Main Idea of The Book: Intimacy determines the language!
This is a book that you can find a lot of explanations of French language which is classified into 3 main groups: R1, R2 & R3. The book explains that R1: very informal usage, R2: polite, but normal and R3:very formal(such as when you talk with the "big boss")...So by this classification you learn how to say sth. in an appropriate way depending on your situation. It is very useful, if you are thinking of living in France.

The first time I wet my pants in years
I read this book at night and was so scared that I didn't want to get out of bed to pee. It brought back some wonderful memories of my childhood but cleaning it up was a pain. Also, my wife was pretty upset. I was almost successful blaming it on her but the center of the stain gave me away.

I have used a lot of these creatures in my space/fantasy/old west campaign. The creatures are very creative and the outstanding artwork alone is reason enough to buy this book.

I didn't really wet my bed. But I thought about it. Maybe tonight...

An enormous state crammed into 200 pages.
Each community in Alaska could easily fill a volume this size with descriptions of the recreational opportunities in the area. This book does a decent job boiling those opportunities down to just a few in each region. This book covers the Kenai Peninsula and Anchorage area fairly well. It does not do Southeast Alaska justice though. (But I'm biased since I live there!) Instead of planning a trip around this book I would recommend contacting individual communities to get copies of any trail guides they have available.

Regimental History - King's African Rifles
This is an excellently researched and well compiled history of the King's African Rifles. The author has been most diligent in including the detail of the history of the various battalions - and the other associated units from the region. For the most part, however, the reminiscences of former officers have been dredged to produce only the principal facts of the subject, and few of the personal views. Additionally, few of the British soldiers and even fewer of the African soldiers appear to have been consulted, which is a terrible pity, as I know that many had vivid personal accounts to be told, and which are now probably lost. From personal knowledge, a number of the years from WWII onwards would have benefitted tremendously from such consultation - in 1996 I met an mzee from the Pare area southeast of Moshi who told me some of the tales from his days in Burma. Sadly, most of those men are now gone. It must be accepted that there will always be this sort of limitation on any Regimental history; they tend to be written by the most senior of figures involved, and are usually very glossy where glory is concerned, opaque where less honourable deeds and attitudes in their particular circles are concerned. A much larger and better-annotated photographic account must also surely have been available. Nevertheless, I wholeheartedly recommend this account to anyone interested in the history of East Africa as one which can be largely trusted, while contemporary revisionism in the region is increasingly distorting the truth of those years.

The Four Ships
Let me start off by saying that my father was in the wheelhouse of this ship HMS Amethyst April 20th during the Chinese civil war and was one of those who were seriously wounded. I find the book very interesting and a jolly good read.
If anyone would like to know more about the fourships, that is the Amethyst, Consort, London & Black Swan please visit my web site.
All of the men who died are listed as well as all of the men who were taken aboard the USS Repose AH16 Hospital Ship...

When my friend Jake told me this book had help him get through his High School basketball career, I just had to try it out, and scence Amazon has the best & biggest selection I know of basketball books, I had to check. Sure enough I found it and orderd it. I used this book for coaching my youth basketball team, my kids, and sometimes myself. Know I have tried dozens of books over the years but this one just stuck, because of it's superb step-by-step instructions, and illisrations. Howards End

A very accessible overview of what the critics have to say.
Malcolm Page's slender volume is a very accessible work. It moves around the various criticism that 'Howards End' has received over the years. Page's survey of the criticism is handled sensibly and is a very good starting point for wider reading about the author and his novel. His own critical voice is a very balanced one and Page adopts a reasonable stance on a writer who seems to attract fairly extreme reactions. Of particular note is the short section dealing with E.M.Forster and feminism. This section illustrates Page's ability to survey the criticism and then offer an informed opinion. Overall, this volume serves as a very useful starting point for a study of the novel.

If you love the Antique Roadshows ....
If you love PBS' "Antiques Roadshow", you're in for a treat. John Malcolm has written a series of Tim Simpson mysteries that delve intriguingly into the world of fine art acquisition. Modern English art history comes alive with the personalities and scandals we never hear about when viewing the art in a museum.

In "Into the Vortex", Tim Simpson is offered a Wyndham Lewis drawing by a mysterious foursome. As the foursome is whittled down one by one, first by apparently accidental and then decidedly murderous means, Tim confronts both an art history mystery and modern high finance. This book's plot is a bit tortured, making it a 4 rather than a five star Tim Simpson, but it is a very entertaining read none the less.

Protagonist Tim Simpson is a breath of fresh air as a knowledgeable buyer for White's Art Fund. Working for White's Bank, a most British merchant bank, Tim is based in London. Both he and White's have a South American past that often crops up in unexpected ways. A former "Cambridge Blue" rugby player, Tim has the ability to handle himself in a tough corner, an ability that he must call upon quite often in the cutthroat world of fine art collecting.

The Tim Simpson mysteries afford the opportunity to learn about the world of Whistler, Sargent, Lewis, Godwin, Rodin and many more, as well as their often intertwined and tangled lives and shared mistresses. The reader gets a look behind the scenes of auction houses and antiques dealers from junkmen to exclusive galleries. Along the way, the fortunes of a British Merchant Bank are intriguingly explored.

If you enjoy learning painlessly as you read for fun, then you will consume the Tim Simpson mysteries like popcorn. Fine Art, intrigue and high finance make for some very entertaining reading. Well written and well researched, this is a series well worth getting hooked on.
