Praying that really matters!
Boyd is a prayer genius. Contemporary, real, dynamic, heartfelt words capture the day to day dilemmas and situations we all face. In each prayer he speaks to Jesus, inviting Him into the situation, the difficulty, the uncertainty, the worldly problem. With a forward written by Lutheran historian, Martin E. Marty and an afterword by Lutheran Bishop, Paul Wennes of Southern California, who both give this prayer book high praise for addressing real conflicts, doubts, fightings and fears, I can not recommend this book strongly enough. "It's bumper to bumper, and the traffic is stalled" is my favorite prayer (page 10) or try "I am seated inside a theater" (page 50). What a powerful gift God has given us in the words of Malcolm Boyd who is still running with Jesus.

Very complete guide to golf in Scotland
I bought this book "on site" in Scotland in 2000. A really great book. I agree with the descriptions of the courses, at least the dozen of the I've played. A funny thing is that the chapter about scottish players, the players of the future does NOT include Paul Lawrie, who soon after the book was printed became the first Scot to win the Open for a long time. But despite that, the book is great. You will find all the inspiration you need here.

A Great review of the US Naval Operations in Korea
This is a long and great disection of all the US naval operations during the Korean War. It covers everything from the intial view of the Korean Pennuisla after WW2, the underrated mission of the anti-mine units, the Close air support during the Chosin Campagin, the Inchon Landings, and the Naval Jets Aces. This is a perfect companion to any other things on the Korean War on your bookshelf. This books can show the bigger picture as seen by the Navy during the Korean War. This book is a little dated since it was written just 2yrs after the war ened. It helps to fill in that void that all others cover in just passing. The authors also try to make a point in this book that the Navy and Marine Corps are a great team that can take on the world. This point isn't very subtle but should be understood that the at the time the Navy was in a losing battle with the USAF and the US Army for the all important dollar. If this doesn't detract from your enjoyment, then this is a great buy.

Secrets of Chess Tactics (Batsford Chess Library Middle Game)
Published in Paperback by Henry Holt (Paper) (March, 1993)
Authors: Mark Dvoretsky, Malcolm Gesthuysen, and M. I. Dvoretskii
Amazon base price: $23.00
Used price: $35.00
Average review score:

Deeply profound and useful
IM Dvoretsky was known as the Soviet Union's top trainer, and this very personal and honest work presents much of his rigorous thinking on chess tactics. This book does not believe in simple divisions and guidelines; there is much to read about subjects like creating confusion to make it difficult for an opponent to press an advantage, the blurred line between theatrics and soundness, etc.

An excellent, genuinely accessible introduction.
Through literary and philosophical texts, Malcolm Bull's Seeing Hidden Things: Apocalypse, Vision And Totality investigates the disquieting and fantastic phenomenon of hidden wisdom, knowledge, and information imbedded in the connections between vision and cognition and the widespread assumption that knowledge is a form of sight. From a Heideggerian viewpoint Bull demonstrates that there is no stage at which the totality may be seen and clearly identified. Rather, it is the restriction of view that is a prerequisite necessity for an object to be brought into sight, that is, for an object to be known. Seeing Things Hidden is a superbly written, scholarly study, a truly welcome and much appreciated contribution to philosophy, and an excellent introduction that is genuinely accessible to both students and non-specialist general readers.
