AN EXCELLENT GIFT BOOK
Part adventure part encyclopaedia,The Dragon Chronicles is an exciting and unusual book. It will be enjoyed as much for its narrative thrills as for richness of its illustrative detail.

The book appears to be a reproduction of an old journal that turned up for auction in a London sale room. It purports to be the diary journal of an old wizard, who to comply with the wishes of his dying king, sets off to find a group of malevolent dragons who are threatening the stability of the land.

The book looks and feels like something that has been lying in a vault, forgoten for centuries. The pages are like old vellum and there are dozens of brilliant coloured paintings and sketches of dragons, weapons and specimens, like dragon eggs that were supposedly produced by various artist who accompanied the wizard on his journey. There is even a dried pressed speciment of a dreaded "Dragnette" a kind of flying piranha!

Thoroughly enjoyable yarn for any age (why should kids have all the fun)

ther be dragons
This book is the diary of an ancient wizard, who lanched on a journey by request of his king on his deathebed. It is an exciting account of his encounters with the dragons. The design and layout of the book makes it appear is if it is an ancient book that has been recently unearthed. The cover looks like leather with metal hinges and locks. The pages are made to look like parchment, and the text looks like ancient hand written script. The artwork is colorful and stunning. There is much variety here in addition to the full page painntings of dragons, there are bluprints of ships and weapons, photos of ancient artifacts, and what appears to be fossilized baby dragon that has been imprinted on a page.

Very interesting storyline that draws you into the adventure. Highly reccommend!

The Dragon Chronicles
This is a fantastic book, you really are convinced that it is a copy of an actual journal writen centuries ago. All the pages are made to look like old parchment.
The story is of how an old loyal wizard is commanded by his dying king to seek and destroy a number of evil dragons that threaten the peace of the kingdom.
The colour pictures art great and ther are lots of interesting things sketched by the artists that the wizard took with him to record his quest.
It is a super looking book, all old and weathered like. It looks great on the shelf with my collection of dragon models.

Vampires..
This ia a nice graphic novel BUT do not bother giving it a read if you are the least bit squeamish or dislike vampires.

Batman bites biggest boogieman
This is the most thrilling Batman that I have seen yet. Compelling storyline that intrigues from the first pages. Can't wait to pick up the Bloodstorm followup title.

Ultimate Sacrifice
This book is the start of a three-part descent into hell and oblivion, with much angst and pathos (and blood) along the way. While the last installment, "Crimson Mist" (think "Alien 3" as far as depressing goes), wraps this up pretty well, "Red Rain" and "Bloodstorm" are my personal favorites.

"Red Rain" sets up the storyline, bringing the Dark Knight from his usual stomping grounds (and reality) into a world where, (to quote "Bloodstorm"), deduction has become meaningless, for the rules are now random. This book focuses on the sacrifices of Bruce Wayne for his beloved Gotham City. [The second book focuses on the Batman's sacrifices for Gotham, and the third book focuses on the sacrifices of those who love Batman for the sake of Gotham].

Some complain this book is boring; I disagree. Since we are at the beginning of the trilogy, Batman is all cool calm and control, even with those bat-wings and eventually fangs. It is the beginning of Batman becoming his own namesake, a true "Bat-man" who is the ultimate nightmare form of the Dark Knight ...incarnate. We get to watch him be stripped of his cool calm, his reason and deduction, his belief in "how the world is," his house, wealth, fortune, life, and even his humanity ...yet he continues the fight, altered as he is, holding fast to his ideals even as he continues to become something he doesn't recognize anymore.

Tell me that Batman doesn't seem like a man pretending to be a creature of the night, a vampire who doesn't kill. Well here, he becomes what he pretends to be. Onward to the second book to determine what happens when we become what we have so long pretended to be!

By Any Means Necessary

Profile of a Racist Icon
This book does not deserve any stars, not due to its technical profficiency as the book is well written.
However this work does nothing to condemn the racist, anti-white attitude taken by the subject, or the subjects links with international black supremacist regimes and terrorist organisations.
Those who fail to condemn racism, including black racism, are condoning it - the author has therefore taken the moral low ground.

