Dream away in you're lazy chair
Many fishermen never see another stream then the one in their backyard. And those who are so fortunate to find there, an excellent river to fish in, have very little reason to look further. But what beautiful places you can find, all over the world. Maybe to expensive to go there for real, but with this book you can dream away to all corners of the world. You will never be tired of this book, so keep it at hand. And if you can afford it, the information given will lead you to the best places where big fish are waiting. Great pictures, great information about the quarry and appetizing discriptions of the places you never dreamed of, but certainly are wanting to go to, after reading this book.

A great guide for all levels of climbers
I've only been climbing for a month, and this book has taught me so much. It has great color pictures that make it very easy to understand all the climbing jargon that I was quickly confused by at the gym. This book covers what equipment you'll need for different types of climbing, clothing, saftey precautions, indoor, outdoor, bouldering, locations for good climbing, and lots more. There isn't a better book on the market for climbers.

Reliable Indian Defence
Published in 1992, this almost 300 page volume includes 12 seperate chapters. In this variation, the Queen's Bishop is fianchetto'd instead of the King's Bishop. 1.d4 Nf6, 2.c4 e6, 3.Nf3 b6 is the starting order. If White chooses 3.Nc3 then you need to give the Nimzo-Indian defence a look (3...Bb4). The only problem is that White has the choice of which Knight to bring out on Move 3, so you really need to learn both the Queen's Indian and the Nimzo-Indian defences if you aren't going to be using the King's Indian, Grunfeld or Benoni defences or the Benko Gambit. Transpositions are very common in these lines. This is definately one of the best books on the subject of the Queen's Indian.

Constitutional Development in Alabama 1798-1901: A Study in Politics, the Negro and Sectionalism (The James Sprunt Studies in History and Political Science, V. 37.)

The Authoritative Study Of Alabama's Six Constitutions
This work should be in the personal library of every student of Alabama history, as well as every attorney and law student. First published in 1955, Auburn University History Professor Malcolm C. McMillan's study of the genesis of Alabama's six constitutions is the authoritative book on this subject. The late Dr. McMillan was known for his devotion to research, and this book is evidence of that trait. Dr. McMillan traces the roots which brought about the constitutional conventions which framed Alabama's constitutions, then takes the reader "inside" the conventions, with their various factions, to explore how and why each of these constitutions was finalized. In the process, he details every step with annotations which not only lend credence to his narrative, but serve as rich sources for those wishing to conduct further research into the subject. The cohesion of each chapter of the book is artfully accomplished. The result is a monumental work on the constitutions, each a reaction to its predecessor. Thus, in order to fully comprehend the Constitution of 1901, one must study the Constitution of 1875, which was not only used as the "working document" for the 1901 instrument, but was a refinement and extension of it. Further, in order to understand the 1875 instrument, one must have a firm grounding in the 1868 constitution, the conditions which brought it forth and the wholesale revulsion toward it by the Bourbon Democrats who framed the 1875 document. In essence, the genesis of Alabama's six constitutions are Alabama history itself - an interlocking chain of events, each consequent to the other and none fully comprehensive in and of itself. Dr. McMillan renders the most lucid and reliable explanation of the creation and subsequent recreations of Alabama's organic law. This reviewer offers his highest recommendation of this book, and offers a belated thank you to Dr. McMillan for this gift to Alabama historians.

Conversion : a spiritual journey
Published in Unknown Binding by Collins ()

A frank description of the journey to faith
I love this book. Muggeridge has produced a Christian masterpiece. It follows Muggeridge's life from his early years through doubt to a deeply held faith in Roman Catholicism. Along the way he frankly describes the time in his life he met with near dispair which contrasts strongly with his wonderfully described encounter with Mother Theresa. This is moving, honest and very spiritual writing. This book is a very old friend of mine.

Entertaining.
One of the clerks in a used bookstore I frequent recommended it and I'm glad she did. It's a wonderful story with characters that are bright and likeable. Best of all, the dialog is witty. It is everything a Regency romance should be.

Memories of Moscow, 1903
Imagine time-traveling with a smart gentleman who is energetic, enthusiastic, sociable, and just happened to have lived there 'then.' This is the seamless, appropriately elaborate, and richly detailed adventure one experiences in reading this book. Troyat called this book a mere "sentimental promenade,' but he was much too modest. Biographer of Flaubert, Tolstoy, Chekhov, Elizabeth I and others, he had a pre-Revolutionary Russian early childhood, and the recollections of his (refugees-to-France) family members. In this book he enthusiastically and carefully recreates the sights, sounds, smells of daily life. The peasantry, workers and their everpresent sufferings and struggles, commerce, law, food, the gentry, the tsar and his retinue, social life, the hapless serfs, plus plans, hopes, and dreams. The chapter "Moscow's Many Faces" is reminiscence, and very informative. The research is the backbone of this work, which is greatly enriched and informed by Troyat's emotional ties to -- and sensory recall of -- the time and place.

Reveals the roots of Satanism and its practices
There have been plenty of titles on witchcraft and spirituality but relatively few on modern demonology: Demons Of The Modern World examines the spiritual and psychological ramifications of demonology, considering interplays between belief systems and psychology and considering the history and culture of beliefs in supernatural forces. Chapters focus on Western civilization as they reveal the roots of Satanism and its practices.

Dersu the Trapper (Recovered Classics)
Published in Hardcover by Small Press Distribution (October, 1996)
Authors: V.K. Arseniev, Malcolm Burr, Jaimy Gordon, V. K. Arsenev, and V. K. Arsen'ev
Amazon base price: $25.00
Average review score:

It is a book bespeaking of love towards nature.
Through knowledge based on survival interest, but also on in-depth curiosity, Arseniev offers a narrative monument of love towards nature. His true friendship with Dersu Uzala, the native trapper, opens to us the misteries of the Taiga, and the harmonic rules of nature, on which the role of man has also a place. The style is narrative, straight forward, without artificiality, a little cold, but leaves a vivid impression on the reader through the amazing world that effectively describes. Highly recommended book for nature lovers.
