This book uses reprints of recent news-breaking stories of archeological discoveries to provide fascinating glimpses of past civilizations. The scope of these glimpses varies from peasants to royalty, from the Old World to the New World of the Americas, and from 117,000 years ago (Humans' Earliest Footprints Discovered) to 1944 (the sinking of the Japanese submarine I-52 with more than two tons of gold aboard).

The stories unflinchingly portray ancient human nature, a nature not so different from modern humans. For example, archeological remains often tell gruesome tales of human suffering and sacrifices. However, some ancient remains are poignant, such as a child's footprint left in the soft clay beside a hearth at Monte Verde (southern Chile) 12,500 years ago.

The book was a fun read. As a bonus to me, it provided some background for the archeological aspects of a novel I am writing.

This book is recommended reading for anyone interested in a fresh approach to the workings of the mind one of the greatest philosophers of the 20th century.
It is a selection of 338 letters written by Bertrand Russell between 1914 and 1970. Sifting though more than 40,000 letters is no simple feat. Fortunately the editor is Nicholas Griffin, director of the Bertrand Russel Research Center at McMaster University in Ontario. As editor of Russell's "Collected Papers", he is in an enviable position to provide us with the juiciest tidbits of Russell's dry humour, as well as a portrait of a passionate man.
The editor commentaries to the letters are useful in order to better understand and put in perspective some events and people mentioned by this very extraordinary thinker. One that you have to know well, if you are to understand how could he write in 1967
that "a great deal of work has come upon me, neglect of which might jeopardise the continuation of the human being......" Kudos to the editor.

This two volume set is essential for the Forster scholar. Edited by Mary Lago, one of the foremost Forster scholars, it contains some of the highlights of his voluminous correspondence. Up until his death in 1970, Forster wrote up to twelve letters (!) a day, many of which are stored in the Forster archives at Kings College in Cambridge, England. Dr. Lago painstakingly sifted through those massive archival files and translated Forster's unique penmanship and wonderful letter writing style into a lovely, insightful, and entertaining two-volume set of correspondence.

I loved this book. It is truly a classic. Keats is long before my time, however his work that he left behind is still here and leaves a big mark on the world of poets. Wanting to be a journalist myself, and having a hunger for literature, Keats' book was quite inspiring. I recommend it for any poet. One of my favorites is, of course, "When I have fears that I may Cease To Be."

The book and software provide an easy way to gain an understanding of the physics involved in the complicated world of semiconductor devices.

this book is wonderful because not many books describe the way that persian royals lived, how life in the royal court was, and what happened to the court after the revoulotion.

This wonderful book features historic Shaker style crafts and old-style Shaker recipes for both adults and children. Some of the crafts and recipes require intermediate skills or better so the book is really for those 9 years old and up.