Malcolm X, By any means necessary
The novel Malcolm X: By Any Means Necessary is a well written description of Malcolm's entire life including his troubles and his triumphs. The book is basically broken down into four stages of Malcolm's life. The first part of the book tells about Malcolm as a child, and all of his problems that his family encountered. The second part of the books talks about Malcolm as a teenager when he learned the streets and was often getting himself into trouble. The third part of the book describes Malcolm's interest in the Nation of Islam and his ability to influence other people. The final part of the book tells about Malcolm becoming a true Muslim and his split from the Nation of Islam. In the book Malcolm X proves to be a convincing hero because he has the will to lead others, his courage to spread his word and he searches for the best life could offer.
Malcolm had an amazing power to lead people and have influence over people. Malcolm's leadership is evident throughout a large chunk of the novel. When Malcolm became a member of the Nation of Islam he was made a minister. As a minister Malcolm was able to preach in all of the temples involved in the Nation of Islam. Malcolm spread the message of the Nation of Islam to everyone he preached to. All of Malcolm's preaching was influencing many people and more and more African-Americans started to join the Nation of Islam. Malcolm had a "genius for reaching places in the African-American soul." (pg.88) His keen sense of leadership and influence made him a very powerful person in the United States. Later in the biography Malcolm has a split from the Nation of Islam and decides to become a true Muslim. Malcolm now had a new message to preach and a new reason to lead people. Malcolm then formed the Organization of Afro-American Unity. Because of Malcolm's split from the Nation of Islam and his uncanny ability to lead people, Malcolm was a powerful man.
Throughout the book Malcolm shows signs of his courage which leads him to become a hero for everyone and a powerful leader. During Malcolm's time in jail after his ruff teenage years, Malcolm realized that he wanted to be a part of the Nation of Islam. He not only wanted to be a part of it he wanted to devote his whole heart to the Nation of Islam. Most African-Americans during this time were poor and led lives that weren't going anywhere. Malcolm saw this and he wanted to change it. Malcolm went above and beyond most blacks and started to teach blacks the message of the Nation of Islam. Malcolm was able to get many African-Americans to join the Nation of Islam and helped them realize that there was something in life to live for. Because of Malcolm's willingness to help the African-American race and his courageousness to be a minister in the Nation of Islam, Malcolm would be a hero to all African-Americans. Malcolm also shows courage when he splits from the Nation of Islam. Malcolm was living a fine life and was doing what he wanted to do when he split from the Nation of Islam. Malcolm decided that he wanted something more, and that he wanted to be a true Muslim. After he became a true Muslim he continued to preach to the African-American community and led his people with the same dignity as he did within the Nation of Islam. Malcolm had enough courage to leave the Nation of Islam because he wanted to find something more in his life. His courageousness in this example leads him to finding the truth and explaining what is right.
Malcolm's search for what was best in his life was another example in the novel, which makes Malcolm a clear hero. There are two main examples of this. First, Malcolm wants to change his criminal ways as a teenager and become involved religiously in the Nation of Islam. Malcolm becomes the main minister and he builds many temples throughout the eastern part of the U.S. to spread the message of the Nation of Islam. Because of Malcolm's strong leadership he is able to recruit many African-Americans to join the Nation of Islam. Malcolm's search for a better life makes Malcolm a powerful and strong individual. Another example of why Malcolm's search for a better life makes him a hero is when he splits from the Nation of Islam. As Malcolm preached within the Nation of Islam, his ideas were becoming different than that of its founder, Elijah Muhammad. Because Malcolm's ideas are much different than the original ideas of the Nation of Islam, Malcolm decides to become a true Muslim. Malcolm makes the trip to Africa and takes the pilgrimage to Mecca. Malcolm becomes a real Muslim and is able to find a better life. Malcolm begins to preach his new message and gains respect from many African-Americans. Malcolm's becoming of a true Muslim shows that Malcolm wants to find the truth in life and that he wants the best for all African-American people.
Malcolm X was indeed a great person and a hero to everyone he influenced. Malcolm was a powerful leader. He preached with the Nation of Islam and later with his own organization the Organization of Afro-American Unity. Malcolm was a courageous person because he was able to help blacks when they thought that nothing was left for them. Lastly Malcolm was someone who was always looking for a better life. He received a new life after his years in prison and also received a new life when he split from the Nation of Islam. All of Malcolm's characteristics are well depicted in this biography and show how great and heroic of a person Malcolm X really was.

Revolutionary Strategy Applicable Today
By Any Means Necessary consists of lectures (including responses to audience questions) as well as interviews by reporters both hostile and friendly.

Malcom's revolutionary strategy for confronting and overcoming the oppression of African-Americans in the 1960s is applicable today for the working class and oppressed people everywhere.

