures you from the beginning until the end. Excellent debut Mr. Samad.

best and most up-to-date review on the challenges facing sa
I have read many books concerning South Africa and the political and economic problems that the country and its people have experienced since the end of Apartheid. This, by far, is the most interesting, comprehensive, and easy to understand book on the subject. Highly reccommended !!!

Great cultural history
A book assigned in many graduate courses on Southeast Asian history, "The land below the winds", gives the student an interesting look at day to day life in Southeast Asia from the arrival of the Western Europeans(1450-1680). Painstakingly researched, the book enjoys pointing out that in many ways the SE Asians had much more modern cultural practices than the "smelly" Europeans. Reid explores in each chapter seperate cultural criteria such as: physical well-bieng, material culture, social organization and lastly festivals and amusements. A myriad of topics are covered from sexual ambiguity and practices to military combat and diplomacy. Interesting tid bits abound and the book makes good reading for both the student and general reader. This is the best of the current offerings in the field and I highly recommend it.

A good companion to the first volume with great photos
I bought this book because I enjoyed the first volume so much (see my review for Southern Pacific's Coast Line.)

However, the second volume might be a bit of a letdown to those expecting something similar to the first volume. Signor indeed covered it all the first time around, and therefore does not attempt to do it again in this volume. Southern Pacific's Coast Line Pictorial is exactly what it professes to be, a companion edition that has some great photos. There are over 600 photographs; 140 of which are in color. Richard Steinheimer fans will like this book as 85 of Stein's photographs made it into the book.

I never did verify if there were pictures reprinted in the second volume that also appeared in the first, but if there were, their numbers were small based on my recollection.

The bottom line is that if you loved the first volume of Southern Pacific's Coast Line, then you should buy this volume too. It isn't the narrative with pictures that the first one is, but it compliments the first book nicely. It's priced high but worth it if you're looking for memories of the SP and its premier passenger line. You can always check out Signature Press' website for the description on this book that Amazon seems to be lacking.

A pretty good textbook with material not found elsewhere
If you are considering buying this book, you will probably want to do so. If you are interested in applying regional analysis or the "new" spatial economics that they present, you will have a good starting point. The necessary background is probably be a year of Ph.D. level economic theory. Specific high points are the exposition of the Dixit-Stiglitz model of monopolistic competition and the evolution of urban systems. All new Ph.D. students will have a use for chapter 4, which is an easy-to-read discussion of monopolistic competition. Further, the book is rigorous enough to be used in academic work. I recommend it to anyone interested in regional or urban economics. It is useful to students and practicing economists alike. Its rigor makes it academic, but its ease of exposition makes it useful for those without extraordinary math backgrounds. Compared to similar books, you get a lot of value for the price.

a great book fot the classic racecars fan
it is a verry special book with the sport and racecar manufactures who started in a small garage and developed to a famous marque. There are also marques who never realy mate it in the race scene for exampel: beart-rodger, buckler, halseylec and nomad. from every marque are all the cars presented in the book and that's why it is great book for the people who like the classic racecars.

Required entry in fly fisher's library
Varga has written the definitive piscatorial apologetic text. Blast those books on hatches and big-shouldered fish, The Spiritual Fly Fisher mines the stream-seeking pscyhe and returns pure gold.

You'll need two copies -- one for home man-cave and the other (field-stained and dog-earred) for streamside enlightenment.

Food for thought and nourishment for the soul.
I find myself since the age of 19 referring to this book for guidance and refocusing to keep my soul on the right path. It rings as true now as it did then 40 years later.
