The Chronicles of Narnia: The Patterning of a Fantastic World (Children's and Young Adult Literature)

WOW
i was very disappointed by this book. It was full of pornography! The phallic imagery was totally uncalled for! When i want narnia i want cool little mice with swords not butt-sex! Man!

Good, but not great.
If you're looking for a fantastic book, that details symbolism and much more more from C.S. Lewis' classic works, The Chronicles of Narnia, I suggest you try "Journey Into Narnia" by Kathryn Lindskoog or "Companion to Narnia" by Paul Ford. At times this book was boring and tended to drag along. Its a fine book, but others are better.

Not bad, but...
I read this to get an idea of the steps to take in setting up my own S corporation. While this does take you through the steps of incorporating in Delaware, it reads more like an infomercial. The author has a business set up to incorporate you in Delaware, and will do it cheaper than his competitors, says the book. However, it is not very helpful if you want to incorporate in any other state.

Good for novices, old info
I was immediately put off by the old information in a fast changing area of practice. No usable forms, not a real how-to, just a primer

Not much ado about health
Not a bad book, but the title and subtitle are wrong. It starts with the obligatory 2 chapters on Watson, Hazeltine, and Venter that anyone can read on any number of web sites, so it really doesn't get going until page 90, and then the last two chapters are the obligatory angel/devil arguments of morality that almost anyone can write at this point. What's left in the middle has problems with repetition and lack of focus. There are one or two really interesting factoids in this book, but zero insight and no real value. (...)

Of historical interest, but late to the real debate
Wade, who writes science articles for the New York Times, has documented in this book the personalities and the sequence of events leading up to the publication of the first draft of the Human Genome in June of 2000. No doubt the real history behind this project will be more thoroughly explored by historians some day, and Wade's compedium of journalism will count as a major contribution to this scholarly effort.

He doesn't quite understand the real implications of applied genomics technology, however. While he does seem personally intrigued by the prospect of regenerative medicine, radical rejuvenation and life extension made possible by applied genomics (in other words, he's not impressed by Leon R. Kass's argument for the "wisdom of repugnance" regarding human transformation), at the same time he's intimidated by psychological scarecrows about the allegedly bad social consequences this scenario could cause. Our social institutions are currently organized around people dying "on schedule," as horrific as that sounds, so Wade wonders what would happen if people were to live well past 100 in good physical and cognitive health.

For one thing, considering that people's social skills tend to improve with age and experience, a world run by "ultramature" people couldn't be run any worse than the way our world is now. Life-extended entrepreneurs could continue to create new businesses, wealth and jobs (especially important considering that honest financial success is not a zero-sum situation). Life-extended statesmen could resolve conflicts and finally create a decent international political order. Life-extended environmentalists could study changes in the biosphere over longer intervals and warn of potential dangers. Etc.

Cryonicists long ago worked out the social and psychological implications of radical life extension, and to a degree that puts Wade's speculations to shame. For example, refer to the book, _Forever for All_, by R. Michael Perry.

Grrrrr...:(
I should have known better than to buy this book.. What IS it with this writer and sexual assualt?! In every book I've read by him, some guy attempts to rape the main character! I realize that it's important to talk about these things, but jeez, in every book?! That really irritated me, so I haven't read anymore books by him. The main girl is always sickeningly sweet, and the plot is usually flat or just plain improbable.

Cara is being stalked . Who is doing it ? Read to find out.
This book was very interesting. It kept me in suspense about what was going to happen next. For example Cara was being chased, as she climbed a gate to get away from her attacker. Silence overfell the scene. What happened to him? Where did he go? Read the book to find out.

Good reference but awfully expensive
Buy this book if you have deep pockets and will indeed open your own bank. But again, if you have that kind of money, chances are that you are already familiar with the nuts-n-bolts of the banking industry, in which case the book will not be of much use. In my opinion this book would be most useful for the banking industry analysts...

Not Enough
This book has a good promise but ultimately falls short of covering what the title proclaims. First of all, the version I got didnt have the games attached to the book. This was sad, since the author spends some precious pages describing the rules of the games I did not get. There are only 64 pages in this book. I actually found the text very interesting, but the illustrations kill this book. Its simly a collection of bad quality black and white engravings and sketches from the period, plus some heraldic designs IN BLACK AND WHITE. Some original illustrations, ala Osprey would have been much nicer. Oh, and by the way, not a single word on medieval wargames. Terence Wise has a much cheaper book about medieval warfare, that has a nice section on wargames. And it was much cheaper.

Only a companion to baroque organs and uneven.
Those who are used to the Oxford series of "Companions" will be surprised to find this Cambridge Companion is not an encyclopedic reference book. It is a collection of articles on a broad range of topics--construction, esthetics, performance technique and the repertoire--with a very uneven level. Some articles address the basics (sit up straight while you are playing) while others assume that you know everything already (off hand references to organs you should know about.) Almost all the organs discussed in any depth are the German-Dutch baroque instruments and their modern replicas, with just a few words on large romantic instruments. In sum, it may be an interesting "read" for the connoisseur, but it isn't very useful as a reference for the interested amateur.

Attractive, but flawed
This is a handsome personal view of world railways, past and present, by an author with no hidden agendas. The author's style is clearly polemical, and none the worse for that. The illustrations are interesting and attractive. However, don't use it as a work of reference. The author has been let down badly by his editors and verifiers, and the book is littered with mistakes and inconsistencies. For instance, every railway fan knows the Stockton & Darlington Railway opened in 1825: this book gives 1824, 1825 and 1825 on three separate pages; it spells the name of the architect Philip Hardwicke in two different ways on the same page; another railway, described as cable-hauled, clearly uses locomotives in the illustration a few pages away; another picture purports to describe an electric loco as a diesel, and actually illustrates a driving luggage van! Buy the book for the attractiveness of the illustrations and the robustness of the author's views, but take the captions and the text with a large pinch of salt.

This is a No No!
Let me see. If you think about buying this book. Forget it. It's a No No! The context are dull and boring. Believe it or not, this book really IS BAD! This is more like a history copy.