The Judas Factor: The Plot to Kill Malcolm X

Definately a good read
THE JUDAS FACTOR is a good read. Especially with regards to Malcolm's international work during the last year of his life, when he was trying to unite non-white nations in bringing the United States up on human rights violations to the U.N. Evanzz's assasination theory just amounts to a good guess, but it is certainly interesting, and certainly quite plausible. I have seen one FBI document, in the book THE COINTELPRO PAPERS, in which the FBI clearly takes credit for causing the rift between Malcolm X and Elijah Muhammad. In his Autobiography, Malcolm talks about FBI infiltration in the NOI, then later, he talks of false rumors being spread within the higher cirlces of the NOI that Malcolm was planning to take over-- exactly the kind of thing COINTELPRO provocateurs would have been proud of. So, it's quite possible that the FBI had infiltrators in the higher circles of the NOI who could have instigated the assasination plot.

Good Read
Very interesting perspective on Malcolm X's assassination. Karl Evanzz provides (for the most part) an objective portrait of Malcolm, his followers and his enemies. The author creates a very logical connection in establishing a conspiracy theory about the assassination (then again, every conspiracy book is logical in a way even the outrageous ones). I would recommend this book to readers who want to be challenged and want to stop and think.

BRILLIANT
I read anything about Malcolm X I can get my hands on; he still lives in my heart. This book is extremely well written w/a broad scope. This one will never leave my library. A must.

Not enough information
This is just a list of 1,000+ questions about a limited number of horror movies, with answers on the next page. I guess you're supposed to ask them at parties or something for "hours of fun." The questions are certainly trivial -- eliciting a response of "who cares" rather than "isn't that fascinating" -- and it is tedious to constantly turn to the next page to find the answers. It felt a good deal like reviewing for a 5th grade geography test.

Thousands of facts are available, but many are perfectly useless and utterly dull, so why devote a book to them? If the goal of this book is to spark interest in the films or in the horror genre, it has utterly failed. My copy is going into the garbage.

There's NOTHING trivial about this horror trivia book...
This is a delightful book chock-full of valuable information and fun trivia questions about a multitude of horror movies and stars...You'll take great pride in the questions you answer correctly...and you'll learn much from the ones you miss!

If you love the horror genre as much as I do, then by all means BUY THIS BOOK...it will be a treasure in your library for many years to come. We can only hope for a sequel and /or another book by these wonderful authors sometime in the future.

A must for all lovers of the horror genre!
This book is a wonderful addition for anyone's library. It's interesting, fun and informative. Bravo to the authors for such a great work. Highly recommended!

the book was very touching.it made feel as if iwas far away from God, and it made me realize how far my relationship with God really was, and i'm just glad that Malcolm Potts and Roger Short brought me back to reality...

Ever Since Adam and Eve
This book is a MUST for anyone who considers themselves an unbiassed thinker. If only there were a text like this when I was in college. It will appeal to anyone interested in anthropology, sociology and/or zoology. You don't have to agree with the arguments of the authors as they are the flavour enhancers of the proverbial "food for thought". The beauty of this book is it's personal affect of invading your waking and sleeping hours with questions. Wonderfully stimulating, the best thing I have read in AGES. What a legacy.

A great Outlook on sexual inhabitions and what drives them!
This book was written by my uncle who has always been an inspiration in my life. This book is just another extension of his Greatness! Malcolm Potts takes his work very seriously. I know that this book will and has already made changes in my life as far as human sexuality goes. It will make me take my sexual desires and actions to a new and much safer level.

The Only Ekg Book You'll Ever Need
Published in Paperback by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Publishers (May, 1988)
Author: Malcolm S. Thaler
Amazon base price: $29.95
Used price: $18.99
Average review score:

The title doesn't lie!
A colleague recommended this book to me after I lamented that Dubin's competing text was amusing and easy to understand, but didn't really foster any permanent functional understanding of EKGs. Like Dubin's text, Thaler's EKG Book takes a leisurely approach to deconstructing the EKG. However, Thaler's text is a much more functional guide, offering better explanations in a more comprehensive approach to interpreting EKGs. Thaler's text works not only because it is easy to understand, but also because it provides more clinical scenarios, and has a more complete discussion of a wide variety of abnormal EKGs. This book is far superior to Dubin's. Highly recommended.

