Good Book for All Levels of Experience
I've found this to be one of the better books on the subject. The book is beautifully resented and the content is very accessible to the modern reader. The analysis based in this book appears to be entirely consistent with my own 20+ yrs. experience in cheirology.

The book's computer-generated hands are a nice innovation that provide clarification for unusual markings. Also, I found the addition of two new mounts of the palm (Neptune, and Pluto) to be very intriguing -- I only wish that the authors could have elaborated further on this topic.

All in all, a good, solid book that is an enjoyable read.

What a fun series!
Malcolm Shuman continues to amaze me. Mr. Shuman's latest entry into his Dr. Alan Graham mystery series is another winner. I like the way that Mr. Shuman intertwines legends/rumors into a modern murder mystery. In this installment, the author uses the legend of Jim Bowie and that big knife he carried to the Alamo. I learned several facts about Jim Bowie during a very enjoyable read. I've always been a history buff, so this series is extra fun for me. You don't have to be into history to enjoy Past Dying or any of Mr. Shuman's other books. His characters are fun, Alan and Penny (who is back from her Mexico trip) are very likable, and sometimes you want to smack them for behaving like children. This is the way of new relationships; sometimes they are a bit rocky. That makes these characters more believable and human. Past Dying has all the elements of a good fun mystery. Take a little time out to enjoy this new mystery series. I think you'll like it. I look forward to more installments in this series. I'm sure that Mr. Shuman will have another fun and entertaining one coming soon. He has a wealth of events to pick from in the Baton Rouge area and Louisiana. Thank you Mr. Shuman for a very fun read.

An excellent textbook for undergraduate students
I find this book excellent for those undergraduate students taking petrology and petrography courses. The way the chapters are organized, follows an scheme that goes beyond the typical three-fold classification of rocks and the information is presented in an attractive, friendly fashion.

The first four parts of the book give the reader the basics for the description and interpretation of rock forming processes, with lots of useful drawings and excellent pictures. These are the keys to the understanding of any of the remainder chapters.

Some of the sections from the first four parts deserve to be highlited. The whole section about optical mineralogy is excellent and goes right to the essentials. The chapter referring to the physical attributes of rocks is very useful; the chapter on textural interpretation is very interesting and gives the reader a new perspective of petrographic analysis.

The remainig of the book deals with all rock types describing the processes that give rise to them and always emphasizing the textural features of each rock type and the imprints of every process.

Examples in thin section are abundant throughout the book, as well as sketches and drawings. Field examples are few but descriptive.

A final word. This book describes the processes but does not put them into a plate tectonic context, and does not give the reader a lot of experimental geochemical data. And it's not intended to do that. However, using this book as the basis to go further, or side-by-side with any text which deals with rocks in a tectonic framework, will provide the reader with a better understanding of the rock-forming processes and of geology itself.

This is Fun history
This diary removes the dust from the personalities of giants of Oregon history. Deady was founder of the U of Oregon, a federal district court judge for almost forty years, and a regent of Stanford University. He should have been a stuffed shirt; but this diary mnakes it clear that in his prosperous years he retained the affable social skills he had acquired as a blacksmith, newspaper salesman and small town lawyer and politician. He comments on the personalities and foibles of all around him, and he was surrounded by the people who shaped Oregon. This is a very enjoyable read, and Malcolm Clark's footnotes and chapter notes do an excellent job of providing context. Reading this has prompted me to seek out more information about Deady and his companions.

Many of the international students that we work with in the area of ESL have a hard time understanding why certain words fit together. This book begins to unlock key phrases and how they were formed to allow our international friends success with English. This book would be interesting for almost anyone. The teachers who work with this population daily to the workplace managers could begin to empower their collegues and students by helping them understand the content of this book for them. Great job.

on mysteries for young adults
I have read this lovely book several times. It is fresh and exciting everytime. I like the main characters very much. . .Amanda Hart shines in this series. She is poised and sure of herself except when Michael Soul is around. The team and their pespective friends make the story become alive. With the story lines you don't know what to expect but can't wait to find out. I loved the series, I wished the series never ended. The story here is where Amanda finds a mystery when she goes to help out a friend in the local community theater. The subsequent events lead Mandy & Mickey thru some hair-raising events til they find out who & what is behind all the mishaps. This series would have made a wonderful television series, but what do I know? I know an excellent book when I read it! I defintely recommend this to anyone who likes a good quick read, the book isn't very long so it's a joy to re-read them over and over. And to the authors (the husband & wife team) thank you for these good stories. I wish you made more!!
