Exploring the Solar System
Outstanding pictures from decades of space research are the main feature of this book. The lively text avoids numbers and math, sometimes using factoids rather than numerical values. The illustrations include actual pictures and computer enhanced or artist conceptions of various space missions. The text is dotted with interesting historical tidbits about those missions and the people involved. But the real reason to get this book is for the wonderful illustrations. The printing quality and color reproductions are outstanding.

Gentle and refreshing
Discouragement is not a major psychological condition, yet few people would not admit to experiencing it from time to time. In this small volume, counselor and spiritual director Kathleen Fischer discusses several different causes for discouragement, offers both hope and suggestions for resolution, and includes well-chosen Scripture readings or prayers. A deceptively simple and refreshing book, one to return to again and again.

Introduction to Alvin's Epistemology
"Faith and Rationality" is not a layperson's book (what did you expect!). This is the introduction to the whole notion of "reformed epistemology." The essays are composed by Alston, Mavrodes, Wolsterstorff, Plantinga, Marsden, and D. Holwerda. The theme of the book begins with the rejection of "classical foundationalism," which is later supplemented by an agument for God's existence (God's existence is properly basic). I was very surprised and intrigued by D. Holwerda's essay. His eerie essay critiques Wolfhart Pannenburg's theology and thought on the Resurrection of Christ. Good book before reading Alvin Plantinga's Warrant series.

Family pictures from angles you'd never consider
I bought this book after Mr Nixon came to our house to take portraits of my husband and me for a current project. I hadn't known his work before and was intrigued when I saw the big turn-of-the-century camera!
This book shows pictures of Mr Nixon's children and wife in everyday situations, incredibly direct, sincere, and humorous - you feel like you're there with them, only unseen, a ghost invading their family warmth.

An exciting thriller that is even good for you!
Eckert's Fatal Encounter explains in great detail the interesting circumstances surrounding the deaths of three young members of the IRA in Gibralter, off the coast of Spain. The three young operatives were killed in a raid in 1988 by elite British commandos called the SAS. From here, an unbelievable chain of events are unleashed that involves pain, heartache, disbelief and anger. While arguments can be made for both sides on who was in the right, Eckert leaves that choice solely to the reader. He pays great attention to detail; and when these details are woven together objectively, it allows the reader to determine for him or herself what made these main players act or react. Even if you don't endorse the beliefs of one side or another, you at least had the rare insight that made you emphathetic. This is a solid and accurate piece of history. But as the reader gets more involved, it would be quite understandable if you thought you were smack dab in the middle of a Tom Clancy novel.
I would recommend this book for both history buffs, and those who just want to read a great thriller.

Definitely worth reading - brilliant insight into Russia
I thought both books in this saga were extremely good, and the descriptive passages about Tsar Nicholas 1's Russia are incredible. I was on holiday and searching for trashy novels in the local library to pass the time, and found these instead. A very welcome surprise! Does anyone know if there are any more books after 'Fleur', because if there are, I'll be buying them a.s.a.p

Lots of Adorable Surprises
Elmo is asleep with his stuffed dalmation and dreaming that he, Zoey, Grover, and Tele are all firefighters. With Zoey at the wheel, the adorable Sesame Street monsters hurry off to fight a fire and rescue Cookie Monster, Oscar, and some kittens.
My toddler loves fire trucks and Sesame Street, so I bought this book without even really looking at it. It exceeded my expectations by far. On each page there are at least 2 or 3 flaps to lift, which is more than you'll find in most "lift the flap" books. The illustrations are wonderful and detailed, the story is humorous throughout, and it's not a bit scary, even during the rescue scenes.

Secret Vices
This short book served as a catalogue for an exhibition at the Tate in London in 1999 and is one of the more sensitive explorations into Francis Bacon's artistic thoughts. Though known to approach unfixed canvas (in his much talked about trashy studio) with brush and paint and palette knife in hand and attack his story until it was complete, Bacon actually spent a considerable amount of time sketching ideas which often became his huge scaled painting. David Sylvester opens this Pandora's box with a pithy introduction and Matthew Gale presents a sophisticated, scholarly examination of this heretofore unknown aspect of Francis Bacon. The plates of the sketches, all included in the atalogue, prove startling even to the most ardent Baconophile. This is a treasure chest of nascent thought and aborted ideas.....and makes for splendid reading.