The title says it all
As a resident with many years of medical training behind me, I've used my share of ECG textbooks. The two best books for the beginner medical student/intern to use when learning the ECG are Thaler's book (this one) and Dubin's Rapid Interpretation. Both explain the EKG very well, but in my opinion the clarity and simplicity of the physiological and EKG explanations in Thaler's book are unsurpassed.

Despite being a rather slim volume, it is remarkably comprehensive. There is even a chapter towards the end on rare, non cardiac diseases with EKG manifestations. With due respect, the reviewer who said Thaler's book lacks sufficient information doesn't have a clue. Its really very complete, for everyone except Cardiologists and Cardiac fellows, who will definitely prefer Marriot's.

For everyone else, The Only Ekg Book You'll Ever Need is the only Ekg book you'll ever need.

GREAT INTRODUCTION TO EKG'S
This book was awesome!! I started with Dubin's, which was okay, but it just wasn't giving me the basics. This book was very helpful in understanding the basics of EKG's and really helped me on my exams. Easy to read- I read a few chapters between study sessions and I found it is a great reference book to supplement classes.

Do not get this translation!
I feel that this is a horrible translation of an otherwise great work of literature. This translator felt the need to re-arrange pieces of Aristotle's work, and completely relocate some to an "Appendix." If you find this appalling, then you need to find another translation. However, if you are fine with the butchering of another person's work, by all means, order this book.

The earliest textbook for dramatists
The "Poetics" contains Aristotle's observations on what elements and characteristics comprised the best tragedies based on the ones he'd presumably seen or read. He divides "poetry," which could be defined as imitations of human experience, into tragedy, comedy, and epic, and explains the differences between these forms, although comedy is not covered in detail and tragedy gets the most treatment. For one thing, tragedy, he states, seeks to imitate the matters of superior people, while comedy seeks to imitate the matters of inferior people.

To Aristotle, the most important constituent of tragedy is plot, and successful plots require that the sequence of events be necessary (required to happen to advance the story logically and rationally) and probable (likely to happen given the circumstances). Any plot that does not feature such a necessary and probable sequence of events is deemed faulty. Reversals and recognitions are plot devices by which tragedy sways emotions, particularly those that induce "pity and fear," as is astonishment, which is the effect produced when the unexpected happens. He discusses the best kinds of tragic plots, the kinds of characters that are required, and how their fortunes should change over the course of the plot for optimum tragic effect.

With regard to poetic language or "diction," he emphasizes the importance of figurative language (metaphor, analogy) in poetry and the importance of balancing figurative with literal language. It is his opinion that metaphoric invention is a natural ability and not something that can be taught. Of all the poets Aristotle mentions who exemplify the ideals proposed in the "Poetics," Homer draws the most praise.

Malcolm Heath's introduction in the Penguin Classics edition offers some helpful and amusing clarification and commentary on the "Poetics," including a demonstration of the Aristotelian method of constructing a tragedy using the story of Oedipus as an example. A work that is scant in volume but rich in ideas, the "Poetics" demands to be read by all those interested in ancient thought on literature.

A Classical masterpiece!
Aristotle's Poetics is hailed as the first systematic critical theory in the world. For centuries and centuries, it has inspired writers, critics, and philosophers alike. Aristotle, the father of critics, as many would exalt him, sets the rules for many key literary genres such as Tragedy, Comedy, and Epic. Through comparing and contrasting these classical genres, Aristotle convincingly argues for the highness and greatness of tragedy, as the most mimetic literary genre. Thanks to Aristotle, we are introduced to such eternally important critical terms such as mimesis(imitation), muthos(plot), anagnorisis(discovery), peripeteia(reversal),hamartia(misjudgment), catharsis(purgation). In other words, Aristotle's Poetics is the bible for critics, playwrights, and fans of tragic literature.

would prefer more gloves than mittens
Have not knitted any of the patterns in this book, because I'm waiting for the weather to get colder here in California. Seems like a nice introduction to the construction and techniques, though.

Disappointed
I think the book is overpriced for the content and originality it contains. I have many others I will use before I use this one. It is a slick presentation, but to my mind, not a good value for the price.

Nice book with ugly, ugly cover
What were they thinking with the hideous oven mits on the cover? Ugh! Don't let that scare you away, though. There are quite a few nice little patterns in this book. Patterns use straight and DPN needles and range from beginner to intermediate. The photo's are nice and instructions pretty good. I think it's a nice collection & a sweet little book to stuff in your bag and go at 7 1/4 inches tall.
